  • 2:21 XD Lol

  • Very nice gameplay dude! I totally admire your skill.

  • a double high punch to Jax in mid-air, single handedly

  • imprésionant

  • I never owned a Genesis, but I did get to play this version of MKII on occasion. I think it was the distinct sound all Genesis titles had, but as a kid, I always thought the music and sound effects were creepier here than on the Super NES version. I thought it actually enhanced the overall experience, even though the visuals weren't quite on par with it.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • @kornnut43

There is the 32X version which not only retains the Genesis music and controls but also the graphics and sound effects from the arcade if you want to try that out. Just to let you know the Sega CD and 32X can be pretty messy to hook up with the Genesis due to them needing their own AC adapter to prevent voltage problems as well as an extra video cable.

  • @jennaE36

Sega/Mega CD has MK1, 32X has MK2, and TBH, aside from loading times, a better cheat menu, and blood on by default, I really haven't noticed much difference between the CD and the Cart versions of MK1.

  • i never liked this version even when i was 10 years old when it came out. snes pwns pretty much everything the genesis had to offer. but i will admit sega had some very good games but not many.

  • @27pocket

    Give over.

Sonic, Streets Of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Comix Zone to name but a few.

Beavis & Butthead was Superior on MD too, as were most of the EA Sports games.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Did you ever do a run of Beavis and Butt-Head?

  • @27pocket Of course, Snes was much better than Genesis, due to it's superior audio quality, the Mode 7, and real time scaling, though Mortal Kombat gamplay, IMO, was better on the Genesis.

I had the Amiga version of the game... it was a pain in the ass!

  • Wow, Genesis version really SUCKS! I mean, seriously, wtf! Crappy sound, crappy graphics. This is nowhere near the arcade version. SNES version is much better and is closer to arcade quality. They retained all the original sounds and music.

  • @omied711

Yeah, cos the arcade had tiny crushed up graphics and shitty gameplay.

  • @MRMIdAS2k ur are the mother of all fanboys saying the genesis is better than the arcade

  • @MannyMMA

And you are the mother of all stupid cunts if you think that's what I said.

  • the best game i ever bought for the genesis

  • I never thought to do High Punch>Spear when attacking an airbourne opponent :)

  • WTF!!!! YOU ARE IROBOT

  • i always hated facing Kang.

  • GENESIS FUCKING SUCKS!!!!!

  • @metalmeltdown9

So does your whore of a mother, but I don't feel the need to tell randoms on youtube.

    Oh wait, I just did.

Do you actually have a well informed argument to go with your capslock, or are you gonna screech about mode 7?

  • Ur good but ERrorMAKro beat ur record! it was 10:45

  • @TheSuperman401

Wasn't going for time, just a perfect completion.

On another note, you spam comments again and i'll ban you from commenting.

  • @TheSuperman401

Also he tool assisted, I played legit.

  • YOU ARE TOASTY!!!

  • lol that was fucking pimp

  • 1:33 What the hell?

  • @LolKaochi

Thats the toasty face if cheats are on.

  • i dont get the cutting fatality, he slices there neck and torso but only the torso comes off, and somehow the upper torso goes flying backwards?

  • @ytchip21

You cut their throat to be just cruel.

the torso goes flying backwards because I jump over him, it's supposed to go over your head.

  • @MRMIdAS2k oh ok it just confused me because there feet turns the direction of where you cut them, but it stiil wierd that the torso hops in the air instead of just falling

  • @ytchip21

In real life yeah, but not in the MK universe.

  • nice gameplay dude :)

  • FIGHT!

  • I know I commented on this before, but once again, I love the playthrough dude. Your an animal when it comes to MK II

  • IN SOVIET RUSSIA, THE SPEAR THROWS YOU!!

  • I can't make any judgement as far as game play goes as I never played the Genesis version, but damn does it look like ass compared to the SNES version.

  • When I played the game, I always assumed that Scorpion was just throwing the spear. It wasn't until I saw the (really lousy) movie that I imagined the spear coming from inside his body. I am just curious whether the guys who made this had always had that in mind or if they added that later when they made the movie.

