I don't understand why everybody is so possessed by veovoda! didn't he quit armwrestling 5 years ago or something? I'm new to this sport but it seems to me that John Brzenk is the best of all time!
Nobody knows what can happen, but there's a lot of reasons to think, if Alexey would come back to arm sport he'll be very very strong again, even without screaming and making angry faces in to the camera.
@Thomasgipsy Alexey would have serious trouble against Devon, i would say since Pushkar got destroyed by Todd 6-0, Alexey too would have trouble against this Todd, who lost to Devon.
@Thomasgipsy He accomplished stunning achievements. But the best of all time cannot be known, proved or disproved. Some specimens existed in other times who may have been able to defeat anyone today, without any training. And it can only be speculation. Accounts of the arm and hand power of 18th century Englishman Tom Topham cast doubt on anyone's claims today. Men from other sports could have beaten Ali (G. Monsoon) but men from other sports could not have defeated Voevoda.
@skirts365 I agree, but that is still speculation,I believe Voevoda is the best modern arm wrestler or how to say it,he has beaten all the best anyways
@skirts365 Even the specimens from the past would have faltered regardless of their hand and arm strength, this is due to lack of technique. A guy from the past would have to be like twice as strong as Devon arm to arm to defeat him. Voevoda had a great 2004, and for that single year he is worshiped endlessly. I don't understand why?
@kasparov9 that's because, I guess, Voevoda was nobody in armwrestling, but have beaten the all time stars easily and then just gone. After that he tried a bobsleigh and became a wolrd champion (in 5-6 years), while other train the whole life to achieve that - even only in 2004 Alexey was a legend, but he was a true one.
@elite50cent Arm Tv had pay per view before, not sure if they still do. They also had the shows on Eurosport, but the shows have already passed. You might have to wait for a dvd to come out.
I love devon but everyone talks about all his endurance. Then go to nemiroff and prove it like voevoda did. It takes way more endurance to compete against many powerful men in one day then against one in one day. In my eyes voevoda is the strongest an has the most endurance ever. I dont know y ppl never thought voevoda never has endurance. He took on everyone back to back an never lost in 04. Noone has did that like he has. So devon please prove ur the man an go to poland.
@mrsaddam484 When? I checked the internet and can't find any competition results for Voevoda since 07', and that was a 6 rd against a tiny Michael Todd. Prior to that 2004. Not sure how he's #1? Man, Voevoda is a beast if the reverberations of his hits are still pinning guys 7 years later. He beat up a tired and spent Brzenk in O4, and that makes him the best? IF winning Nemiroff makes you the best, then the best is the one and only John Brzenk.
@xBARCA1899 lol, oh you're one of THOSE. Hey it's EASY to become the champ. Staying the champ is a different story. You have to remember, bagent BEAT alexey RIGHT HANDED. Therefor what you're saying about alexey, i could say the same thing abouit bagent. He could come back and do it again if he wanted to.
@trashbash2001 Yeah he has beatean Voevoda once in 2003 that was Voevoda' fault...
but in 2004 Voevoda owned him easily... Do not compare Voevoda with Bagent... Voevoda is way stronger than him... He 6-0ed Michael Todd easily in 2007 after 2 years of break....
@xBARCA1899 well, tech i CAN compare. because bagent beat this so called "legend" 5 out of 6 times left handed, and once right handed in 03 as you just said. My point is, the claim "Voevoda is the best of all time" (as the top comment above mine says) is completely false, factually.
He was GOOD. but he didnt stroll in and conquer everyone, and he certainly didnt stick with it once he was champ.
@xBARCA1899 If Voevoda was way stronger than Bagent, then why did he lose to him 5-1 left handed in the Vendetta that they had? They're equal in strength overall, Voevoda is better with the right.
They SHOULD make separate rankings for supermatch and tournament format.. quite a questionable disadvantage especially for winners of BIG tournaments like Pushkar.. and quite an unreasonable advantage for Devon who rarely goes to tournaments but focuses mainly on supermatches only...
@thefanaticx Good point. If Devon were in a tournament format against Todd, he would have lost. Todd won the first match, second match the strap broke, and the third Todd Won. I'm of the opinion that Devon wouldn't be that great in Zlolty like tournaments, as he does get beat fairly often.
@chrisconnell That's true, but they trained for a 6 rounds supermatch, not a tournament. If Devon went to a tournament, he could always go say 20lbs heavier, to compensate for the fact that he will only be getting one round per go, and as such needs to be stronger for that single round. I also agree and think Devon wouldnt be that great at Zloty, I think that's the reason why he avoids it, he like his ranking.:)
@chrisconnell Also, I think if Larratt and Todd went again..Devon would win 6-0. He understands Todd now, he wouldnt be fighting for hand control like in the first 3 rounds of their match, but instead go all out with his strength and side pressure. Todd gets into position and uses his joint lock technique to give him extra strength, by hiding under the table, it's very hard to deal with, but once you figure it out it's all ok.
@thefanaticx I think Engin Terzi is bringing out a set of rankings for supermatches. There are huge variables in tournaments, the draw and such. There really is nothing like a supermatch in determining who is better.
@kasparov9 between TWO persons, which only tests strength and technique.. the beauty of tournaments is that it also tests endurance and efficiency, and mastery of anyone and everyone no matter what style of pulling the opponent uses.. face it, Devon has never, and probably will never win the big time tournaments which a younger brzenk, or a present pushkar dominates at.. am I saying Devon can't beat pushkar? how would I know, he's NEVER even dared to trying to pull with an eastern puller..
