Wow....I guess my opinion of Lee was too high. He's a much bigger supporter of authoritarian regimes than I though by his other videos. To be fair, I didn't start viewing him until 2009. Personally, I find the image of ANY President getting a shoe in the face hilarious. Of course, Bush deserves far more than a shoe..me thinks a little public stoning by all the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Day the Earth Stood Still was actually pretty good, maybe it was because I had low expectations. Also District 9 had a agenda ,I disagreed with, as well but it was also one of the best science fictions films I've ever seen. Avatar had one as well and was one of the most annoying sci fi movies ever. I a movie can have an agenda you disagree with and still be good.
the reason he was able to throw a shoe at him was because a shoe is inconspicuous dumbfuck, if he had a knife or a bomb he wouldn't have been able to get through security, are you suggesting that all reporters have to take there shoes off to see the president?
2. It could have been a lethal weapon? Did it ever occur to you that you are allowed to wear your shows on an airplane despite the huge amount of security controls you have gone through?
3. I highly doubt your intellect if information and entertainment are opposed factors to you.
4. Please rename your channel you know nothing about how the world works.
Well I estimated a little bit more consideration considering you are naming your Channel "How the world works".
1. Can you imagine the impact it would have when someone gets shot for throwing shoes? The consequences it would have for the allready bad reputation of the U.S. in Iraq? Also someone In the security brigade would get fired. It is quite obvious that the U.S. government would have had to apologize for that escapade. And the U.S. government doesn't like that very much.
It's pretty disturbing that you even ask the question, "Should these people be trying to give us MESSAGES and MORALS or should they just produce completely objective entertainment, full of explosions and make out scenes and happy endings?"
The movie was advertised as a documentary, not an action film. And I'm sure if a documentary came out debunking global warming (which there have been) that was as popular or celebrated as An Inconvenient Truth you wouldn't be asking that.
That makes you a tyrant if you wanna shoot him for a shoe, but if it was a lethal weapon yeah they would be able to do something. :] You are awesome! Keep going!
> What do you mean by "hoax of the holocaust"? Are you suggesting that one most documented tragedies in human history didn't happen? So I guess you think that all the SS guards who did the killing, all the Jewish survivors, and the allied soldiers who've seen the carnage are ALL liars, and that all the photos and video footage were ALL fake. Are you really that out of touch with reality?
> Fuck you, you worthless, subhuman, racist piece of shit. Suck my dick.
It is correct to say 2 shoes. It is also correct to pair of shoes. But thank you for showing us your jealousy.
British Kingdom......lol! You lost your war and if you were to get into a scuffle with us, it would be like fighting an infant. Wants some tea and crumpets to go with that ownage?
Seriouly if you think that by your lame attempt claiming that if we went to war over an incorrect grammatical error shows how feeble mided you really can be...Pathetic!!! Listen if you want to go to war over something seriously, kill your bankers! You see your banks have made you and i pay a debt which they are due to pay with Interest, but will keep pockting vast sums for themselves.
The reason that leftist support the shoe thrower is that it really expresses how much the middle east hates America. Many people are still under the illusion that the middle east view us as liberators and heroes but when 500,000 Iraqi's have been killed because our president started a war by lying about WMDs people will understandably view the U.S as a de facto terrorist organization.
I don't understand how having the title "president" makes you immune from shoe throwing. I personally don't think a politician is innately immune from any kind of criticism that anybody else isn't innately immune from. I've thrown shoes at people, it's not that bad.
Yeah we totally should have shot him. I figure 10 common folk are probably = to the life of One George W. Bush. Maybe 5 if we are talking republicans. If we factor in the that the poor guy was probably just pissed that he lost a few family members from George's bogus WMD war and wasn't intending to kill him we could probably all be happy with just shooting his knees out. I always wondered how you won so many debates with such poor logic. You weren't debating yourself, were you?
Everyone wears shoes. The secret service is not going to confiscate peoples' shoes, or underwear, or things of that nature. What will happen, would probably be metal detectors, bomb sniffers, and things of that nature.
Also, you pose an interesting question.
Should the free speech of movie makers to express their views as allowed in the constitution you so obviously cherry-pick from, be restricted?
