If it were true then the LRO images would show things left on the Moon which they do not. @scwtrials you're hilariously wrong. in fact, no atmosphere would PRESERVE motion. Newton's first law? an object in motion, stays in motion unless acted on by an external force. Now on earth, if you twang a stick and wave a flag, resistance (and thus opposing force if you haven't gotten that) would cause the flag to slow.. on the moon, where the atmosphere is less dense, the resistance forces would be much more negligible.

@Reid52 Now we know why you failed Physics 101. As you stated, " Unless acted upon by an EXTERNAL FORCE ", that would be gravity, wether on earth or the moon. Go to APOLLO 15 Flag Waving and at 2:39 when the astro passes by FROM A DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE FLAG, THE FLAG STARTS WAVING FROM A STAND STILL ! Then it slowly subsides back to a stop. Clearly something acted upon the flag to start it waving and NO ONE TOUCHED IT ! Review your PHISICS and then try again to be OBJECTIVE, not EMOTIONAL !

@scwtrials also, you know very little about force vectors and torque. if an object in a near vacuum on a near frictionless pole were spun around a horizontal axis, it would actually remain in motion for a terrifically long time (in a pure frictionless environment without air resistance, it would last forever)
