  • She's not being a brat, she's just trying to make herself, and everyone else, comfortable. She was making suggestions.

Katharine Hepburn was an amazing woman that was very strong with her convictions and expressed her thoughts. I love her because I identify with her and her personality.

I've always, in a way, connected her with Bette Davis, but they're different people for sure.

  • 8, 6 , 5 ,1 = Lesbian

  • God,I love old Hollywood! They are so unpretentious and yet, real. The combination is regal. They new how to be Stars.

  • @sweet161402

I'm sorry, did you type UNpretentious? Are you watching the same thing we are?

  • NOOOOoooohh-boody answers in this business!!

  • I mean I can understand her, she's had a long day, she hasn't eaten, she's barely got any wiggle room in her busy schedule just for this interview...can't a bro get a decent color carpet and a sturdy table so she can spread her tired legs out and let's her testicles drop...its been a long day...

  • She's not being a prima donna or anything, look she lifts the table herself...!

  • i completely understant her...

to get there where she was she had to do her best

she had all rights to expect from the ppl to do their best too...

and who ever done that set was a bloody dilettante!

  • Never cared for heart all. Why on earth do people believe that she was so wonderful?

  • @SenorZorrozzz Because she a pioneer for women, and the idea that they could be more than just housewives, or be content in being meek.

  • @Laurencia7 Yeah, that's what you've been taught. How about she was a rich spolied brat all of her life?

  • @Laurencia7 Yeah, that's what you've been taught. How about she was a rich spolied brat all of her life?

  • ffff.... not oliver, oscar

  • Hahahaha... reminds me of Oliver Wilde's last words.

  • Her celebrity affords her this outrageous behaviour. let me see one of us try that at work at see how long we last.....doesnt matter that she is gone...stupid petty demanding behaviour because she can get away with it-and nothing more.

  • @mooch9668 No I'm sorry it doesn't jut because one has worked for a long time and is famous shouldn't prevent him/her to be graceful and polite, in fact that is the mark of a real class. The real prob is that these people are always surrounded by mignons who can't say no!! they acting like puppies. Celebrating, when acting like that need someone to tell them to fuck right off and believe me they will ask for more!!!

  • @MrChinesecrested HAS BEEN? Are you CRAZY? She will NEVER be a "has been"! Check out later Cavett interviews and see that he changed that set! BECAUSE MS. HEPBURN SAID "PAINT IT BROWN". Check the Bette Davis interview.

  • I absolutely adore this woman. She's real.

  • @itsjulibeesh A real pain in the ass..lol.

  • You never got Katherine Hepburn? What planet are you on?

  • i love this woman

  • Comment removed

  • Pragmatic and breakin balls..

  • She is a guest on that show so she has a right to be uncomfortable.. fuck off haters!

  • @MrChinesecrested WHE'S INAPPROPRIATE AND OBNOXIOUS HERE.

  • I know everyone is saying that she is a bitch in this interview but she was just a very blunt person. She knew what she wanted. I admire that.

  • Ech. I remember when she was around, doing stuff like this. My mother and I used to wonder what her problem was, was she trying to be a man? So unattractive, the "butch" thing; she really overstated her feminism. One can be a feminist and still be gracious and poised. With her background, she certainly knew better.

  • Katherine DID come from an elite family, so she did have her views on taste. I can here her father speaking when she complains about the rugs! XD But, she also had a different sense of humor. She's not wholly serious here. "Stars" today behave worse, and they want to be PAID to be interviewed now. Those are the REAL cunts!

  • what year was this?

  • spoilt diva brat

  • Woww - she really dressed up in order to meet her fans!! Slacks is her trademark - OK - but, where is the wonderfull, beautifull Lady I love?? I only hear a lot of bitching, nagging - what happened to the Lady I admired?? It is OK that she is gone, cause so is my illusions about her.... Sorry Katherine, this is too low..