1. No I don't think it was cool that he threw the shoe, but shot? And can you actually imagine the reaction if he actually would have been shot? People would have gone nuts.
2. If you don't like educational movies, don't watch them. walk out of the theater and go see something else. I prefer movies and books that make me think. And if I get in the mood for something that is plan entertaining then I do the background research and go something else.
I heard that the movie was going to be about global warming long before it came out. Don't get me wrong Im tired of hearing about global warming (especially being a scifi fan) but I dont think they "tricked" anybody.
Leave the entertainment industry well alone. You had plenty of warning about the subject matter in DTWSS. How about 70 years of the book being on the shelves, or 50 years of the original film being on the shelves. The content was the same.
Mind you, it was a pretty bad movie, let alone a bad adaptation of one of the classics.
And, global warming is scientific fact. No debate stands on the issue in the scientific community, only in politics. If you have a problem with that, take it to God.
I don't think shooting a man who throws his shoes is a fair and just punishment. Maybe some jail time, but definitely not an execution.
And, HTWW, you bring up an interesting conundrum for movie writers and directors: Should theatre educate, or entertain? In community theatres, the company can go in either direction as far as they want.
However, Hollywood is all about money, and if it sells, you're doing something right.
Re-evaluate yourself, your views, your overall "How The World Works" view, and stop being so sure of yourself all the time. The more you question your own views and opinions the more they will progress. btw Wall-e is an excellent film!
ok yes I see your point...but Bush....aaaargh....its hard to feel sorry for him......plus Im seeing this 2009/sept.....looking back, Bush brought it all on himself........Carter was not a Tyrant and False war starter. Both, entertain and teach....and patterson had a sense of humor about it...again, im looking at this sept 2009 .....
God shut the fuck up. People this is the same guy who advocates bringing GUNS...yes guns to town hall meetings where...*gasp* the president is speaking. Should we start shooting them too? Idiot.
luigi: Well the only problem is most FBI an law enforcement are on the lookout for Ron Paul bumper stickers, "Constitutionalists", and people who either have the Gadsden Flag or Civil (sovereign) Flag. Apparently all patriots are now white, racist extremists. LOL. They even tried to paint that black patriot who carried a gun as an extremist.
Believe it or not, but you can't shoot someone with a gun while it is in its holster at your hip. You actually have to hold in your hand and aim it at a person before you can shoot them.
Should have thown a knife at bush. The new Day the earth stood still sucked the old one was better. It made you think about humanity's violent nature.
No matter how much propaganda is in a film, an action taken to censor it is not a good idea. I get the feeling that presidential security is very unprofessional. Lincoln was shot, Kennedy was in a parade in a convertible. It seems as though when someone shoots at a president they succeed and action is taken after the fact instead of prevention. I saw footage of Bush speaking in front of a sliding glass door.
actually wall-e wasn't a lecture. Apparently the filmmakers weren't trying to have a message and were suprised when people started to debate about its message about global warming.
Bush is responsible for many deaths in the middle east and the reporter obviously had a grudge. Put yourself in his shoes, there is war in your country, and one of the men responsible is being treated like royalty... How would that make you feel?
Where were the Iraqi people to show shoes when Saddam was in power? It seems muslims rather be ruled by a brutal dicator then a democracy. Is islam a religion of peace? IM jk we all know the answer to that....
Well I'm sure things are somewhat better for the time being, But that does not mean they will stay that way, and now there is very likely going to be a huge power struggle, maybe after everything is said and done they will have a superior government. But do the ends justify the means? Were all the dead iraqs/solders worth the power struggle that may or may not lead to a better government?
How would you feel if your mother and a few of your close friends died because someone in iraq decided he didn't like how we ran our country? Well you would probably hate him and call him a terrorist. Yet when we flip it around, we are the heroes?
If he had a gun he'd have been considered a world hero by everyone in the world. Anyway, sure do like people being punished with death don't you? You're just some kind of sadist aren't you?
The original movie was anti nuclear weapons. It's message was: the scientists of the world are the only rational people and if only we would listen to them.... This was at a time when America was genuinely afraid that the Russians would lauch a missile attack against the lower 48. It wasn't as heavy handed as the new movie. The original movie was better. It wasn't just the didactic script, unfortunately, Keanu still can't act - he plays the same sullen simpering guy he plays in all his movies.
