  • Forever England!

  • Bring me my bow of burning gold bring my arrows of desire bring me my spear o clouds bring me my chariot of fire and I shall build Jerusalem in our green and pleasant land!!!

  • It's about social change. The social elders may not like it, and this is why it's never been the national anthem. Since when did poets not question? The question marks are there for a reason. To question. Those fucking dark satanic mills are still there. Respect Blake.

  • why can't this be our national anthem? i am proud to be british. my skin is brown but my blood is of the british empire: part bengali, part nigerian, part english but the union jack evokes a sense of unity in my eyes, not the discrimination and chauvinism of such groups as the BNP and EDL

  • @MrKennethfelch Your Right I am a proud white person but Black and Asian men have spilt blood for Britain and have died under the Union Jack I don't care if your Black we are British brothers and we will continue to defend our Commonwealth and defend our sadly small last bits of the Empire

  • Proud to be English.

  • Your Empire was built on drug running, slavery and mass murder, good onya fools

  • @StevenBrech Which is why we have left behind democracy, freedom and good law across the planet - why the British parliament is known as the "Mother of Parliaments."

And why 2.1 billion people have chosen to remain in free association with the Commonwealth.

  • @StevenBrech Name a government today or a past Empire that wasn't/isn't! Compared to the USA which is covertly corrupt beyond measure, Spain which is famous for eradicating several tribes, the Mongols who were cruel, the Romans who were also cruel, the Third Reich which nearly destroyed a religion in Europe, the British Empire was peaceful. When Britain was the world's dominant power, there were no world wars and very few continental wars. Oh and Britain was one of the first to abolish slavery.

  • @sthill1993 Quite true. And you might add that all the British Colonies that gained their independence in the 1960s and 70s were far better off under British rule. I would also include India and Pakistan in 1948. And this from a Yank.

  • @StevenBrech you talk of this Murderous Empire yes we did terrible things but look what came out of it America Canada Australia New Zealand India and much of Africa we gave the world Language Education law and order and most of all a chance if we were this terrible empire why would we have a British Commonwealth all former Empire who have spilt to blood so that there mother nation would not be have to stand alone against the might of the Enemy and we were the first to abolish the Slave trade

  • Thank God I was born an Englishman!!

  • Bring me my Bow of burning gold;

Bring me my Arrows of desire:

Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!

Bring me my Chariot of fire!

  • Makes me pround to be a british soldier

  • Truly amazing, makes me proud.

  • I'm an American and this makes me regret the Revolution.

  • @Francetothenorth We're a big part of your history, you are a product of our Anglosphere, and we can rule the world together :)

  • @Francetothenorth That's ok, family members sometimes have a falling out but were'r together now.

  • THIS IS ENGLAND SINGING, TAKE HEED

  • this is ENGLAND

  • I think of my friend Colleen, living in Wolverhampton whenever I hear this....God Bless

  • As an Englishman and proud Brit, I hope this hymn swells the hearts of all our cousins across the seas.

  • @WTFBBQ5

I love England so much! Greetings from Brazil!

  • @bryanusahu

    O deus abençoa Brasil :)

  • @WTFBBQ5 Rest assured, it does -from an Australian

  • @WTFBBQ5 Another Australian here. It does. Rule Britannia.

  • Jerusalem maybe about england but its love by all british people im scottish but im dam proud to be british

  • @delb445 I assume you are not one of the idiots who are actually stupid enough to think Scottish independence will work?

  • @delb445 Good on ya. you must be in the 'majority' of scottish people against independence. Which means you have common sense!

  • I'm now even more proud of the top left quarter of my country's flag. (New Zealand)

  • You guys got problemes! GB sure has one of the best anthems. Then again every time i watch last night of the proms i think...

this song is great it could make a fine national anthem

next song play... now THIS song is great.... uh yeah...

  • @CarlGustavStads sad thing is this isnt our national anthem but it should be.

