Rise of the Planet of the Apes was the only movie I liked out of all the movies mentioned. Not sure about The Thing. The recent trailer looked really good but I wish it was called something else then the original film.
TERMINATOR 5-Written & Directed by the losers who brought you Fast & Furious, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger & lots of explosions, little to bad dialogue & possibly Vin Diesel....Oh how the mighty have fallen. STOP IT HOLLYWOOD! JUST STOP IT!
@TheSamiryoussef It's not that I didn't enjoy them, it's that they could have been better and were made just to cash in on the franchise names. I have a full audio commentary for Salvation available under the "movie night" section of my website. Check that out for all my thoughts on that. Basically, the John Conner character was abandoned in the 4th film (very one note, no growth, no personal objective). Predators was fun, but basically a remake of the first movie on an alien planet. @moviepreviewcritic I love all kinds of movies (Jackass 3D is awesome), I just hate it when there's no effort, no imagination, no creativity put forth. At least try. That's all. Don't just dress up the same movie in different clothes and call it new. There's also the whole lack of movies as art nowadays. There's something to be said for heart and soul. Toy Story 3 is a great example of commerical and art coming together for something genius. It cashes in, but gives us something in return.
Ok Transformers & GI Joe. WTF HOLLYWOOD!! These two franchises should have been no brainers. You have ample source material, you know your core audience is kids who grew up watching these cartoons in the 80s. All you had to do was make a bunch of references to the cartoons and the toys and you would have struck gold but some how you even screw that up. Seriously, who makes these decisions?!!
As a side note: I thought all of the 2011 movies you mentioned were some stupid joke some of the trolls decided to put up, I had no clue Hollywood would make those.
mpc, when i become a movie director, i promise to do all i can to stop this moviepocalypse if it continues to spread in the next few years. you have inspired me to come up with new, original ideas and even now i have thought of stories that i hope will define the reason people like you and me watch movies right now.
Long live good movies; long live you moviepreviewcritic.
You forgot Diary of Wimpy Kid!. Im 13 and I F!CKN HATED that. The only movie that I hate even remotly close to s much as vampires Suck. BTW, why didnt you do Vampires Suck Pre Re? All it is is remake of Twilight! Suprised you didnt mention that.
@Laughtraxx Haha...there's too many to remember! Thanks for bringing those up. Sounds like you've got the material needed to make a "stop it" video? LLGM!
I have been following you for at least a couple of years and I still agree with you and your reviews/previews are 99% accurate with what the movie will be like. I can agree that hollywood has ran out of ideas so they create either sequals, reboots or just something incredibly crappy and you realize it half an hour through the movie. Definitely sticking to being subscribed to you good sir and keep up the fantastic work. I look forward to your upcoming videos =) take care.
I can't really agree with you 100% because I for once LOVE sequels. The first movie is the one that should blow our minds, the one that introduces us into the world. Sometimes the first movies does it so well that you don't need a second one and that a sequel is just forced, but for the most time a sequel is there to continue the story of that world and to tell us a new, even more amazing story, but this time it's easier to do that because we are familiar with that world.
@Pic0Devimon I mena chack out Empire Strikes Back, it's one of the best SF movies ever made....and it's a sequel!
As far as reebots and re-makes go, that really depends. A reboot comes when the movie series hits a brick wall and can't continue(see Batman & Robin) but now they just seem to do it 4 the lulz as we say it on the internetm while re-makes I don't think anyone even gives a flying fuck they're just re-making what ever comes to their mind...and it's annoying...
Look, I'm all for getting rid of shitty movies. However, this message (no matter how far it spreads) won't appease anyone. Hollywood is going to make these movies because they make money and unless the general public stops watching (fat chance), its going to keep going. A better message than "Stop It" would simply be "Finanace Interesting Originals" or something like that.
Not trying to bitch, just trying to add constructive critisism.
@SilentTom I hear you and it's a valid point. I figure, "Why not give it a shot." Stranger things have happened. If one of these vids got a million hits, and word started to spread that there's a "percentage" of audience members frustrated with H-wood, it would scare some people. Once in a while we have to remind ourselves the our ticket buying is the real power. Hmmm, sounds like you've got some good things to say. Maybe making a "Stop it" video would be a way to share them? :) LLGM!
I actually liked Boondock Saints 2. But I'm a fan of the first one. It didn't really need to be made, and the first one was fine on its own, but it lived up to the first one quite well I though. Anyways, thats the only one I didn't think should have been on your list.
The worst new to me: Paranormal Activity 3. I think it's interesting what they are doing, they are bending the separation between audience and screen by meking people actually die from boredom.
@moviepreviewcritic I noticed you said Paranormal 2 & 3 in this video. Is it because they were unplanned, money-making sequels or do you just not like those kind of shaky camera movies? Just wondering since I liked PA 1 and 2 and I can understand if you don't like them.
Batman Begins is a reboot. THe Dark Knight was a sequal to a reboot. Toy Story 3 was the second sequal. X-Men 2. Tron much? Avatar 2? THe Karate Kid was a movie I despised for being remade but it turned out alright.
To have a list of movies you don't like and ask Hollywood to stop making them doesn't seem fair. We always have to keep in mind that there are people with other tastes out there and they enjoy sequals, reboots, and remakes to their movies too.
@miggizle85 This was just made to highlight the lack of originality and the fact that Hollywood is only making reboots/sequels/adaptations because it guarantees a number of tickets that will be sold no matter what.
@MaghoxFr yeah but it abundantly clear that MPC only includes reboots/sequels/adaptations that don't appeal to him. Otherwise any reboots/sequels/adaptations which do appeal to him (for instance THe DArk Knight, Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, Tron, etc) are left out. I'm just saying if we're gonna criticize "lack of originality" in some cases, we should criticize it across the board. Otherwise we're really just whining about Hollywood making movies we don't like. Boo Hoo.
