The fall of Government school education is that these schools are being used as a propaganda indoctrination of Democrat Propaganda...textbooks used are according to their brainwashing agenda and it shows from these graduates of Government schools. I am glad I graduated overseas. Schools are brainwashed about Global warming , sex, gay marriage, abortions etc...The present school system is sucks...they can't even teach well that I still have to teach my daughter about Science, Math (ex.fractions)
and furthermore, public schools work when people try to make them work. my mom teaches in a public school that sends about 15% of the class to the ivy league. i myself went to a public school, and i know people who went private, and i can say i got just as good an education as them. again, i'm truly sorry your school sucked, but not all of them do. we have more students in private schools than ever! and that doesn't attribute to our fall in rank? Private school is just for the world's nepotists.
and furthermore, the fall of public schools can be attributed to the right-wing, who abandoned it long before we were 21st in education. you think we were 21st in education during the 60s? ever since the republicans came into long term power (only 12 years of democratic rule post nixon), they've had it out for public schools, out of ideology. you can say that they are attacking a system that doesn't work, but they had close to 45 years to fix it, and instead they just pushed the alternative.

I know that in my (public) school history class, we were taught about the difference between a democratic republic and a democracy. It's like how "emo" went from bands like Rites of Spring to bands like Fall Out Boy.

Before the public education system was founded, the USA was no.1 in the world for education.