  • A Manx Triskelion flag at 1:35!

  • One of the most impressive features of this particular version of 'Jerusalem' is the orchestration... by Sir Edward Elgar.

  • An interesting fact of history is that Great Britain ("a Commonwealth of Nations") and America ("A Great People" as in "We the People") originated as the two sons of Joseph and were prophesied to become who they have by Jacob/Father Israel in Genesis 48:19. Therefore they always have been brothers, which explains our link in spite of the war that gave America her independence. The prophecies have come true, as Jacob predicted it would, "in the last days." (1700s forward). Amazing. God is real.

  • @blackandproud75

The last country to banish slavery was Mauritania, in 1981. Britain banned slavery in 1833, that's a 148 years difference, harderly the "last country to ban slavery"?!

I know that the british did terrible things, and I myself hate imperialism, but in the last few decades of the empire the british gave a lot to its colonies, like education. So in the end we weren't that bad.

  • Wonderful - en fin kultur, så (so) man(g)e gode ting.

Hav en god dag [daygh] alle mine engelske frænd-er ;o)

  • Could people please stop arguing about england and everything. I'm an incredibly patriotic person but it's annoying how people are filling up the comments with stuff about how england is the best, then other people going on about how it's not. seriously, this a beautiful song and something we should be proud of, because of the fact it's a british song.

  • @blackandproud75 please please go in a hole and die.

  • @blackandproud75 Actually, I have done some further research and a bill to abolish slavery in all United Kingdom territories and dominions was passed in 1807. Again, sort your facts out.

  • @TimBrewin Actually, the Somersett case of 1772 first banned slavery on British shores (excluding imperial posessions).

    The judge ruled that:

"The state of slavery is of such a nature, that it is incapable of being introduced on any reasons, moral or political; but only positive law, which preserves its force long after the reasons, occasion, and time itself from whence it was created, is erased from memory: it's so odious, that nothing can be suffered to support it, but positive law."

  • God save the Queen and all of Her most majestic glory!

  • @blackandproud75 For the record, I am not saying that everything we have ever done is right - for example, the conduct of Britain during the Imperial period, & the fact we were so late banning slavery, and or conduct during the slavery period. Just straightening out a few facts.

  • @blackandproud75 We gave a hell of a lot to the World. Freedom, television, the telephone, pneumatic tyres, the railway, the English language, Shakespeare, an understanding of the active principles of Cannabis, the Potato, tobacco, the first sub-Atlantic telephone cable, the tunnel shield, the underground railway, Whisky, radio, the screw propeller on ships, the British sportscar, some of the greatest sit-coms the World has ever known, the list goes on. Learn some accurate history.

  • put down the fucking flags and join the human race

  • @virgo47tp, I too invite Icelanders to join the rest of the human race as they are so inbred these days and more importantly enjoy the music.

Seriously, as an Englishman I feel it my duty to apologise for the conduct of our Glorious Leader, the one eyed, drooling, knuckle-dragging Scottish imbecile regarding his almost single-handed destruction of the banking system and treatment of Icelanders in particular. Sorry.

  • @virgo47tp There wouldn't still be a human race if it wasn't for Great Britain and her Allies in WWII

  • @TimBrewin news flash: hitler is dead and it's 2011

  • @virgo47tp I would have to agree with your comments about the one-eyed Scot who ruled us after His Tonyness, but the fact that we celebrate our history and are proud of it doesn't mean we are not members of the human race as you said 5 days ago.

  • Wow, why can't we just enjoy this great ENGLISH song rather than bitching about AMERICAN politics? YouTube /rolleyes

  • @blackandproud75 As an additional comment I should like you to understand what a racist is. A racist is an individual who holds the opinion that, for example, a black man is naturally inferior to a white man. That is racism. I nor trhe Tea Party holds those opinions although a few members might very well be racists but that can't be helped. BTW, If you are a Brit, I and many of us Yanks love your country and fought for you even before we entered the second warld war.