  • @grungefreak10

In the game he throw the spear.

    The movie is not cannon.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Funny that the movie is not canon, but they did retcon some elements going forward to match (Raiden being a "mentor" figure, Kano going from Asian to Australian, Liu Kang and Kitana attraction, etc.)

  • snes version is better

  • @MegaBarger

It plays like shit, and thus: is.

  • @MRMIdAS2k the snes version plays like shit?

  • @MegaBarger

Yes, its priorities, gravity, hitboxes, tiers and kombos are different to the arcade version.

  • @MRMIdAS2k oh well i dont think that any version compares to the arcade since it was originally an arcade game lol but on a platform system the best version is snes. it was half-assed on the genesis, corny music, less speech in gameplay meaning they didnt say who one the round nor did they flawless victory whereas snes covered that and the fatalities were a little less than horrible on the genesis.

  • @MegaBarger

Notice how NONE of those complaints include the gameplay?

The fatalities were unchanged from the arcade, so how they were "less than horrible" is beyond me.

  • @MRMIdAS2k ok long story short the genesis version sucked and the snes version ruled. sorry if u disagree

  • @MegaBarger

So the arcade version sucked too?

Because the Genesis version is as close to arcade perfect gameplay as you can get on a console.

I listed what was wrong with the SNES version, and you ignored it, you're burying your head in the sand because you were too distracted by the pretty colours and the whizz-booms to notice you were playing an inferior version.

  • @MRMIdAS2k uh i totally disagree with on that one, i own an arcade version of mortal kombat 2 and by no means is it as shitty as the genesis version

  • @MegaBarger

I never said the arcade was shitty, I said the SNES was, as the Genesis version is closer to the Arcade in terms of gameplay, HE said it was shitty, not me.

  • @MRMIdAS2k i kno BUT overall the genesis version looks like an improved game boy version too me whereas it look like a good game on the snes, i mean do u not like nintendo or what? cuz ur the first person ive ever had to argue with about the quality of the this game on the nintendo rather the gensis

  • @MegaBarger

Give over it looks like the GB, ok it's got a smaller colour palette than the SNES, but thats what happens when your competitor releases 2 years after you do.

I've got no problem with the SNES, or nintendo, I have a GBC, GBA, DS, Gamecube and a Wii, just I prefer Substance over style, sure it LOOKS a better game, but it doesn't back those visuals up with a game that plays like the arcade version on a deeper level.

  • @MRMIdAS2k yea thats true, idk i just prefer the nintendo version of the game

  • @MegaBarger

    Fair enough.

  • @MRMIdAS2k you're talking about Mortal Kombat like it's Street Fighter or something. Mortal Kombat has none of those things ;-)

  • @thebonefish

    Well you've obviously either:

    A) not played MK much, or

    B) are a dribbling retarded troll.

Check out ANY of the Kombo vids for MK2 from Ultimatemk you'll find theres more to this game than the Street Fighter fanboys will have you believe.

  • Nice video!

  • will you ever make a (genesis) flawless run of umk3 scorpion?

  • @opticsensor

Nope, don't like Dial-A-Kombo's, especially not against Uber cheap AI like Jade.

  • @1:33 What the hell? You're not Dan Forden!!!

  • Does anyone know how to unlock sonya and kano in this game ?

  • @uubnex4

    You can't.

  • when you performed the fatality on mileena, how'd you get her to fall from the spikes? i've done that fatality many times without that effect, but i've had it happen to me by the computer player

  • @SirTophammHat

In the Arcade, you pull down on both sticks, on the home versions, hold down, and hammer block.

  • the snes version is more clear and better.

  • @sonicxisforever

    Better?

    it plays like ass.

  • @MRMIdAS2k yes, better. that's my opinion.

  • @MRMIdAS2k just like how "it plays like ass" is yours..