@thefanaticx A 6 round supermatch tests endurance too. If you look at Devon's matches, he almost lost the first round to Lupkes, lost the first to Bresnan and to Todd. But one he's warmed up he tends to figure the opponent out and destroy him. I think his body is tuned to 6 rounds so he will never be good at tournaments. Pushkar could flash him easy, but over 6 not so sure.
Devon has stated that he will taken on the winner of Zloty in Jan/Feb in a match.
@kasparov9 no, no, you mean pushkar will flash him easily, then will have trouble for the rest of the six rounds, then any matches after that, pushkar's tournament endurance will catch up for domination.. it makes me sick really that the most devon can do is challenge the winner, cause he knows he can't win the whole tournament himself.. I say, the winner of zloty is the champion of tournaments and it's pointless for that champion to challenge the champion of supermatches..
@thefanaticx Yeh that's what I mean, I dont think pushkar could be him over 6 rounds. If you remember last years Zloty, Pushkar flashed Cyplenkov, then in the final Denis caught him and won. I don't think pushkar has much outside of that initial massive hit, which is probably the biggest in the world. I think once Devon catches him it's over, I doubt pushar could flash him more than twice over 6 rounds.
Devon has work commitments around that time of the year, or so he says..:)
@kasparov9 work commitment.. and so have all the other pros who show up at zloty.. I mean who doesn't? I'm cocksure it's just excuses.. think about it..
@thefanaticx I think its excuses too, but think Devon works for the army, and his work schedule is non negotiable. He's probably afraid of losing his ranking, so he stays in supermatches, where the odds are in his favor. Another point, he is all for arm wars as it pays for him competing, including the trip there. Nemiroff does not, this probably deters him from going also, Cyplenkov and Puskkar are close, Devon is not close to Poland so its more costly for him to go.
@kasparov9 I don't think Larratt is afraid to armwrestle any man on this planet. It's economics, pure and simple. I'm sure armwars has tried repeatedly to set something up, neutral ground like England. These guys get paid like crap to train and travel the way they do. Amazing that we got to see Cyplenkov at the Arnolds, but I think he gets more sponsorship. And you said it correct, the army is a stickler for time off, they don't care what your hobbies are, you vacation when they say you can.
@cbpcbp345 devon challenge denis and denis refused..... engin say that on the northestboard.... denis refuse i guess a litlle afraid and some contract rules he have with igor mazurenko..... just my opinions dont really know why he refuse
@thefanaticx Armwrestling is the same no matter what the format, no better way to see who is better between two people than in a supermatch.
I'm also disappointed with Devon's no show at Zloty, what can you do? Puskkar's biggest chance over Devon is in a best of 3, over 6 I don't think he has much of a chance. We will see though.
@kasparov9 the same? hahaha.. if they really were the same no matter what format, devon would dominate both supermatch and tournament.. NO they are NOT the same.. nuff said..
@thefanaticx Until the sport has more money I don't know if you can say that any particular tournament decides who the best is as its always the west armwrestling in North America and England, and the East in Poland, Russia etc (sucks for fans). Larratt freely admits he does not like tournaments compared to Supermatches, don't think you'll find argument there. I really can't see Cyplenkov beating Larratt, but I can see Puskar flashing him 3 times at least. Took Devon years to handle Bagents hit.
I predict Devon to stay number 1 for the next 5-10 years, he is the complete package, skill, strength, intelligence, endurance, good attitude. He may lost a battle here or there in single match tournament, but I doubt anyone can beat him over 6 rounds fresh.
Neil Pickup if u are reading this i have the best matches for ARM WARS u should make THE BEST NORTH AMERICA ARM FIGHTERS VS. THE BEST EUROPEANS
that is what the fans want to see make it happen Neil Pickup i know u can i believe in u and on the sport of armwrestling..!!! what do u guys think post your comments
search "mysterious challenger vs tim bresnan" on youtube and u'll find it. btw that match happened after tim won a supermatch against underwood, plus tim got smashed by jerry in 2007 mohegan so that shows how much he improved.
@kasparov9 I agree, his main move is his flopped wrist press, the 2 times I saw Jerry try different moves were when he pulled with ron bath for practice (after ron won supermatch against don underwood) and he used hook, and in second match with brzenk (in their supermatch) when he managed to roll out on brzenk's hand for th win.
@backpressure123 I saw that hook match too, and Jerry looked impressive. He's obviously not confident in using it in competition and would rather turn to the trusty shoulder press, where there is less margin for error and loss.
@kasparov9 Yeah, and I also think that Ron let him get it in a hook. I think if Ron wanted to take Jerry's hand he could have. But it was just for practice. Jerry beat Ron all the time except for Mohegan Sun 2007 where bath beat everyone righty including barboza, jerry, and 198 brzenk (who struggled against barboza, bresnan and rob vigent on the same day but nevertheless beat them in the end). I think John lost to barboza once in that tournament and was in danger against bresnan and vigent.
Wow, the only guys I recall could put timmy in a hook were brzenk (when tim got stronger) and bagent (when tim was weaker), but now seeing how easy devon controls timmy in a hook and how jerry struggled against tim, I think devon will beat jerry (not easily though). Tim still took the first match against devon so he is a beast too.