I realize this is a late response, just going through all your posts.
I agree about the shoe incident, I can see one shoe coming of, but two? And it was shameless that American media was in favor of the shoe caster. Sick idiots.
The guy got through security because he didn't have a bomb or a knife. They're not going to stop everyone with shoes from coming in. Besides, it was funny when Bush dodged it, so who cares? You can sort of understand why those guys are angry so it's pretty forgivable.
movies can now be considered one of the greatest arts of our time. yes, this art is obscured by corporate interests, but as an art it deserves the right to convey a message.
entertainment for entertainment's sake is masturbation anyway. all entertainment should contain a "message," whether right or wrong. this gives you an opportunity to reflect upon the message, test your beliefs on the issue, and be entertained all at once.
Um...if film makers weren't supposed to use film to convey a message but only entertain you would lose most of the world's great movies, from Metropolis to Raise the Red Lantern. And if you accept the idea for film, why not extend it to the novel and lose most of the great literature. You don't have to agree with it and if you don't want that message, go see Rambo instead. Lots of choice out there, there's something for all - no?
Why wasn't he shot? B/c he obviously didn't have a real weapon. While it's not that hard to get shoes past the Secret Service, it's pretty hard to do the same with a gun.
Writers, directors, and producers should be free to convey whatever message they like in their films, as long as the anyone and everyone is free to opt out of buying a ticket.
omfg, bombs, knifes? wtf they have security! No one has guns in that room and I think shoes are allowed. Shooting the guy for standing up to a tyrant with shoes? Dude...
what a ridiculous assersion. We should be shooting people for what they 'might' have done, or been able to do?? Bloody yanks and their bored trigger fingers... (sorry to any americans this doesn't apply to)
As for directors, if they want to outline a point to their audience then they are perfectly entitled to. You don't want to hear it, turn off. You got the message unawares, act like an adult and deal with it.
As for those movies...this is the most I've ever heard about them anywhere, because I ignore shit that doesn't interest me. Directors can make whatever the hell movie they feel like, and people vote with their wallets; that's the only "voting" that should ever be associated with what people can and can't do in a given artform.
I thought YOU of all people would understand that.
Wasn't the "shoe-thrower" standing (or sitting in a crowd), the audience that the president was addressing?
If so, that would seem like a good reason not to fire shots at him.
Plus, security at the event was probably tight, the secret service probably knew in advance that no one in that crowd had any detectable weapon. Does that settle your nerves any, you jumpy little bat?!
I can't speak for all lefties but I have not engaged in it myself. Tell me, if I were stealing from you and putting your family in debt for generations taking away your freedoms and killing people would you do anything about it? Thats exactly what Bush did. So don't give me any of this bullshit about murder.
i think directors, writers, and actors are totally free to express themselves however they wish, in whatever medium they wish. they just better say something interesting or i'm not going to go.
The shoe thrower definitely should have been arrested and penalized. I could understand maybe drawing guns on this guy, but shooting him is another story, unless it was a non-fatal shot aimed at preventing an assassination.
As far as "The Day The Earth Stood Still", essentially this director and Keanu Reeves raped a classic science fiction movie by morphing it into a philosophical story about war and peace into a stupid Climate Change propaganda flick.
I don't want to make you seem like an idiot or anything. But The Day the Earth Stood Still is a remake. It's not like they made it when the Earth was falling apart. It a VERY old movie. In the original movie they were saving the Earth from human WARS. Which, by the way, is something your conservative government seems to happily support. So get a clue and realize that that ISN'T how the world works
There the fucking secret service and good at what they do, that's the fucking reason this guy was NOT shot you fucking idiot lol, if security was some shitty organization then he would probably be dead.
dude, you can prevent people from taking GUNS to press conferences but NOT SHOES
no, wait, maybe it will become like china dytasty were nobody is allowed closer to 100 yards from the us president and anyone within 200 yards has to be shoeless!
HAHA! One of the best incidents of the last few months! Come on, it was awesome! And your boy Bush was pretty fast too. Calm the hell down. It was beautiful.
