  • Es ist sehr schön , die Weltbeste Geigerin in deutsch sprechen zu hören <3

    I love Her

  • Her German is good - if she wants to improve it even more she should take a German man.

I recommend her to take me! Please send me a pm, Hily...

  • @HansKuhlmann Good one mate... good one...^^

  • I wish I could go. :(

    Enjoy the concert, Chris!

  • Many thanks for the upload. Living nearby I went to this performance. One of my former classmates is playing in that orchestra and went on tour with Hilary.

She did a great work with this rare played concerto I never heard before up to this time. She speaks excellent German.

I went since several years to a lot of performances of her worldwide, but she keeps more and more distance to the audience from year to year. Her signing doesn´t help because it went rather stressful in the last time.

  • @freqtrav Hey, thanks for your story. :)

I have seen quite a few Hilary Hahn shows and met her at all of them, and I have some really nice memories of the meetings, and also some awkward ones. When you say she's keeping more and more distance, I would hope this is just temporary or possibly it depends on whatever night you catch her. I always think it's just me, so I'm kind of glad you told me this. :) Why did the last signing go stressful? You mean you were stressed or she was?

  • @chrismcgovernmusic I met her about 10 times, next will be the performance with Curtis in PHL in Feb. Before years all the signings happened after the performance - long lines but Hilary took the time to speak with everybody (up to midnight in Seattle). Now mostly during the (short) intermission, the staff (as in Balt.) declined sometimes speaking to her ("no talking - just signing") but that is not something the audience expects and wishes.

  • @chrismcgovernmusic pt 2: So even you have the rare possibility and are allowed to speak to her during the intermission signing - because of the long lines there is a big chance to miss the second part of the performance (or miss Hilary). I understand that she is tired and like to leave early but instead of bothering a lot of her fans during the (for both sides) stressfull intermission signing it would be better (according to my opinion) to sign after the performance or decline the whole thing.

  • @freqtrav It wouldn't bother me to miss the second half of the concert if I was going to get Hilary's signature, since one of the reasons for me being there was to listen to her play. You have to remember she has other engagements or concerts to get ready for and she has to rest. It seems rather selfish to demand that she wait until the concert is over to sign autographs, or for her to not sign anything at all. :/

  • @rogersmr5 Yes, but there's also the flip-side of that if you miss her portion of the concert as I did when I got lost getting to the venue in Baltimore during the 2009 season. I went all the way there to hear the Higdon Concerto (Then it was still unreleased and being premiered in select cities), and I couldn't even sit in the seat I paid for while Hilary was playing. I finally did sit down and listened to Dvorak Symphony #5. Great piece, but I could have heard that any time anywhere.

  • @chrismcgovernmusic Wow, that must have been horrible, missing the premiere of the Higdon Concerto! That's the one rule, though, that I think will never change; if the orchestra's playing, then no one can come in to the hall. I missed a friend's concert that way and from then on I always tried to show up an hour ahead of schedule!

  • @rogersmr5 Well, I get to make up for this when I see the concert in NY next month. I just hope we have decent weather on that day.

  • @freqtrav I saw her perform last night, 1st time. She played the first half, the orchestra played the second half, and then the signings occurred. She stayed to sign/chat with everyone in line. She seemed very friendly to everyone, especially the kids. I'm sure these touring artists have to deal with tight schedules and other factors beyond our concern so no surprise it will be awkward sometimes as you saw. Her fans are lucky she does this regularly. Celebrity signings are usually a rare bonus.