  • @blackandproud75 If I were to say no you wouldn't believe me so I would suggest you do a google search and decide for yourself. As for us here on Whidbey Island, if you wanted to join us we would welcome you as a fellow member.

  • It speaks of some thing that is dying fast if not dead, all the clever dicks in the world will ask you to prove it, but if you ask any of those in that audience and the massive crowd in Hyde Park they would know it is exactly as I say and they would all know what I mean. Crying out for some thing I fear may never be again.

Our politicians simply don't have the metal to do anything about it. But I suppose why should they care when you earn £63,000 plus perks and only work 6 months of the year.

  • @bushidobonce We in the States have it as bad because we are an economic baskit case but don't know it. We are now 16+ Trillian $s in debt and can bearley pay the interest on the amount let alone even to pay off the principal. But now Brit friend, I must needs correct you. Your politicians don't earn their 63,000.00 quid, thay take it. To earn a wage is to produce a product or service that is needed or wanted in the marketplace. You Brits need a Tea Party Movement like we have here in the USA.

  • @josephonwhidbey yeah, so long as the UK tea party movement isn't a group of right-wing nutters like the one in the US, mind you, even moderate republicans are nutters

  • @josephonwhidbey The tea party people are utterly irresponsible and their path will lead to the complete destruction of the United States...What a bunch of hypocrites: bitching and moaning about government spending while half of them are on social security and medicare.....And it's spelled "barely" not "bearley"...What a dumbass

  • @medesdaddy I paid into social security against my will and without my consent since 1964 as did many of us. Nevertheless, I'll stop taking payments if I'm offered a reasonable buyout that I can invest. As for the Tea Party leading the USA to destruction, our policy is to restore our country to the principals that established it. Those principals being individual rights and free markets among others. Apparently, you and I shall agree to disagree so I bid you a good day and a peaceful life.

  • @medesdaddy It is evident from your reply that your "facts" about the Tea Party are copied verbatim from leftist propaganda sites. Your idiocy extends far beyond typos or simple spelling errors. Now please get cancer and die as soon as possible, you stupid cunt. No, seriously. Die.

  • It is a call to protect our land, its resources, its people, its beauty, never rest, until we have restored the “pleasant pastures” and built a heavenly city (Jerusalem) here, in England. (It would be beneficial for people if they were to *LISTEN to the text.)

Another Englishman proud to be English !! (:

  • This gives me goosebumps! So proud to be English

  • Just one of the most mindfuckingly beautiful videos I've ever seen. From the gorgeous music to the sumptuous visuals and especially to the rich western tradition implied, truly Athens and Jerusalem. And the dizzying detail. The more you watch the more you see. Shot of two women lighting up when they see they're on screen, one in a million.

  • I always watch the 'Last Night', for it's spontinaity and regular well known tunes. I ALWAY'S remember this 2009 event as the best. The invited Conductor that night was an American, who I remember well, being so enthusiastic, genuine and funny. David Robertsone brought a lighter and amusing last night and remember him being "blown away" by the spectical as he watched, off screen, at the end of the night. A truely memorable night.

  • I am 15 years old and into heavy metal music, but I have a classical music playlist and this is on it,

  • LOVE this! :D

  • Taken From The End Of The 1981 Sports Drama Film, "Chariots Of Fire"

Enigma Film Productions (1981) rated PG.

  • @gibsosgerbil Yes, it was in the movie. However, just for those reading your comment who may not know, the words were written in 1804 by William Blake and the unison melody with organ accompaniment was written in 1916 by Hubert Parry.

  • Hang the monarchy

    V is for vengeance

  • @Soldier0123456

OMG! What grudge! All the best for you...

  • Such elegance.

  • 1:26 EPIC!

  • FIGHT ISLAMIC JIHAD! RETAKE ENGLAND FOR CHRIST!

  • @zinpgh hows about kill all paedo priests and abolish religion ?

