WTF is he talking about at 2:37?! The Dnyarri from SC2 easily took control of the entire Umgah race and at the same time had no trouble compelling the Captain!
Dunno about being friendly, Ur-Quan Kzer-Za were always very polite and seemed more like "Punchclock Villains" than "For Evulz". Still, it bugs me she says "Some of Ur-Quan have taken the path of Kohr-Ra", you are both Ur-Quan! It would be better to say "Some of the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za have taken the path of Ur-Quan Kohr-Ra, the Eternal Doctrine".
You can tell more that they did not do the research.. Kohr-Ah sympathizers in the Kzer-Za is ludicrously impossible and lame because it defeats the whole point of them fighting and being two separate factions. Plus that random Dynarri thing thrown in there was a "wtf" moment because it's a question that has no relevance whatsoever to do with anything (plus the Captain left the only thinking Dynarri on the exploding Precursor ship in the last game).
I think maybe they planned to put in the Dnyarri and ruin him too, and you could solve the Kohr-Ah problem by defeating him somehow, and they never put it in.
Kind of like how those Syreen probes seem an orphaned plotline too.
Also a plothole... if Hyperspace doesn't work how could the Kohr-Ah escape? Whereto? Somewhere else in the same solar system? They could still be followed there.
The sad part in this whole thing is that when we will be blessed with a new sc game (I still think it will happen), some idiots will come and call it a "Mass Effect rip-off". And then I'll want them to wear an excruciator.
I think the true sad fact is that we'll probably never get a TRUE Star Control 2 sequel. SC2 was from '92, and most people don't know about it. And it was never a household name type franchise either.
However I did recently come across a fan sequel called Project 6014 that looks VERY promising.
But a true SC2, much as it breaks my heart, will probably never happen.
@Shavarnarak In a SC2 fansite the people there were in contact with Paul Reich the 3rd and he promised them that something is in the works that will the gaming community's socks off ... but he didn't clarify whether it was a SC project or not.
@ngnikolaos every game developer says that all the time. I highly doubt TFB is working on anything notable - and Activision very rarely keeps secrets.
From the deep, powerful, threatening voice that sounded so plainly dangerous and vile, with dedicated music that compounded the danger of simply being in transmission range of these space-faring juggernaughts...to this...*tear*
For those that loved sc2 and want more, I highly recomment getting over those two points and playing through it. The story is as good, possibly better than sc2. I feel like playing it now was leaps better than any other new game out there and fed my need for more starcontrol :)
Overall, would I say it was as good as sc2... maybe not, BUT it was maybe an 8.5/10 where I found sc2 to be a 10/10. IF sc3 kept planet landers and had better music, I think I'd give it a 10.5/10.
I LOVED SC2 when it was released and when SC3 came out I bought on day one, played it for 10 minutes and trashed it because: No planet lander mining, no hyperspace movement, and the ur-quan were wussified.
I just now loaded sc3 back up and gave it a go in dosbox. I have to say, I LOVED it. I think sc3 got shafted because of two things. 1) it wasn't made by the same people as sc one and two. 2) they ditched the planet lander exploration as that was at the heart of sc2.
Meh...most people completely disregard SC3 as "canon"...
I remembered when I played this...I just didn't make any additional Ur-Quan colonies. Just had the original one pumping out Dreadnaughts as fast as possible.
But yeah...SC3 was pretty subpar compared to SC2 :\
People often have a go at SC3 for many reasons, but my main problem was the fact that the music is so beyond poor against SC2 it's not even funny. It's just some boring, generic MIDI instead of the bombastic, character-defining, memorable music that SC2 had.
THis part was bs their is no way to beat the black urquan back and no conclusion to this story i really hated this part it olny kept me from building more ur quan ships i wish you could actually conqure plantes in this game . i think a RTS star control game would be better but taht just me. if they did it like the make game Ares it would be better.
The story and humour is very important to a proper SC2 follow-up, and wouldn't come off well in an RTS game.
Atually though, I fear that in the age of WoW and games like that. There might not be much of a market for a PROPER SC2 sequel anymore. Everyone wants shooters, multiplayer functions, mmorpgs and stuff like that nowadays.
To be honest, I'd rather have no sequel to SC2, then another crappy one. Or one that doesn't have the same spirit.
Played them in order myself. Star Control 1 was quite a simple game, but there was a smidgen of a story, that they developped absolutely wonderfully in Star Control 2.
Then came three and I was exited... And increasingly disappointed as I played it. Even more so when I finished it in only three days.
Most of the new races sucked, half of the dialogue was just stolen from SC2, the plot wasn't riveting, the map was tiny. Many of the new ideas where stupid. Just... SC3 was so disappointing.
During a game when I was trying out new combinations, I spoke to an Ur-Quan colony before I spoke to their Homeworld. They said I should speak to Zor-Ath as she was their leader.

such an annoying way to prevent you from building more ur quan ships in the game...:(

Of course far as people calling a hypothetical new SC2 sequel a mass effect clone...
Technically SC2 IS itself actually a Starflight 1 and Starflight 2 clone.

I laugh because they always sound a bit bothered when they hear it.....means they have to drop their spears for a hot minute and explain themselves.

There's no more loud, blaring orchestral "WE WILL CONQUER YOU" music in the background. All we get is quiet, depressing elevator music.
Plus, the Ur-quan are just way too friendly in this game.

I Like your thinking. it would not have that story quality to it. but still be fun, but your probably right though.
This was the first star control i played so i did not know any better at the time ,but when i played 1,2. I new the story was week in star control 3.

Come to think of it, not only where they underdeveloped, they were one of the few races that didn't look or sound retarded.
