  • Awesome, and don`t forget the chorus: Lynn Davis, beautiful voice!

  • Underrated Musician !

  • The best of ground

  • heard this song for the first time in 81? high school days. Until now Still my top 5 greatest songs ever written for me. The melody,lyrics,arrangements,vocals....super tune...

  • i really love dz song,,,,

  • I can't get enough of this upload. Classic.

  • Love this one!

  • Anyone know what year this was taped??

  • @firelione Looks to me around 86-87.

  • @MrSteveEllis: Do you really think so? I both 'lived' with it in New York when it came out, and have it on the awesome DVD from the stunning concert in Tokyo -83, and this seems much later than that. Please all who upload: Do give as much info you can! Musicians, when & where.

  • doesnt get any better than this Bravo!

  • One of my favorite songs ever for some reason it just really works for me!

  • hah those r some dope cazals, he looks a little like the egyptian lover with those glasses :-D

  • I first heard G.D. when he played keyboard for Frank Zappa in 1975 in Austin, TX !!

  • Whoopoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Yeah baby!!! Stan is a sexual man chocolate!!!!

  • Re: GHETO123......Is who dead?? George Duke?? I just saw him and talked w/ him before show in Sept of this year in Oakland, Ca

  • yeah George Duke, i just wanted to know cuz i thaught he was, myy baaad

  • are u serious

  • he is amazing, i dont no but is he dead?

  • Nice track....pretty song. Music heals the soul. Look at society today, the children appear to be soulless. There is no real music directing them.

  • agreed, there is some, but not much

  • @fnkdrmmr So true...I couldnt have said it any better.

  • @firelione Thank you.

  • @fnkdrmmr I couldn't agree more! Nice :D

  • @fnkdrmmr i agree w/u youth nowadays are more patronizing on music that is hard to understand...(juz an opinion)

  • Beautiful song! Don't worry about the haters; they are silly!

  • ching chang cong munja mitoko chiito mito kito majasomo mijako satifami maumi lee jacki chana muko joto ching chang ciong miiuuuuu aaaa miuuaa aaaaa

    ahhhhhahahahaahahaha++

joke i like japnaese and chinese and all peopels on the wolrd

great concert , great musicant... beautiful, sexy, funky, real art!!!

  • Yeah the voice, the age...but my friend we are speaking about emotions will never die

  • Who is the lady singing?

  • The lady in the white is Josie James and the lady in the black is Lynn Davis.....Both phenominal backing vocalists and George Duke uses them as often as he can, they are on a bunch of his live/studio recordings.

  • poor throat!! he´s suffering singing the song,

    nothing like 1981

  • @sinchronicity Yeah, I've noticed that too! I've always enjoyed hearing his falsetto register in his singing. I guess the older he gets, the more likely he seems to refrain from hitting 'em notes. On his "In A Mellow Tone" CD, he did a more laid-back version of the same song in the same key, but he basically used the deeper, more natural octave. Check out "Brazilian Love Affair" - the live 2003 version (if the video is still on Youtube) - I guess age is a factor - you gotta love him!!!

  • song came out when I was a senior in high school and at the time I thought that love would last forever....what did I know...but the song still sounds good and I like this version.. wish I could have seen it live...as for the comments....it is true, but once in awhile. someone comes along that defies the odds/marketers and sticks....thanks for posting.

  • 3:25-6:10.............unbelievable

  • Comment removed

  • unbelievable!! wish i could travel back in time .and watch them play this song live!! sweetest song on earth!!

  • again..one of the greatest tunes ever written for me...soo timeless...lots of youthful memories..davao 82..stella maris

  • Man, I love this song! Just don't make em like they use to...why why why????

  • Even though this isn't my type of music, (I'm a jazz musician) I felt obliged to put my two cents in,as to why songs aren't like this any more. See below.

  • Reason #1: It doesn't pay. They can put out pure crap music, in a factory. Every "artist" is instantly replaceable, and there are hardly any whose career lasts more than a few months. Then it's on to the next flavor. The "artist" no longer has to have any talent, for that matter. They can hook his voice up to pitch correction software and, voila, he's on pitch, every time. (Oh, and that synthesized sound to their voice is rather trendy, dontcha know?)

  • #2: The vast majority of Americans have no listening skills. Music has become something that accompanies images on a TV screen. We have lost our attention span, and no longer appreciate music simply for what it is. We don't know how to dim the lights, close our eyes and just listen any more. If we did, 99% of today's pop music would be in the trash. Record exec's have discovered that the best way to market a song, is to make the song short enough to be encapsulated onto a ring tone!

  • The way to change all this? Well.. vote. Vote with your dollars. Think analytically about the music you purchase as carefully as you think about the food you buy, and the clothes you wear, and demand quality. No matter what kind of music it is. Just my thoughts.. sorry for the rant.

  • It makes sense, I agree. Just hate the fact that these type of tunes just don't hit the soundwaves anymore. Thank god for youtube...bands like Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool and The Gang, Brick, Midnight Star-they had talent. Look at their videos, nothing fancy at all, but the sound and words meant something.

  • I totally agree whit everything you say. Just to add that situation is same in Europe too, probably in whole world. Marketing destroying art. Real problem is that new generations doesn't understand real art. That could lead to much worse problems... Sad.

  • raw-super live performance by the genius......sit back and just enjoy..again just enjoy the groove....

  • I ABSOLUTELY AGREE ! Gives me goosebumps...

  • this reminds me of after the love has gone by earth, wind and fire come to think about it...

  • where's stanley clarke ??