Its a blind faith. they all are.

  • @Soldier0123456 You are vile, hateful person. Only a small percentage of priests do that. It's not blind, you are just willfully ignorant.

  • @zinpgh and you speak as though it isnt a bad thing ?!! you sicken me. and IM ignorant ? you give money to the biggest corrupt empire known to man. You really think jesus wanted a huge empire, which is reponsible for the deaths of MILLIONS of people, which extortes money to pay for their sick paedophille needs ? i think not sir. and you have the NERVE to call ME ignorant.

  • @Soldier0123456 I am inclined to agree. But only with the religion part, not interested in the pedo arguments at all thats not for people who dont know to discuss. But everyone is entitled to an opinion on religion, and im afraid mine is that of utter pointlessness. They have proven beyond doubt that we decended over time. But religion would rather have us believe that women came from Adams Ribs...mmmhmm.

  • @KOCtonyboy2011 good point there my friend. good point indeed.

  • @KOCtonyboy2011 Not all Christians take Genesis literally.

I certainly don't, and I only know one person that does.

  • Brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear this song.I don' know where I was, but when I was small (maybe 3 or 4) I heard a crowd of people singing this at an event in Bath and the tears were running down my mothers face....17 years lter it has the same effact on me. Rule Britannia!

  • It looks like two people missed the LIKE button.

Anyone who dislikes this just can't have a soul...

  • @BasilFawlty4444 They were Jihadists no doubt!

  • @39maryb You're right there, mate. Atlee's socialist government promised a "New Jerusalem" when they set up the NHS, based on the song.

We may call it crap nowadays, but I I have to say that it was what Blake would have wanted.

  • @39maryb You are only partly correct, it is absolutely about Jesus and living for Christ by being good stewards of the earth!

  • My mother requested this song be played at her funeral in her will...always touches me.

  • @Hereticalable must be a great women to have chosen such a great song. RIP to her

  • Respect from Sweden.

  • Respect from Sweden!

  • who disliked it honestly get a life

  • Subtract the Scots, the Welch, the Irish. You are left with the English. They occupy a piece of the geography of our islands, but a totality of influences. Good for them. ( And I'm bloody Irish! I will have ancestors clawing themselves out of their graves because I've said this)

  • This made me cry. I've honestly never so patriotic

Seeing the flag of St.George and the 3 lions waving in a crowed so happy, singing Jerusalem

    1.29

  • @Gamer0z :) . i cry when i watch rule britannia last night of the proms. when everyone errupts with singing i cant hold it in. its amazing to be british and no non brit could ever understand!! :)

  • You don't have to be British. I'm moved to the point of choking up by this hymn and especially the Proms performances. I can't say that ever happens with our national anthem The Star Spangled Banner. The same goes for I Vow to Thee My Country. I must be English at heart even though there's no English blood in my veins. :-)

  • @CarlGustavStads But the Star Sprangled Banner is a great song! The tune is landing wings and the lyrics have a great history behind it. Look at us germans. If u tried to put something historical into our anthem... uh no, just... dont. Its either to horrible or too long ago to have any meaning these days. And the music itsself? Sounds like someone shoved a stake up our asses. (Speaking about trying to get rid of your demons huh) no really i think ours is horrible.

  • @Pringles352 Oh, some of us do...

  • @Pringles352 I'm an American and i can get into and enjoy these, but yes, one must be a subject of the Queen to fully understand. I've been looking the year a certain older woman sang Rule Brittania..umm maybe late 90's.. anyone?

  • @irish89055 Kiri te Kanawa?

I'm American, too, but living in Australia.

  • @SchwarzeWitwe2 I'm not sure. I have it on VHS somewhere, she was 60ish and sang it wonderfully. It was on PBS in 97 or 98. Australia huh? The way the US is heading I think I may emigrate there..

  • If you disregard this kind of nationalism, go somewhere else. If you subscribe to the type of nationalism that the BNP stand for, there is something wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with the nationalism that this song encapsulates.