  • @sonicxisforever It has better graphics and sound quality, except parts of the music exits in and out when you perform move, like the original mario bros. on the NES. I still prefer the SNES version for the graphics increase though. Arcade version still is superior in both graphics and sound, but that isn't as practical.

  • I wasn't sure about getting this, because I heard that they had changed the blood to grey to look like sweat instead. I know that was at least thought to have been added at one time with some console during the time before the ESRB. Thanks for putting this up though, now I know I can get it.

  • @GeneralGiantPanda this is sega genesis version. the one w/ grey sweat was Snes. Nintendo felt it was too violent back in the day

  • You play like a computer. How many years have you been practicing?

  • @Borisyoch

    since about 1996.

  • @MRMIdAS2k

    Since 1996 up until now?

  • @Borisyoch

on and off yeah, I do play other games too!

  • "COME HERE!"

  • scorpion vs scorpion. hmmmm... very hard decision there.

  • Whys the toastie guy some weird clown in this version?

  • uhhh TAS???

  • @ztheking11

    nope.

  • scopion are good warrior

  • i got that for christmas bring my memories back

  • a big part of my childhood you're lookin at here :-)

The best and darkest MK part imo and the best gameplay + soundtrack in this version, though the pure sound "quality" was a bit better on the SNES. But they felt the need to put in some unneccessary and retarded sounds as well into the SNES version. For example the sound while jumping (rotating). This and many other sounds were distractive and just too much - it destroyed the gritty atmosphere of this one. Well imo..

  • @Cyricque

I wouldn't mind those sounds if they were subtle, but they overwhelm the music, which is a bad thing.

  • You don't need the six button controller to play this, do you?

  • @sciprio1

No, the 3 button pad is fine too, although Scorpion's toasty fatality is a lot harder to do, and several fatalities that require the holding of HP have been changed, as well as Shang's Kintaro morph.

  • @sciprio1 no but six button helps.

  • GENESIS FTW!! :D

  • While I commend the Genesis version by keeping the basic elements of MK II (gameplay, blood, fatalities, character animations, etc), I do miss the screaming of the characters when they get hit and die, as well as Shao Kahn's announcements of FATALITY and the character name. Not to rain on the parade here, but that's why the I find the SNES much more preferable.

  • @sdcazares1980

    Gameplay is a "basic element"?

wow, I'd hate to see your gaming collection.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Uh, yeah it is, or were you being sarcastic?

  • @sdcazares1980

Gameplay is one of the most important elements of ANY game, if it plays like ass, you don't buy it, and yes, the SNES version played like ass.

  • @MRMIdAS2k

I am VERY interested in why you think the SNES version played like "ass"?

  • @majinshenmue

Jumping is wrong, hit priorities are wrong, timing is wrong.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Oh and my gaming collection:

Half Life Complete, The Orange Box, GTA IV, GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice Cite, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Quantum of Solace, Bully, Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros 1, 3 and the Lost Levels, Midway Arcade Treasures, Manhunt 2, Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, River City Ransom, Elder Scrolls IV, Doom 1 and 2, Brothers in Arms (all three of them), Wolfenstein 3D, World of Goo, KOTOR, TMNT Arcade Game, The Darkness, Assassin's Creed, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, etc.

  • @sdcazares1980

wow, you can buy popular games, well done.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Yeah, and I've played them too.

  • @sdcazares1980

    so?

the point was if you favour style over substance, you're a fool.

  • are you using TAS?

  • @Dragoon1020

    no

  • left , down , left , right , down , down , right , right

  • @loverman0o0

wrong, wrong, and getting wronger all the time.

  • u put a one kill on urself??? gud choice with scorpion btw im gud with him too

  • these graphics are so good they almost look 3D. i wonder why 80s genesis games looked so grainy by comparison.

  • oh man! the Megadrive version looks and sounds horrible compared to the SNES version, great game tho :)

  • Jax's wave sounds funny on this version

  • @Oni64

Probably due to either the Mega Drive's sound chip being unable to do the sound from the arcade properly, or the fact I'm using HQ audio in GENS.