  • so sweet

  • One of my all-time favorite love songs

  • What year is this vdo?

  • This is a Beautiful Song! I was only 10 yrs old growing up in GUAM when I first heard this song. This song brings back good memories growing up in Island

  • OMG!!!!!

  • the background singers deserve their props...what beautiful voices they all have

  • The bassplayer is not Stanley Clarke.

The bassplayer looks like Freddie " Ready " Washington, Clarke never play a Ken Smith Bass, The bass is a Ken Smith 5 strings... Sounds Awesome!

  • gonna say it again....greatest love song ever written...

  • BTW, who is the drummer in this video - he's fantastic!

  • looks(with a little hair) and sounds like Rayford Griffins. not sure, just a guess.

  • I was thinking him...

  • The drummer is Chester Thompsom ( Weather Report, Genesis, Alphonso Jonhson...). He's awesome!

  • Yes, Chester Thompson on drums!!! Good toms and snare sound!

  • Drummer...?

  • I love this song!!!

  • reminds me of my childhood... when life was all good. is it just me, or did anyone else notice Carl about to pass out twice at 8:07 & 8:25? what was wrong with him?

  • Is Stanley actually playing here, because he doesn't normally play rhythm so far as I'mn aware...

  • he plays bass

  • I'm aware of that, but the bassist here doesn't sound like Stanley.

  • Sounds like it to me...

The slapping tone sounds like his usual Alembic bass.

Could be using a dfferent model played through the same rig, but sounds like him to me..

  • Again, I'm not on about the bass he's playing, but the style - it's unusual to here Stanley play rhythm without any lead parts at all.

  • True, but this IS a project with a keyboardist/singer who'd really be considered the frontman. Though this bass playing would probably trump most others, so it's not as if he's downgraded the quality, just made the playing more fitting to non-instrumental music.

  • I know what you're saying, but you'd expect anybody hiring Stanley to want him to perform a solo at some point, or at least sing he's barely even visible in this performance. I mean it's like hiring Eric Clapton to play rhythm guitar on your record without asking him to solo - you may as well just ask a session musician like Daryll Stuermer.

  • True, but still, maybe he just made a concious desicion not to go all out, or maybe this song just wasn't extravagant.

  • The sound good, v talented musician, this song sure bring back fond memories.

  • Another song for the class of 81'....I liked the studio version, but this one is a keeper. Thank you for the post.

  • UpThanks

  • Sir Duke, still love this song

  • This is not sir duke Stevie is talking about though! Thats Duke Elington

  • i know, Sir Duke was a tribute to Duke Ellington from Songs In the Key of Life back in 1976

  • exactly! Best album ever!!

  • Old skool groovin' at its groovinest! :)

  • The good old days. Notice the piano sound from the Roland MKS-20 synth module layered with the DX7 e.piano. Love the 80's the times of the first digital synths. Of course I own an mks-20 myself too :D Btw. the sunglasses is so dead wrong! :D

  • hehe... his falsetto caused hsi voice to give out. It happens to all of us.

  • One of my all-time favorite love songs

  • Fantastic man! My all-time favorite! for my sweet baby aida! thanks for sharing this video!it brings back some good memories.

  • Sweet!!!!

  • "Lady" by stanley clark and george duke is also a fantastic song. just wondering why its not in youtube yet, i hope someone would upload it,, thanks

  • I was looking for "Lady" too, got it on vinyl but never seen it in concert, lets hope someone spins it into view :)

  • "i want you.. sweet baby.. i will never be free from your embrace.. only hope that it's not too late to try again.."

  • nice song sweet baby

  • nice song ivery lyk it!!!

  • Great performance.this is one of my favorite songs

  • This is a pure classic!

  • Oh yeah.

  • This song is so smooth. It is difficult to believe that Epic Records didn't want to release this as a single . They felt it was a too white (whatever that means). The pop department said George and Stanley were black artists with a white record and that they didn't have the time to promote this record at pop radio.

  • Yeah, I read that too, in the commented discography on Duke's website. A very interesting read for Duke fans!

  • I have always loved this song. Takes me back to a particular summer as a child, everytime I hear it.

  • He admitted on the Dave Koz radio show, he couldn't hit those higher notes like he did 20 years ago. He admitted he uses those back up singers more now. However, timeless song, great entertainer, and nothing to be ashamed of just b/c it's 20 yrs. later.

  • No, it's not his strongest vocal effort, but live shows can be that way sometimes. The song itself is timeless. There is no music today that can rival old school classics like this. I am deeply moved each time I hear this.

  • yes great! Ive got a question. Where I Can find a songy by Abraham Labolier AND I DO , same top! cheers

  • Growing up I used to give instrumentalist a hard time :they never sing lovesongs. But then an older DJ friend of mine pull this Duke & CLARKE out ,with this classic on it . Man i was sold.

  • he should work on his voice

  • when youre as accomplished as george..the voice doesnt seem to matter anymore,i mean..theres nothing more for him to prove..he is a legend and it would be a privilege to see a true musician like him perform..

  • Yes Duke sings he has an awesome voice too IMO ...if you listen to "Andy" by Frank Zappa, Geogre Duke kills it on that song...funky mofo

  • George Duke is the man!! where's my dookie stick, lol

  • hope someone have a video of "touch and go"

  • wow, he looks like Mr T in this video lol, love his playin, i never knew he sings, great keys player

  • my dad was there lol in his 20's

  • a cool love song its the best!

  • nice? to hear the real thing, go vinyl. the best sweet baby version ever

  • The DX-7 is a piece of crap..it's his PROPHET-5 you want!