  • @Pukkie11000 Oh, don't say that! Katherine was amazing. You shouldn't be disappointed. I think she was a lady no matter how many bitching she did. See, I think this crude strong personality was her style and everybody understood it. One of the reasons why she always stood in the top was because of it. She wouldn't be Katherine Hepburn if else.

  • Yikes

  • She did not get where she got by being nice. I love her.

  • Nooo-body answers in this business!! What an old lady.

  • Wow. Completely unscripted movie star moment. In my opinion, those movie star women of that era were so marginalized by men, they probably felt they had to overcompensate to be taken seriously. She was probably feeling insecure in her power of the moment, and was being bossy to show who was in control. This woman was WAY before her time I Wonder what these type A women could have accomplished in their time had they been encouraged instead of reprimanded for their strength and intelligence?

  • She tells you what she thinks doesn't she? I still have to believe she was gay. No offense intended, but she was such a tomboy butch.

  • @1111cedargrove But she's right that set and THAT carpet are both butt ugly.

  • @johnyzero2000 It was the 70s. It was considered fashionable back then...

  • Anyone know where her accent is from?

  • @rjagyeah New England.

  • @Mike6E It's considered a Bryn Mawr accent which is where she went to college. She's from Hartford and so am I and nobody here talks like that.

  • @rjagyeah It's considered to be a Bryn Mawr accent which is where she went to college. Sources will always say she has the quintessential Connecticut or New England accent. I'm from Hartford where she's from and nobody here talks like that. There is also no" New England accent ". It varies everywhere. We in Hartford definitely don't talk like the people in Boston!

  • She wanted to sit comfortably so her testicles can breathe.

  • @aexxxon Not nice, but funny.

  • now that is a true actor, who treats and makes their work like art. those actors from back then were artists, and back then acting was an art, so people respected the artistry and the artists who made it.

  • Que perra la dominada.

  • She's kind of a demanding bitch.

  • Love her...but I'd be so intimidated if I ever met her in real life.

  • She's not a happy chappy

  • i looooove classic movies starts bette davis marlene dietrich joan crawford etc etc... im sorry if this bothers anyone but KETHERINE HEPBURN IS MY LEAST FAVORITE OF THEM.i just dont like her at all. to me there was just something bout her that bothered me and after watching this! well...i have PROVEN to myself that yep i was right..but she is a legend so..no disrespect

  • @giavannira Out of all the ones featured on the Dick Cavett show, Katherine Hepburn was my least favorite. Now Bette Davis, she's in a class of her own in the interview.

  • @IamKesyerSoze Mine was Lucille Ball's! She seemed so uncomfortable and I felt so sorry for Dick the whole time!

  • @vampirehuntress1018 I actually didn't mind Lucille Ball's. Granted, she was awkward and completely uncomfortable, but I don't know why but I found it weirdly... engaging? This one, Hepburn did nothing for me. Which was weird, because before I saw the interviews, I thought Hepburn would be one of the more intriguing interviews.

  • Katharine Hepburn freely admuitted that she was a ' character' of her own creation and this is in full display here. Folks do ttake things far too seriously on here. She may of complained about the set, but actually she was the one that moved the table in the end, whilst the stage hands wandered about. I cant imagine some of todays so called 'stars' moving furniture - they'd probably just storm off the set!!

  • Kate was a terrible bully and admitted to it. In this little happening she even do it a nice way. The Cavett staff did enjoy having a star who truly was living, breathing and real, bully or not.

  • i like her movies, but i didn't know she was so full of herself. o well...

  • I read that she did not like Meryl Streep's acting. That tells me everything I need to know about Ms. Hepburn. She was an arrogant bitch, AND she overacted. She should have taken some lessons on real class from Bette Davis. Now there's a down-to-earth rockin movie star.

  • @alinmiami1 Kate Hepburn overacting? and you like Bette Davis? It is clear that you havent seen ANY of the movies Bette Davis starred in...SHE was overacting most of the time...