  • @Oni64 Actually I have the original cartridge of MK2 and jax's wave attack sounds as original in this video,so no need to worry MRMldAS2K nothing happened during recording :)

  • were u usin an emulator???

  • @Firemanfh12351

Yup, only way to record properly as the Only 60Hz genesis I possess is a Nomad, and they're not great for fighters.

  • how did you get test mode to appear and how do you do the spikes fatality at 2:03

  • @ChrisNarutofan

Wow, if only there were a million and one sites out there that'd TELL you this kind of information...........

  • @MRMIdAS2k are u ever planning on doing a flawless run with hardest difficulty on MK 3?

would be awesome to see that :)

  • @Lazander100

    I'm not a big fan of MK3.

Dial-A-Kombo's are irritatingly bad, and I don't get on with them.

  • scorpion's so good he kicks his own ass

  • Come he.......!!!

  • @MRMidAs2k: You own this game, how long you been playin and who do you play as? *my characters r Liu Kang, Kitana, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero..

  • @RedWingsfan1369

Scorpion, Sub Zero and occasionally reptile, Liu Kang and Shang

  • God damn bro you're fucking good.

  • 1:34 wtf?

  • @CleteLichty99

alternate Dan Forden because cheats are on.

  • i still have this game for the genesis, man this game take me WAAAAY back. nice vid

  • How the ass you do this without getting hit. I got this downloaded on ps3 of course and be always beating arcade mode but this is ridiculous

  • @Greatmurderer

Just learn the AI, although the PS3 version is arcade, so it's harder than the home ports.

  • dude i take u on mk3 and shalin monks and armagedon

  • @czf21

    And you're blocked for spam.

you would take me on MK3, cos it sucks and I CBA to learn it, Dial-a-kombo's can suck my dick.

Shaolin monks was decent in multi-player, hardly a deep game though.

Armageddon can fuck itself. Scorpion has been nerfed to holy hell.

  • 5:37 i was laughing xD

  • Sega Is Killin SNES for MK

  • *splat* GET OVER HERE!!! *whack* toasty!

  • Sega Genesis' MK 2 is by far the best convertion of the arcade to a video game console.... graphics talk by themselves and the sound is so clear (or crisp¿?).

  • Much prefer the Megadrive version for the music and most of the effects. I also prefer The Blue Portal to Goro's Lair when fighting hidden characters.

  • I watched the very first fight lol... He whooped his ass lmao

  • The 3D ones are a lot easier than the classic ones, but I love playing 1,2, and 3 even if I do suck at them. MK2 genesis has a better soundtrack than SNES IMO

  • @basketballceltics I notice in the 3D Versions every version Mileenas titties get huger or maybe it's just me

  • I've spent many hours playing this version of this game (cartridge only), and I've never had the game lock up on me, low kick fatality or otherwise.

  • Yeah the 3D MK's are good too. Deadly Alliance is probably my favourite MK game because it was the first time I played a MK game with various fight stances. I'll always like the classic MK's but the 3D versions give the game a lot more depth.

Lol, I just realised that you have MK1 videos. I think I'll watch them soon.

  • You've got some mad MK2 skills. Are you this good at any other MK games?

  • I'm good on MK1, 3 onward suck, but I don't mind the 3D ones.

  • Yeah the 3D ones are good too. I'd say Deadly Alliance is my favourite MK game because it's the first time that I played MK with different fighting stances. I'll always like the classic MK's but the 3D MK's gave the game much more depth.

I just realised that you have MK1 videos, lol. I think I'll go watch them.

  • @MRMIdAS2k yea that is true

  • @Dan742617000027 Keep in mind the Super Nintendo version is actually harder.

  • I love the test modes in the Mega Drive version. They make up for an otherwise somewhat corner-cutting port :)

  • Genesis!!!!

  • ...This game is badass on all systems, is it really worth fighting over? and this was my favorite game growing up, all i had was the genesis(ppl still make fun of me because i was born 1996) and missing 1 map, who gives an F about just one map?