If he had something deadly, he most likely wouldn't have gotten through security. Although I think it was unethical for a journalist who is supposed to be an unbiased to voice his opinion so violently, It was interesting to see George W. have such quick reflexes for an old guy. But, shoot him?
This is idiotic. You said it yourself: he was a REPORTER and he threw a SHOE. Imagine if he threw a grenade... wait, you CANNOT. He threw a shoe because it's an insult. He might have as well called him an idiot, but I'm sure that the secret service would most likely thwart such a deadly plan. Probably using tanks and such.
If you don't like a movie, don't watch it. Directors provide products, we simply choose whether to consume it or not.
I'm curious about your other videos I'm going to watch.
All reporters are all security checked and screened for weapons. The fact that one of them decided to throw both his shoes at Bush, is not cause for riddling him with bullets. If so what would you suggest be done if someone flips the bird?
As for the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still", it's a remake of a classic 50s movie, and it sucked in comparison. Why bitch about it? Why not just pay for your ticket and take your chances like everyone else?
They're most likely checked or scanned before they are allowed into a room with the president. They would find anything deadly before it is brought in.
I think film makers 'should' be allowed to make anything they want to, or are you suggesting another government control that requires them to add a disclaimer for all the uneducated and/or ignorant?
The reason that this guy was not shot and there were no guns drawn is because the reporter drew no such weapon and they had him on the ground therefore killing him would have been a little over the top. Why don't YOU feel safe that someone was able to throw shoes at someone in another country miles from you? LOL
The "arab world" thinks the shoe thrower is a hero because they hate bush. He screwed up their country! Why wouldn't they hate him?!?!?! This was essentially a middle eastern style Boston Tea Party ya know?
You`re angry because he throug shoes at bush, but not angry because bush killed more then a million??? you fucking scum, how do you live with you self???
Well, let's see...the total death toll in Iraq is less the 200,000. Bush sent soldiers to intentionally kill soldiers, and avoid killing innocent civilians.
Islamic terrorists, however, intentionally kill civilians.
Your disingenuous liar. Soldiers are humans too. They die, scream, mourn...the whole 9 yards. Bush attacked Iraq without provocation based on lies manufactured by his zionist owners in the PNAC, and bearing the momentum of staged terror attacks used to shock the US public.
You act like it's surprising civilians suffer the worst in war, but bucko, we all know they get it the worst. Throwing a shoe at Bush was a gesture; Throwing napalm on Iraqi civilians is a war crime.
Pathetic, yes. Surprising, not really. Bush's staff is notorious for allowing second (plus) chances.
How about them Secret Servicemen, yeah? You act almost as if you are surprised. At least this time it was just a angry journalist to whom only wanted to deliver a message, verses a pre-scheduled event at a crowded school full of children. You'd think once they realized that the 11th wasn't just a "bad pilot" incident, they sure would have reacted then too, right?
I agree with you about the shoe thing. It's really funny to me that Americans are siding with the journalist. OK, we get it, people don't like Bush, but that's why we use our WORDS, we don't throw shoes, that's just retarded. I don't agree with about 90% of the things that Obama says, but you don't see me throwing a damn shoe at him. People need to stop acting like Barbarians. PS-Where was the secret service? Fail.
Yes, I also am apalled that this sort of insult to the Presidency of the United States occurred. I had thought about it and would feel better had he secret service shot the piece of camel dung between the eyes before he cocked the toss. I had also thought about the terrible press Pres.Bush would receive had he through reflex caught the fould ball and chucked it into this consumer of excrements face. He did own a Ball team.
It was not just GWB that was insulted, it was the Office of the presidency and , hence, all Americans who were insulted. This man should go to jail and never be allowed to be a reporter again.
As far as Goracle is concerned, I believe 30,000 scientists are suing him for fraud. It is a scam.
You're a moron. They don't let reporters into press conferences carrying bombs or knives, even in Baghdad. That's why this was able to happen. What do you suggest? That we put them in chains before letting them into the room? Don't answer that.
As fot SNL and comedy, there is no such thing as crossing the line. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's called freedom of artistic expression.
And no, that's not how the world works. Do some research before you embarrass yourself again.