  • @musculusgarbos I apologize. I guess what I meant was that Bette Davis seemed like she "knew" her acting was over the top. She was "in" on the joke. You are right. The only thing that comes to mind is "All this and heaven too" and "Now Voyager".She did not overact then. But what I meant was that Katherine always (in my opinion) overacted and didn't know she was doing it. She took herself too seriously. I'm sorry, but it hit a raw nerve when she critizised Meryl. All her Oscars prove me wrong.

  • @alinmiami1

I see your point... Kate frightens me a bit, and she does not seem fun to be with. Bette was hilarious!

  • she's so right though. that's a hell of an ugly set. and the chi flows better with the bigger table moved forward for the feet to sit on.

    she's amazing.

  • @AudiGal09 lol so much for being a lady...lol

  • for anyone who so obviously doesn't GET her humour, she's having a joke about the complete spontaneity of the interview.

  • whatacunt

  • I think it's so great that she has Cavett in the palm of her hand...Classic Kate

  • I'm sure that any actors who did that today will surely be flamed by everybody. And she's just an actress, no need to be so high and mighty.

  • never seen anyone make such a song and dance about a daft table

  • I was named after her :3 I am so proud to be named after arguably one of if not the most influential women in cinematic history.

  • Rude!

  • Rude

  • When your Katherine hepburn....you have the freaking right to act like this!

  • She's paid her dues. She can put her damn feet on what ever the hell she wants.

  • @greg19670 Dues? What the fuck are dues? Fame and fortune do not give you the right to be a jackass like she is here. She's a tantrum throwing little cunt.

  • @Huboons And your language is very degrading of women, regardless of who they are.

  • @AlenaJolie You'll get over it.

  • @greg19670 She doesn't have to be a pain in the ass about it,, she COULD ask nicely. I'm sure they would've done the same thing if she was nicer..smh.

  • I dont care if she's a legend, the old bitch should know you don't put your feet up on a table if you have any manners or class and the way she just lets all the stagehands fuss about getting her a proper table... man what a shrew!

  • @SUPERDOOPERTUBER I think you've lived a very sheltered life, if this is what you consider shrewish behavior.

  • Comment removed

  • :38 look how she sits. Just like a man!

  • Putting her feet on the table??!! My grandmother would have rung her neck!

  • So funny, people call her a diva or "uptight" if THAT PIECE OF CRAP Taylor Swift asks for ONLY orang m&m's noone thinks a thing of it. kate is the best and always will be so deal with it!

  • This was a great show-!!

  • Once I heard that in her early career, Katherine was known for descending staircases with more grace than any other actress. I still think about that when I'm walking down a staircase.

  • I still think she is the MOST overated actress of all time.. She is always the same. Boring!!!!! O.o

  • That's the way A diva acts ;)

  • Comment removed

  • iD WISH I THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE..

id like no color, and paint this dark brown, dont laff coz i'll do it!!!...8)

  • "Dont laugh, because i can do it" :D

  • uptight is the word i believe?

  • She's wanting to show off her legs?

  • she was a......um, "dear" lol

  • What the hell is she on?

  • Umm, are you kidding me?

I mean I know she's like one of the best actresses.

But this is just flat out rude and disrespectful.

    She's full of herself.

  • @CarlyIsAGangster

She's joking around. It's her sense of humor.

  • @AtLastOnTheGround Then she has NO sense of humor.

  • @CarlyIsAGangster Dont you think its because of her age that time? It made her a little weird so to speak.

  • i love her in her films but what a pain in the ass

  • Listen to yourselves. The whole lot of you. This lady is CATHERINE HEPBURN. If you are blessed enough to have Kate grace you with her presence and need a slave to put her feet on, you get beyonce and make her lay on the floor so Ms Hepburn can rest her feet. Do you even KNOW who this woman is?