  • @petrolhead45

This is about nationalism in the best since, a nation striving to be the best that it can be for its citizens and the world...the new jerusalem.

  • @tosca118 The Lion represents Judah of Israel. The song is about Jesus and his coming Judgment. This song is Biblical. Most British Hymns and choruses are Biblical.

  • Sshh! I think I heard the "E" word!

Is it me, or is this being sung ever more forcefully each year? Hope so!

Knocks spots off Land of Hope and Glory!

The "progressives" can't pin "Imperialistic attitudes" on this one- purely love of one's homeland.

  • This is NOT about Britain's monarchs -- have you listened to this song? It's AWESOME.

  • This is NOT about Britain's monarchs -- have you listened to this song? It's AWESOME.

  • This is so beautiful , amazing and makes me reflect on my country of birth, so proud..

  • @swanningaround - Henry didn't just kill off his wives, he methodically 'got rid of' anybody who got in his way. Elizabeth probably inherited his logical, if cold hearted, way of thinking, but from what information I could gather reading up on her, every act she did was for the good of her country, and she was known not to choose violence as a first option. It was only reluctantly that she killed her cousin, Mary, who wanted to overthrow her.

  • i love my country ♥

  • EMERSON LAKE E PALMER VERSION OF THIS SONG IS AMAZING

  • What a beautiful song. England is the greatest country in the modern history of the world.

  • Regarding this anthem--amidst this lovely song's declaration of a New Jerusalem in England, don't forget there is a real Jerusalem, in a Hebrew-speaking land call Israel, the Israelite Jesus' native country. It sits on a mountain top, and is alive and well and beautiful and filled with the presence of the Holy One of Israel.

  • @israelipiper

jesus was a palestinian jew, not an isrealite. do your homework before you preach here mate.

  • @beautybabebuzz In Jesus' time the word Palestine did not even exist. The land of the Peleset or Philistines refer to the Ghazza strip. In Jesus' time the Philistines had vanished and had not existed as a political entity for many hundreds of years. They were of Greek origin, not Arabs. Jesus is clearly identified as both as a Jew AND distinctly as an Israelite in the New Testament. He calls Israel his own people. "do your homework before you preach here mate." Back at ya dearie!

  • @israelipiper

The Romans renamed Isreal Palestine when they conquered it - anyone belonging to an Area with a name is of that nationality - E.g. A person living in England is an Englishman a person in Palestine whould be a Palestinian, i don't see what this has to do with the New Jerusalem - Britain is much better then Isreal - We don'r drain resources of other countries and we're no a Zionist state.

  • @Rhyden11 The Romans did NOT rename Israel Palestine when they conquered it. You are ill-informed. Only the peoples from southern Greece who migrated to the area of Ghazza were ever called Philistines(aka Palestinians).Jews were only called Palestinians in the 20th century. Arabs called themselves Syrians, or Bedouins, or Druse. You're off on almost all your details. You cannot spell ISRAEL correctly. I know Britain well, lived in Leeds, and Edinburgh. I am very fond of all the UK.

  • @israelipiper

Why does it even matter to you? You're from the Zionist state of Isral, You're proberably Jewish not christian; besides - Jesus was of all nationalities, he was God in Flesh.

  • @israelipiper where abouts in leeds?...

  • @jonnygb4 Moortown, on Allerton Grange Rise. Drank at the Chained Bullon Harrogate Road. Piped in Roundhay Park by the fake castle

  • @israelipiper ok geeeeez, just wondering...

  • this should be compulsory viewing for all immigrants.

  • when i hear this hymn i start to cry. reminds me so much of my year abroad in england.... beautiful.

  • @lescottatthekop AS ALGERIAN, FORMER FRENCH COLONY .. YOU MIGHT NOW THAT ALL FORMER FRENCHS COLONIES SUCKS ... REALLY SUCKS .... LOOK TO THE FORMER ENGLISH COLONIES (the best african nations)

    GOD BLESS BRITAIN

  • @lescottatthekop

We didn't murder the Irish, they starved.