  • I love MKII. I think it is one of the best fighters out there. What I hate is the piece of shit the Genesis version is. I LOVE Sega Genesis and they did a good job with MK 1 and 3 but this port SUCKED! The SNES was awesome and the arcade was of course the best one. The genesis sucks for many reasons. I don't understand how anyone can think it is a good port.

  • come off it man, the Genesis version was infinitely closer to the arcade gameplay than the SNES could ever get.

  • The gameplay was smooth, yeah, but really. The genesis version has many flaws as I will state:

    1)Most voices are gone

2)All fatalities with a low kick button press ending would FREEZE THE GAME!

    3) You need to specify that you have a 6 button controller EACH TIME you play.

4)All body parts disappear after a fatality ie Shang Tsung's

5)The music sounds nothing like the arcade

    6)THERE IS NO CROUCHING PUNCH

    7) Most background items are gone like the pterodactyls

    8)Goro's lair is not present

  • 1) so? doesn't affect how the game plays.

    2) horseshit, it doesn't, as you'll see in this run, friendship with scorpion uses low kick.

    3) that'll be because the Genesis primarily used a 3 button pad.

    4) so? affects gameplay it does not.

  • 5) neither does the SNES, OK, the genesis sounds worse with MK, again though, makes no impact on how you play the game.

    6) again with the crouched punch, it's rarely used, outside the few combo's that need it, which, were nerfed for the home port anyway.

    7) dunno about you, but I tend to look at the fighters, not some insignificant shit in the background.

    8) yes, and the gameplay suffers for it.

  • Do Kung lao's fatality and press LK again, after you complete the fatality, and you will see what I mean.

  • you've obviously played a different game to me then, Kung Lao's fatal has never crashed my game.

  • I play the US version so maybe the UK version is different (If there is one). All I know is when I press LK after a fatality that uses LK, the game freezes and the sounds freeze too. I didn't mean to upset you, I was just expressing my opinion.

  • Well it's a World cart, so I doubt it's a region difference, just I've never experienced it, and I've tried on every ROM I have, on my Mega Drive, and on my Nomad, and can't seem to replicate it.

  • good job man..there is alot of games u can play on very hard, but this one takes skill with flawless, u got my props

  • MK 2 is the best MK game ever made MK1 was kool MK3 was dogshit MK4 was awesome MKDA was okay MKD was cool MKA as in armageddon was okay but this one is the best any port you find of this game your expecting a hell of a time playing this kick ass fighting game which is MK2

  • fuck yeah.

you play Shaolin Monks, best MK for fucking ages.

  • fuck yeh it is, that shit never gets old.

  • thats prolly because it was the MK2 story and not the shit stories that came after.

  • wad the hell is that at 1:33??!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAH

  • dude you kick ass! i wish my system still worked. scorpian was the best to use, if i wasnt him i was sub zero

  • mk 2 is way better on sega then nintendo.

  • str8^ man

  • not a single punch against scorpion

  • alright so i read some of the side comments on the other pages and...

for MKt 1 and 2, the sega offered better gameplay, MK2 for SNES was MMmmmmMMUCH better than 1, and the differences in the gameplay between GEN2 and SNES2 was subtle at times, glaring in others.

SNES feels-to me, an old school gamer FROM THAT ERA, a bit clunky, the Genesis feels tighter, more "accurate"

the guy who made this video isn't a "Sega man" he's obviously a "Mortal Kombat man"

by the way, good job on the vid

  • But you like wrestling and death metal, so your opinion isn't worth much.

  • you DON'T like Wrestling and Death Metal, so your opinion isn't worth much.

  • wtf is that 2:22 where is dan forden?

  • They should show you the biographies of the characters you are going to play as.

  • its in the 32X version, a version that i personally really enjoy

  • Scorpion is cool, but it's pretty lame that his only combomove is the meat hook

  • the game is at very easy,,,anyone can do this,,,,,,,,u think its hard??,,,,lol

  • So, where's the vid of you doing it?

    oh wait, you can't.

  • I'd like to see you do it
