Wrong all around. 1. The M5 is JUST over 4000lbs, not 4300lbs. 2. This is an LS2 Vette so it's 100HP LESS than the M5. 3. It's Very likely that the Vette is running drag radials, based on a 12.3@113. 4. The M5 was probably in "400hp" normal mode, not 500hp "M" mode. M5's stock easily run 12.4-12.6 @ 114-116 mph, if you check > drag times . com. This C6 had a well above average run compared to the slowest M5 run I've seen.

Exactly. It's more expensive, sure but the overall build quality is far superior to that of the vette. My 2007 mustang GT, however much i love it is total crap compared to quality to my M5. Vette isn't much better. What with all the dinky hard plastic dash and everything. M5 has full leather over every freaking interior panel, even the roof is lined in suede. The best part, the engine is unbeleivable. The smooth 5.0L V10 is a far better performer per liter than any NA engine chevy has ever made.

Tap on the dash and you'll get a hard knocking sound. That's plastic kid.
They do have a full leather option this year for the vette's. I think it's about 3500 bucks, and you a get a dash and other things that can be wrapped in leather. It makes it a lot nicer. Even the regular 5 series BMW's dash material is a much higher quality material than a hard plastic dash piece in the vette. Why don't they make a 7 liter engine? That's an irrelevant question. Do prosches, ferraris and lambos have 7 liter engines? No, the porsches turbo engine I believe is a 3.6 or 3.8 litre.
Who cares how big it is? The lotus exige uses a 1.8 or 1.9 liter I think and gets 240 hp. Engine size doesn't really matter. If BMW made a 7.0 liter engine tuned like the V10 M engine, it would make 710 horsepower. Without a blower. Chevy had to use a supercharger in the new ZR1 to acheive 100 HP/liter. Plus, the M engines rev to 8250 rpm, the new V8 M3 revs even higher. 8400 I think. BMW engineering is superior to GM. The suspension is also much more comfortable and just as tight.
I never said it was faster did I? BMW CAN do it, they just choose not to. Why wouldn't they? I don't know. I don't work for corporate BMW, so it's impossible to say. But if i were to venture a guess, there's no market for a BMW with that size engine. It's not worth it to BMW to make it, nor do the customers (the market) ask for it. This world is going to see a lot more smaller engines with turbos and SC's to increase economy and reduce fuel consumption. It's united states law now.
I own an 02 Z06, and I have test driven the M5 Both are great cars for what they were designed for..If you want a track car buy a Z06, if you want the ULTIMATE Street car/Family car, buy the M5 , Its an Awesome car to drive..and handles unbelievably!!!
Vettes lighter no mystery about speed and handling it's all about weight and the Vette is light! Plus it really helps to have drag radials! Otherwise slip slidin away!

Vette isn't much better?
Um... 0-60 in 3.7 and a Nurburgring time faster than that of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches? Hardly. Dinky hard plastic dash and everything? Have you ever been in a Z06? Or even driven one? Was I talking about performance or was I talking about the quality of the interior and overall build of the car? Learn to read kid. Sure, the Z06 is faster and handles better, but it's not a better quality car. Yeah, I have sat in a Z06. Haven't driven one, but I have driven a 2008 Z51 C6. The dashes are the same. Tap on the dash and you'll get a hard knocking sound. That's plastic kid.

They do have a full leather option this year for the vette's. I think it's about 3500 bucks, and you a get a dash and other things that can be wrapped in leather. It makes it a lot nicer. Even the regular 5 series BMW's dash material is a much higher quality material than a hard plastic dash piece in the vette. Why don't they make a 7 liter engine? That's an irrelevant question. Do prosches, ferraris and lambos have 7 liter engines? No, the porsches turbo engine I believe is a 3.6 or 3.8 litre.

Who cares how big it is? The lotus exige uses a 1.8 or 1.9 liter I think and gets 240 hp. Engine size doesn't really matter. If BMW made a 7.0 liter engine tuned like the V10 M engine, it would make 710 horsepower. Without a blower. Chevy had to use a supercharger in the new ZR1 to acheive 100 HP/liter. Plus, the M engines rev to 8250 rpm, the new V8 M3 revs even higher. 8400 I think. BMW engineering is superior to GM. The suspension is also much more comfortable and just as tight.

But why wouldn't they? If GM could then why can't BMW do it? I respect Bimmers and I agree that BMW has superior engineering than the Vette.
However, that does not mean it's faster because it isn't. And like you said, it doesn't matter how big the engine is. It's just about the end result.

I never said it was faster did I? BMW CAN do it, they just choose not to. Why wouldn't they? I don't know. I don't work for corporate BMW, so it's impossible to say. But if i were to venture a guess, there's no market for a BMW with that size engine. It's not worth it to BMW to make it, nor do the customers (the market) ask for it. This world is going to see a lot more smaller engines with turbos and SC's to increase economy and reduce fuel consumption. It's united states law now.

I own an 02 Z06, and I have test driven the M5 Both are great cars for what they were designed for..If you want a track car buy a Z06, if you want the ULTIMATE Street car/Family car, buy the M5 , Its an Awesome car to drive..and handles unbelievably!!!

Vettes lighter no mystery about speed and handling it's all about weight and the Vette is light! Plus it really helps to have drag radials! Otherwise slip slidin away!