He didn't rape Africans, we brought Law and Order

We didn't start the slave trade; The Egyptians did 5,000 Years earlier, we abolished it.

We didn't destroy the Abarignee's, we gave them citizenship and they intergrated.

It Feels good to be English

    Britian is built on greatness.

  • @lescottatthekop

yeah but did WE do any of this? no, hundreds of years ago was our ignorant ancestors. not us. now put a sock in it froggy, before we remind you of how useless you were in ww2

  • God bless England the mother of the world

  • So bloody proud to be British!

    God save England!

    God save the Queen!

  • I listen to country (American) and some reggae. I am of English ancestry pure on my mothers side, and I must say this is a beautiful rendition of beautiful music.

God Bless England and the United States. Forever Allied.

  • 2:00 the european flag is too small :(

  • I like the Conducter, he seems really into it

  • @TheTheTheDanny i do too, better than the guy in the strait jacket or whatever previous year... great video but too bad the sound level is not as high or HD as it could be...

  • @irish89055

That, Man in the straight Jacket was Sir. Rodger Norrignton, i think he about 76.

    :P

  • @TheTheTheDanny other strait jacket guy, mark elder in 2006 he's about 46.. lol

  • @irish89055 Oh

  • It's nice to see no one's tried to dumb down the words to this; having spent ages being sickened by the startling prevelence of the newer 'simpler' versions of hymns and prayers, it's nice to see we can still manage a decent grasp of our own language.

  • We may have an ineffective political class, but boy is England a great country.

  • Well I guess nationalism has replaced reasoning.

The "I'm better than you" syndrome prevails.

We really should have the "I'm better than that" ideology instead.

But really, we'd all have to be dead.

  • "Bring me my chariot of fire!"

can't help but feel grand after that

  • proud to be British, not just English. We should all appreciate Britain more.

  • @Brushles83 proud to be British Aswell i think the Island Should be more Proud of Our Country :-D

  • Such an epic tune, the lyrics are a bit suspect.. jumble them around and bring on a new national anthem!

  • I'm 19 years old, American, and I love this! The English people are such a proud and resourceful people! We owe our due respects!

  • @poopingeneral Many, many thanks. I actually think we need a bit more national pride here in Britain! We can learn from the Americans who try very hard to bring their different people's together in a strong, shared national identity.

  • @britishfirstandlast

Something I never understood, why do they yell peace in the crowds?

  • @poopingeneral Thank you very much! xx

  • @poopingeneral Agreed! As a fellow American, this hymn fills me with such fondness for our English brothers and sisters and inspires a great deal of pride in our English heritage!

  • @OUScott Well acknowledged my friend XX

  • @poopingeneral this is fantastic. :D

  • Can I be really pedantic at this point. There is no English constitution and no over riding British constitution, and there never has been. The Queen is not constitutionally obliged to do anything. Personally I'm proud of the fact that we've never needed one

  • @dools23 Sorry, but that's wrong. We have a constitution. Part of it is unwritten, part of it unwritten... but there is an English constitution. It's not codified or entrenched, but it exists.

  • Can I be really pedantic at this point. There is no English constitution, there ever has been. The Queen is not constitutionally obliged to do anything. Personally I'm proud of the fact that we've never needed one

  • @cardiffyouth 85,000 British men!

  • @BFBCFTW 85,000 ENGLISHmen. Blake was English. The majority of English immigrants do not care about our traditions, that's why you only see white faces in this video.

  • @BFBCFTW and fine men they are!!

  • I thought since 1812, Brits and Americans get along. Lovely song.

  • 1 French dude watched this video

  • @gamers151 Perhaps one deaf watched this video!

  • Biggest tune in the history of the world

  • Beautiful !!!
