  • emotion overcomes her. lovely.

  • its sad they was only paid 5,000 to do this.

  • they were great ..., but what's with the dirty house they lived in, and why?

  • A few flies. Live in Australia or Asia and you'll know what real bugs are. Better bugs than insecticide in your pores. Most Americans live in overly aseptisised conditions and have low immunity and allergies.

  • Big Edie was delusional who drove her daughter crazy.

  • I discovered this film less than 24 hours ago and I must say that I am amazed. This is perhaps the most touchingly powerful pieces of art that I have seen in a very long time.

  • such a delicate beauty...

  • my review was only one word "lazy"

    clear and accurate!

  • "Aren't men terrible? ABSOLUTELY terrible! La-dee-la-dee-la-duuuuum!" Lmfao; I love Little Edie.

  • No glamour here. fandom? This is another sad story family being left to fend for themselves.Stubborness is common many don't want to leave the home they know. But can u imagine the roaches&rats with all those cats and catfood tins and etc.How could they even crazy live like this? people idolize the remnants -this common tragedy. How much pluck does it take to clean up once a week.MENTAL DISEASE allaround these2 way before .pics of them in better days?Edie needed a beau to help at the least.

  • How sad. She was the sister of Jackie Kennedy Onassis' father-right? Does anyone know?

  • Yes, little Edie and Jacqueline were first cousins.

  • It sounds like she's about to cry by the time she's done. :(

    Very sad.

  • Love hate relationship!! very jealous of each other. big edie more so than little edie. but they did have a whole lot of love for each other!!

  • They never did obtain a percentage of the film profits as originally allegedly promised by the Maysles brothers

  • how do you know that?

  • Because my mum worked on the film (albeit in a production assistant capacity but she had a lot of the inside scoop. I also verified it by asking some other people and now I am going to Google and see if it says otherwise. We thought it so horrendous at the time but they were gullible in many ways according to my mum but really nice women-both of them.

  • Eddie do it nicely babe, LMAO

  • I just saw the movie with Barrymore and Lange. Loved it! Then I rented the documentary.Loved it too! And chefmate 1951,what you said...true. That doesn't make it not a sad story. The sadest stories are those we bring on ourselves.

  • you pathetic self righteous prick.

  • truth hurts?

have a nice day and the same back to you youngster.

  • But thats what makes the story!

  • what a narrow minded point of view - this depicts the depths of mental illness among HIGHLY intelligent women so powerfully........ these women are incredible....... there is a much deeper reason they lived like pigs you dipshit!!

  • i agree with u

  • @househeadericmd once again, someone who 'gets it'. brilliant!

  • She was a lovely lady.

  • about fifty seconds into the video there are bugs crawling on the wall......gross

  • so what???? it adds to the ambiance of grey gardens...

  • ambiance??? don't be so daft!! what nonsense. bugs are bugs!!! these were two incredible highly spirited fascinating women who were left to their own defences by their family & society despite their privileged background & family conections & sadly succombed to mental illlness to one degree or another. would they have ended up with mental health issues regardless?? possibly....

  • ...but that they were left to fend for themselves...barely managing...is so sad & yet you have to admire their tenacity to keep going. the conditions were filthy & should not be 'romanticised' for the sake of other elderly folk living in poor or squalid conditions today & after all the Beale women amounted to far more than the house itself, as beautiful & awe inspiring though it was. Edie you truly were Revolutionary!!! glad to say i find the film & their story more inspiring than sad.

  • anyone notice the cockroaches or flies crawling on the wall behind her?

  • This is from Charles Kingsley but she loathes Marlene Dietrch

  • 'Are you ready for your steeple-chase, Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree?

Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Baree,

You're booked to ride your capping race to-day at Coulterlee,

You're booked to ride Vindictive, for all the world to see,

To keep him straight, to keep him first, and win the run for me.

    Barum, Barum,' etc.

  • What the hell is behind her head?!

  • It looks like a bunch of newspapers or pictures.

  • Aren't men terrible???

  • ...absolutely terrible.

  • She was apparently booked to ride Squalor, for no one would bail her out of this blight.

  • my absolute FAVORITE scene!