"They don't let reporters into press conferences carrying bombs or knives."
Well, to make an argument based on what they usually do doesn't work in this case because they don't usually allow a guy to throw 2 shoes at the President.
Throwing a shoe at any president of an Islamic country is suicide. That person who threw the shoes at Bush expected to become a martyr and was shamed by not being killed.
Environmentalism is arguably the single most evil philosophy man has ever come up with. It's far worse than nazism. Trust me, if these guys ever got power Auschwitz would look like a playground by comparison.
Ok I'm wondering how people would react to this happening to Obama. Granted a suicide bomber or legit weapon would be pretty unlikely to make it into a press conference but there are some lethal things that could make it past a security check. Hell, the world trade center was taken down by a few box cutters.
I think we should be entertained at the movie theaters and not lectured. That being said, I think if we are lectured, then we should be getting the truth at least. I know a lot of people who like documentaries, because they are entertained by them (Michael Moore, Al Gore and Super Size Me and other bs documentaries). Just throw Ahnuld in a movie with some cool action scenes and explosions and let me get on with my life.
...oh, if you go and see the movie, save your ticket stub, write a letter of complaint to the production company and send your ticket stub in there, asking for a refund. LOL!!!
------------
do like the boys from south park go demand your money back lol
I'll throw my underwear at Victoria Secret Models as a revenge response!!!
...oh, if you go and see the movie, save your ticket stub, write a letter of complaint to the production company and send your ticket stub in there, asking for a refund. LOL!!!
Subscribed! About Hollywood? It is clearly a political propaganda outlet of the status quo. It is very difficult nowadays to find hollywood films with a good and truthful message.
Movies have always served to deliver social messages. Birth of a Nation, Grapes of Wrath, Gabriel Over the White House, the original Earth Stood Still, Green Berets, Red Dawn...all message movies. The travesty of this latest movie isn't the message, it is Hollywood ruining a classic.
The Day the Earth stood still blew. I only watched it because I found a copy online. I think that directors and screenwriters have the right to put any political speech in movies and I have a right to not watch this movie and to refute the claims the movie makes.
What is the new Climate Change strategy?
If we don't accept Kyoto at the expense of the industrialized world, ALIENS will come down and kill us. This is on par with Scientology. Completely ridiculous.
Hollywood has lost all credibility. They never reveal the political propaganda until you've paid your 10 bucks and you're getting hammered with it in the theater. Movies have become a gamble. And the odds are, we won't be entertained. We'll only be pissed off with political bias. The previews are misleading. In other words, we are conned into purchasing a service we don't want. Then they take the money and donate it to candidates that steal our liberty. HOLLYWOOD deserves a shoe in the face.
i am so sorry to see people like you still exist. what can make us to understand that we are not welcome to their country..Only people like you try to seprate us by using left or right. Didn't you see few years ago they throw tomato at 8 summit.you know, we all should throw shoe at him. since he and his crock pot bodies turn our country into the shit. don't you see the financial crises, housing market. unemployment, and Yes,global warming. where in the world you are living. In the wood?
Yeah I'm sick of this enviroment messaging bulshit. Films are about passion and entertainment. They shouldn't relate to current events, especially ones that are no longer a big issue.
Moron. Iraq has been invaded and destroyed and you lament a shoe being thrown at the dumbest president the USA has ever seen? Think u deserve a kick in your ass.
Hey Genius...Iraq is in better economic shape than it was under Saddam, and it is a free Country as of right now that will be able to defend itself in under 1 month.
The pathetic German Army wasn't even given authority to shot to kill in Afghanistan.
I do find it ironic, however, that I'm being lectured by a German, with such stellar human rights records.
Iraqi economy? haha Man u dont have a clue.. in five to ten years there will be no Iraq anymore. It will split up into an Iranian, a Syrian and a part which will be occupied by Turkish forces. And btw human rights? Go to Gitmo and then lets talk about human rights again, alright?
Who told u theyre from the battlefield? Start to think for urself. Neither believe European media nor US media. Believe in urself. Do u really think these guys are guilty? Okay then why dont they just put them on trial? Where are the proofs?