  • @MadonnaProject Clearly you have no idea who KATHARINE Hepburn is, either...

  • I think senility was kicking in here.

  • Comment removed

  • omg what a bitch! I hope she's kidding!

  • Is she serious or just joking? Not even the technicians know, and they seem a bit stressed out. "Professionalism" is about focusing on the creation at hand, and co-creating with others. It's not about intimidating the very people whose cooperation you require.

  • She knew she was a great Movie Star but In front of an audience to carry on like this all because she didn't like the table or the color of the rug was totally over-board. Just because she wanted to put her feet on the table she carried on. This woman who was supposed to be very cultured and refined certainly didn't act that way.

  • She was just there to check out the sets. The only audience was the technicians behind-the-scenes and they LOVED her! This interview happened spontaneously.

  • I love her, she one of the kind.

  • @MeztizaAngie Maybe you're not a native English speaker. In English, we say "one of a kind", not "one of the kind".

  • You can excuse her actions anyway you want to but Katharine was a prima donna of the first order. She was selfish, demanded to be catered to and didn't care about anyone else's feelings. Saying she was an "artist" and "knew her stuff" are just excuses to accept bullyish and rude behavior.

Compare her to Audrey Hepburn who was gracious, appreciative, thoughtful of others and paid no mind to the color of the carpet for a place she'd spend one hour. She considered others and was a real lady.

  • They don't make them like her any more! Can you imagine any of today's leading ladies rearranging the furniture?! Their "people" do all that now. She had an innate sense of what played well... and here she was right. The orange rug made ths set look dheesy.

  • She doesn't want a table that wobbles. It's the mark of an artist.

  • She's a very unusual person

  • If you think she's a bitch then you're truly a shit judge of character and should never be allowed to vote in any election. Watch the rest of the interview to see her sense of humour. The carpet was never changed and the background never painted and she didn't care.

  • @taraniso i'm sorry, are you mentally retarded? try googling her she's only the greatest actress to ever rule the silver screen. oh and btw, YOU'RE a true kook #1 for disrespecting Kate, & #2 for using the word kook to begin with.

  • What a fucking ignorant jerk you're!!! Not knowing who's Katherine Hepburn! Go home sweetheart and put your head under the pillow and disappear.

  • @jillove7 amen to that! other than the fact that you spelled her name wrong, but that's okay, you're forgiven. (fyi it's KATHARINE)

  • Markhh's observation is right on the money. Miss Hepburn, of all people, knew exactly how she should appear and that not only applied to her makeup but to the setting as well. I remember when this Cavett interview was announced and what tremendous excitement it engendered. Kate did NOT usually appear on tv..so it was thrilling to see her speaking with Cavett. Also, perhaps she was just a little nervous about being on national tv and wanted to be sure everything was as perfect as possible.

  • Listen, you don't get to be a star without learning how to make sure things are set up for you to be comfortable and look your best.

  • I don't think I would have liked her in person but her movies were great.

  • you have got to love that north eastern pompousness. the arrogance is indicative of her sheltered and priviledged upbringing

  • My Oh My! Haha!

  • pretty bitchy actually - she's a legend, but someone chose everything for that set for a reason and she marches in to arbitrarily criticize it? it's not her house

  • Nooobody answers in this business! LOL

  • Kate was Kate. Frank and fabulous.

  • Was she kidding. I am too young to remember her acting. But she was 'something' in the day, huh?

  • she was something in anyone's day...

  • That is so funny!

  • Fantastic!

  • she is fantastic

  • her upper thigh is really hot at 0:41

  • ......or should I say had.She was old here but looked 20 years younger.

  • Kate has nice thighs.

  • Love this woman so much!

  • God are we glued here ?....We're glued here !

    Love it !

  • fascinating.

"let 'us' be the color." so prescient; so professional.

neat glimpse into the thinking of a highly developed mind. plus it's a pip of a video.

  • Thanks!
