rip bro...when times got tough in life,..I always thought of peter breck (Nick) his character on Big Valley...he was a hero of mine,...and it always motivated me to keep trying to push harder and overcome obstacles
LOVE this...My little Kylah, she does not like Big valley, or Wild West ! Why ? Cowboys shouldn't wear tights/slacks with no pockets. AND their hats shouldn't be worn like they have to be bobby pinned on. makes my heart swell.
@daletwin1 Hello! Thank you for your comment! Yes, that is the story and I'm glad someone else posted the whole episode (as I have no longer have the time to post videos). I posted this one merely to show how handsome Nick and Heath were, but a few people wanted to see the whole episode. Isn't it nice to know they still have fans out there who love them as we do?!!
Thanks for posting this. Too bad, though, that you didn't show the opening scene where Audra uses her little whip! I had forgotten what a little princess Audra could be . . .
@dancinkindofguy - Barbara Stanwick (the mom made Nick and the Brawler shake hands). They set off on a mission (very funny) to find the con-artists who sold their land illegally. They found them and at the end, Nick softened up and the family gave the family (squatters) another portion of their land, for a penny (I think that's what I remember). And the family vowed to pay when they started making money off the land. It was a really good episode.
@armida767 I think you got two episode mixed up. There was no mention of price for the land that Nick gave them. The penny was the rent that Nick charged his friend Mariano Montoya for the land he needed to feed his cattle before he sold them. I believe the episode was How to Kill A Killer. Matin Landau played Mariano and in the episode his cattle contracted Anthrax and Eugene's school teacher had the vaccination to cure them.
@armida767 The whole episode is posted on youtube now. You remembered the story quite accurately, a side story is the relationship between Heath and a pretty, young irish woman. There's also a big fist fight fight between Nick and the leader of the people who were conned. It's a comical fight and they play off the issues between the Irish and the English. The name of the episode is: THE BRAWLERS. It was always one of my favorite episodes.
@dancinkindofguy that guy nick was fighting with is claude akins. as a kid, i used to watch him on a show called "movin' on" in 1974 where he played a trucker. then another show in 1979 where he played a corrupt sherriff who constantly harrassed a trucker. that one was "bj and the bear". he later had starred in a spin-off called the "misadventures of sherriff lobo". nicvk was my favorite of the 3 brothers.
@GDCTT Akins goes way back..saw him on a "I love Lucy" episode. He played the minister on one of my favorite movies called "Inherit the Wind" based on the Scopes or "Monkey" trial with Spencer Tracy and Frederick March. He played a lot of "heavies" too.
Ol Nick was quite the brawler. he beat up and shot up a lot of guys on BV. Jarrod was the smooth one and Heath the quiet one, and Audra was just hot!
I am really enjoying watching these old episodes. I love all of the characters but my favorite by far is NIck!!! I love the way he rides a horse. You just can't fake that. Thank you Peter Breck for bringing this character to life!!!
@beloit22 - Hi Beloit! I'm sorry I haven't been able to post new videos due to not having much time (working full-time), and recently I've been ill. I don't think I remember which software I used. It was a 30 day trial. But as soon as I find the time (and the strength, I will try and post more episodes). These DVDs (first and second) seasons, was on sale at Frys Electronics the last time I was there for 12.00. I remember thinking I got ripped off cause I paid about 25.00 with Amazon.
I loved this show too. One of the best on TV with one exception. At times, I thought the characters were too overly physically effectionate with one another…just too touchy touchy for a family…kinda creepy to me…almost on the verge of looking incestuous, especially jarrod...he would kiss his mother and sister on the mouth or near the mouth way too much....ew.
16 seconds ago I remember everyone liked Bonanza and i liked the Big Valley better. i was a little kid and thought Heath was the coolest guy in the world. did any of you know that he ( Lee Majors) beat out Burt Reynolds for this part? i heard that before
Sir(s): If I may, at this Date and Time, state here how Youngmen as Brothers must understand carefully the reason when a Younglady, and especially "their little Sister,'" wants to keep Her Honor clean by shooting something or someone. Killenny Farms must have once been a fine old place for it had some very fast Privatization in the West. Thank you. Have a Nice Day. Godspeed.
I remember watching this show every Saturday afternoon. The Big Valley was just awesome! Of course, I wasn't Nick's biggest fan, but in my older age I've mellowed! lol Originally, the producers had Barbara Stanwyck was to wear 4 different outfits in each show and Linda Evans would have one different outfit, but Barbara said to allow Linda to wear two different outfits to her three outfits.
@Lisica2008 If you say so, but I disagree. Not to say that I don't love Nick's outspoken personality. It kind of reminds me of myself. I still say Heath's strong silent type is so sexy. And of course Jarrod is the definition of class and suave sofistication. The Barkley brothers all have the best qualitities a girl could aske for.
@lmx370 Ah, yes, the immortal question: Which Barkley brother was the most delectable? You're right--collectively they all possessed the qualities any girl could want.
There was one episode where Nick took on a boxer in the ring. Can't recall the title. But this guy had some health issues in his head, like a tumor or something. Anyway, Nick landed a punch, but it was really a lucky one because the guy wasn't in full health, though he didn't know it yet. And later in the episode you can see that this is one guy Nick would not be able to take. And the guy seemed to be twice the hothead Nick was. Great show!
I can remember a fight between William Shatner and Ricardo Montalban on the Space Seed episode of Star Trek. Up close you can see its the two actors, but when they pull away it is clearly two stunt men. The guy doubling for Shatner has darker hair and Montalbans double doesnt have the limp the actor had.
Anyway, I loved watching Nick mix it up. What is the name of the episode with the hotel fight?
one of the best western series of all time, but can someone explain to me what happened between nick and heath, in the first few episodes of the show nick was very hostile towards heath and as the series grew heath became closer to nick tan jarrod,
Great fight at the end of this episode between Nick and guest star Claude Akins. The closest anyone came to taking Nick. Another fan of the show said there was a rule that no one could beat Nick in a fight. Thanks for posting.
Was it a sucker punch? All the Barkley brothers could fight. I could see Nick getting knocked out by Jarrod if he was suprised. Jarrod was no slouch either.
As a California native, I love The Big Valley. Not only was it well written & well acted, but it was one of the few westerns set near where I live! California (and Oregon and Washington, for that matter) are about as far "west" as you can get here in the U.S., but despite the fact that most westerns are shot here (and Arizona), with the exception of The Big Valley, most of them aren't set here!
I hope somebody posts "The Price of Victory" here soon (my favorite "Big Valley" episode.)
Yes...in an interview, Lee said they came to an agreement...basically, she was the boss on the set! They worked through their issues and he had great respect for her.
In fact, Lee continued being friends with her until Barbara's death in 1990. I received a note and said Lee has heard of his mentor's death --- Lee was under Barbara's wing.
I don't think too many 19th century women wore trousers, and certainly not ones that emphasized quite as much, ahem, "dignity" as Linda Evans' pants do here.
I agree with you 150%!!! Richard Long is very handsome too! I just watched the one where he had amnesia and didn't realize he was such a good actor too!
Oh what memories! Peter Breck is a man's man! A man who exemplifies masculine qualities. How I dreamed of riding on his horse back in those days. Thank you for posting!
Remember watching this show as a little girl and Peter Breck's character did standout...he seemed to be perpetually angry all the time!

I'm having a great deal of difficulty locating an audio clip of the ACTUAL quote "...Nick, Heath, Jarrod-- There's a fire in the barn!"