"Terrorists"? The CIA just pays the ISI or some locals to deliver some for money and what they get are some guys, taxi drivers from Karachi who nobody gives a damn about.
U know how much the american tax payer pays for the maintenance of secret US prisons?
I believe he was pulled of the battlefield because he ended right back up where he was found blowing up people with bombs.
Yes, these guys are guilty. They don't put them on trial because you don't use government resources to hire lawyers for terrorists on the battlefield.
You may recall in Germany, we found Nazis and shot them on the spot as America rebuilt your country. We should have done that with the Islamic Radicals.
He He He? Who r u talking about? Im really excited bout ur imaginary terrorist? Ever heard of Sami Kuntar? German guy who was totally inocent, now released back home? I dont know what its like in the USA but in a normal civil right state since the middle ages people are inocent till their guilt is prooved.
U better check on ur state before it becomes a Nazi state.
Yes, I've heard of Sami Kuntar...which is why he isn't in Gitmo.
Terrorists pulled off the battlefield don't deserve any civil rights. They deserve to be shot on the spot like we did to the Nazis on German soil while we were rebuilding your Country.
Im still watin for the name? U didnt rebuild anything. Ur putting artificial facts into your head.
Then shoot them when they r on ur imaginary battlefield and stop bitchin around with torture camps in foreign countries.
BTW Sami Kuntar wasnt on the battlefield but delivered by the ISI, genius. Think u dont deserve civil rights as well cause I just assume ur a terrorist.
Learn about your own Country genius. America rebuilt your entire Country post WWII.
After being captured fighting with Taliban forces against Americans in 2001, Abdullah Massoud was sent to Guantanamo, where the one-legged terrorist was fitted with a special prosthetic leg, at a cost of $50,000-$75,000 to the U.S. taxpayer.
50,000$-75,000$??? What was it made of? Gold? Americans really believe any shit the government tells them. Start using ur brain, and the Massoud story is a fairy tale spread by Ann Coulter.
Wow....I guess my opinion of Lee was too high. He's a much bigger supporter of authoritarian regimes than I though by his other videos. To be fair, I didn't start viewing him until 2009.
Fuck no

2. If you don't like educational movies, don't watch them. walk out of the theater and go see something else. I prefer movies and books that make me think. And if I get in the mood for something that is plan entertaining then I do the background research and go something else.

It wasn't just the didactic script, unfortunately, Keanu still can't act - he plays the same sullen simpering guy he plays in all his movies.

movies can now be considered one of the greatest arts of our time. yes, this art is obscured by corporate interests, but as an art it deserves the right to convey a message.
entertainment for entertainment's sake is masturbation anyway. all entertainment should contain a "message," whether right or wrong. this gives you an opportunity to reflect upon the message, test your beliefs on the issue, and be entertained all at once.
bassplayer211 2 years ago
Um...if film makers weren't supposed to use film to convey a message but only entertain you would lose most of the world's great movies, from Metropolis to Raise the Red Lantern. And if you accept the idea for film, why not extend it to the novel and lose most of the great literature. You don't have to agree with it and if you don't want that message, go see Rambo instead. Lots of choice out there, there's something for all - no?
philebus1972 2 years ago
Why wasn't he shot? B/c he obviously didn't have a real weapon. While it's not that hard to get shoes past the Secret Service, it's pretty hard to do the same with a gun.

what a ridiculous assersion.
Blandamour 2 years ago
As for those movies...this is the most I've ever heard about them anywhere, because I ignore shit that doesn't interest me. Directors can make whatever the hell movie they feel like, and people vote with their wallets; that's the only "voting" that should ever be associated with what people can and can't do in a given artform.
I thought YOU of all people would understand that.
psychoholicmike 2 years ago
Wasn't the "shoe-thrower" standing (or sitting in a crowd), the audience that the president was addressing?
If so, that would seem like a good reason not to fire shots at him.
Plus, security at the event was probably tight, the secret service probably knew in advance that no one in that crowd had any detectable weapon. Does that settle your nerves any, you jumpy little bat?!

Google it up.

So let me get this straight...it isn't true because Ann Coulter brought it up??
Moreover, you seem to have ignored the fact that America rebuilt your entire Country.
