2/2 he does is looks around like he's about to be eatin!!!! And when i'm kicking him to go he DOESNT! And then when i'm not, he BOLTS! X( I am kinda scared of him and WAS thinking of trading him for a different horse, but i've started using spurs on him and he's running better. BUTTTT! I still dont know what to do about how scared/freaked out/being a butt when he gets in the arena, can u help me?
1/2 Hey trickridingangel (Ashley) i have a new barrel horse, Foxtrotter/Quarter and he's doing GREAT on barrels! I've done slow work with him, and now he's cantering barrels great (a little wide on first barrel but he's doing good about it, AND he's trying) but when i take him to a barrel race (he's only been to one sofar) he totally freaks when we get in the arena!!!! I kick, i whip,i slap him on the neck, i try EVERYTHING to get him to even egnollige me but all (to be continued)
Beautiful horse. She looks so smooth and calm. I'm learning to ride right now but I'm definitely interested in barrel racing in the future. My mom's paint is trained for it. :) So I'm researching videos and any tips I can find to train myself and learn more about it.
this is AMAZING!!! only 3 weeks!?!? she has those bends down like a pro! i'd say u could even show her in it within another week! (but that's just my opinion :) im not the one riding her, so it's up 2 u!)
years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
for 3 weeks of training she's getting around that first barrel well.
I still have problems with my one horse daiwa.
he CONSTANTLY does a wide turn around that first one, and the second and last one he does fine. and i've been working with him on it for about 7 months now, and we still don't run the pattern fully.
well whut i do when they blow barrels i go up to the barrel as fast as they want and i do a quick turn over their hocks as if i turned the barrel but really u dont turn it u just do a sharp turn. i will message u a video of me doing such
i dont have any videos up i no lol but i do barrel race and i train my horses but when u go to the barrel and they dont turn good stop the horse and go around the barrel again about 3 times..also lope trot or whatever to all 3 barrels and stop before you turn and ask your horse to move over before turning it then make them go right beside it coming out..trust me it works!!!
She looks like she's got a good start on it, pretty mare. :) I do wanna say I liked how you trotted her around the last barrel and broke to a walk, helps to heep the horse level headed when gaming. My horse can do it all and with a calm mind from practicing things like that :) good work!!
wow big beautiful horse!! your gonna be a great rider!:) my horse is 16hh and big too and im gonna teach him to run barrels too:) he was a race horse for a long time and i just bought him:P
and second, after she does one run perfect, quit her and walk her through. i have a big boned paint gelding. and if i make more than one medium run then he trips too. if you need to school her then i would just trot or walk her through:)
man shes huge! two tips if you dont mind me saying so . . . when you slow lope make sure in between the first and second barrel you drop to a lope and pick up the left lead. if you dont you can teach her a bad habit of crossfiring which can make her sore in the hips and pelvis. but when you speed up shes fine cause its more natural.
Actually, you never wanna pull your horse "down and around the barrel" thats how horse slip and fall, you want your inside rein up to lift their shoulder around the barrel, it makes a world of difference. :)
I don't know about that... I believe its better to teach the horse to commit by dropping their shoulder, makes for a more evenly balanced turn and helps them keep more of their initial momentum.
Besides, generally I think horses fall when the rider is trying to pull the horse through the turn rather than the horse committing on its own. If a horse is taught the turn, it'll keep its feet, unless the ground is less than it should be, lol ^_^
*shrug* It's a matter of method. Yeah... it's bad if a horse anticipates and drops too soon, but when you actually look at it, a horse needs to drop the shoulder to brace through the turn, and the flatter they stay, the less vertical movement and the more freely they'll move. A horse that runs flat and smooth, is better than one that runs high since a flat horse has a better opportunity to fully stretch out, where it can extend its neck and lower its head--when it can "lay down & run." ^_^ lol
I love big horses like that :) esp. when they barrel race. its like elephants doing ballet xD

how do you switch leads? I'm trying to start/ finish a horse in barrels and I need to know all i can. Please help me if you don't mind

the west way to reign on a barrel racing horse is to have your reigns crosed like a x
holding on with both hand then slide your hand down to pull around the barrel
it is a whole lot eaiser if your horse neck reigns!

Every pro barrel racer or trainers has told me never let them drop their shoulder, tis bad!
