A life long fan, I was dancing to James Brown in 1975 but somehow the brilliant 'How do you stop' passed me by some 10 years later. Excellent song but can you hear the Commodores 'Nighshift' tune throughout, especially the chorus.
hmm....this song was his labels attempt at making him more contemporary....i didn't like this song back then and really still don't : (
this isn't the real james brown....goddammit james brown was a screamer....and he would sweat his life away....there is no way he would sweat off this song, lol.
From the late eighties I heard this song and almost sent my family to the loony bin for playing it night and day, love, love this song soooooooo much.
Are you in a bad relationship an looking for a way out? If so, take some time to listen to this audio presentation titled "How Do You Stop". It puts the rules on the line.
Thks for posting its an awesome song. I had the CD of this in the 80's always sounded as it was to loud and slightly distorted(this song only). Maybe the mastering
One of my favorite favorite songs of all time. Does anyone think it was mastered poorly though? All Youtube copies seem to be distorted. My 45 copy sounds the same.

Written and Produced by Dan Hartman ('Living In America". I think this is a nice slice of Soul/Pop/Funk.

Really the '80s had lots of R&B songs that didn't cross over well and deserve more attention like the '60s, '70s, and even '90s have received.

Little Steve Winwood in there, too on keyboards. This was on the tape single for Living in America put out in '88. Good cruisin' tune. RIP Godfather.