@miggizle85 I see your point. My point of view is that every sequel/reboot/prequel/adaptation sucks until proven the opposite. Because the ones you mention are the very few that break that rule. I didn't like any of the movies MPC included.
Ok MPC if we're going to be fair should we include "The Dark Knight Rises" on that list? And speaking of James Cameron, why don't we include Avatar 2 on that list too. Why isn't Toy Story 3 on that list? Hey I'm against sequals, reboots, and remakes too but not if we're only going to single the ones we don't like.
For instance you mention several that I am actually looking forward to. I enjoeyed Terminator Salvation. I eagerly await Happy Feet 2. The first movie was great.
@moviepriewcritic yea man, all for LLGM and what that stands for.! I personaly am having a hand in countering that, by writing and creating my own stuff. Writing aint simple, as well as the poilitics inolved in getting the ear/eye of some would be producer/filmakers in "H-wood/Storycorp" or some "Indie" producrion company etc. But meanwhile I can do with what I have and try n network and make new friends.
102 examples of bad writing, casting, or just plain bad sequel/reboot ideas.
Paranormal Activity 3?? Ooh this time we might actually have the whole kitchen shake or a person flying.
is Cris Angel doing the special effects for this film.
Fast and Furious 5? Final Destination 5? Why why why.
Hey Hollywood, here are a few things that u havent molested yet and can make a movie about: Halo Movie, Zelda Movie, Grand Theft Auto movie, Miley Cyrus sequel, The Nutty Professor 3, i got more if u want.
"It’s very simple: if you stop going to bad movies, they’ll stop making bad movies. If the movie used to be a TV show, just don’t go. After Roman numeral II, give it a rest. If it's a remake of a classic, rent the classic. Tell them you want stories about people, not a hundred million dollars of stunts and explosives. People, it’s up to you. If the movie stinks, just don’t go."
@moviepreviewcritic i think the 3D hook has made it a lot worse for this situation, people will just go now for the sheer 3D factor no matter what the plot is, god have mercy on classic movies
@ZhaneX24 I hear you. I'm not judging the movies for quality here, it's just a list of reboots, remakes, sequels and adaptations that reveals Hollywood's thinking: make easy cash. When, it should be TELL GOOD STORIES! I don't care where the ideas come from, just put some spirit, soul and effort into it. I'm not hating, just revealing. peace, respect.
@moviepreviewcritic I was apparently one of the minority who actually liked Terminator Salvation. I won't argue that it wasn't Shakespeare, and the story didn't go where I wanted it to, but I found Anton Yelchin's performance enjoyable, and the CGI was good.
That's the issue with sequels, though. The only time we don't like them is if they're bad. I do agree with you for the most part, however.
@petrus4 No I liked too. I thought it was bad ass. MAybe cuz alot of people went in with high expectations. I knew I was gonna get a sci-fi action flick, and that's why I got.
@ZhaneX24 yeah but the point of some of them is that they are money grabbers like that dumb justin biueber movie, if you think that it will be an all time classic then you are sadly mistaken. although i did like due date because zach galafanikis is hilarious, but they shouldn't make any more then 2 hangover movies.
@ZhaneX24 its not that he was judging them, hes listing all the movies in the past few years that were sequals, reboots, remakes, spinoffs, or adaptations
I don't know. G.I. Joe was actually pretty good for a dumb action movie based on nostalgia. So the real total should only be 101! See? It's not so bad now!
I'm looking forward to The Thing - Prequell (2011) movie. Yeah. The first one delivered soo much. I think you should post something regarding the prequel.
No trailers up other then some shitty bad quality bootleg. I sent you A PM about it sometime back in 2010. I donno if you remember.
Am I the only 1 to feel like after MPC says, "Just stop it!", that the no audio part had an ambience similar to when there's an "In Memoriam" ending segment of a show? Or when a heavily dramatic scene ends in a comedy show.
@TheShadowsega75 It's inevitable. Like when Britney Spears was in movie when she was popular. U2 Rattle and Hum did it in the 80s. The Beatles did it in the 60s. The question is, "Can it be something new, different and better? Or will it just be an easy cash grab?" I wish Hollywood would dream bigger, inspire more.
@fockwolf189 It's an obvious money grab. It's like U2 Rattle and Hum from the 80s. When a band is popular, movies are made to cash in. The Beatles did it with "Hard Days Night" and "Help!" The trick is to make the films "good." And of course, if the audience knows what they're getting, then we can't complain, right? I'm not hating, just informing.
@KevsHardLemonade Respect. For me, I wish it would have taken the idea futher. It was basically part one set on another planet. It could have been more, but for what it was, the action was fine. I'm not hating, just pointing out this was a safe money grab sequel. Wish it could have been like its plural spiritual brother "Aliens." What Cameron did there was make it a character journey. We love the movie because we care about the characters. Ripley's battle is emotional, not just action.
Actually, I'm excitted for Mission impossible 4, since they have some real talent behind it, mainly Brad Bird directing and Jeremy Reener as a costar. Bird has made 3 great films, and can't wait to see how he does in live action.
I also am excitted for the Fright Night remake because of the talent. Colin Ferral, Anton Yelchin, David Tennant & Christopher Mintz Plasse starring and written by Marti Noxin, so they actually care about this film.
@jokerhulk666 Awesome! Thanks for sharing your movie passion. I agree. I'm not hating on these films, just pointing out Hollywood's thinking, which is, "Sequels, reboots, remakes are safe bets." Story is suppose to enrich, explore and entertain. When it is just the latter, it's a bit hollow. Can movies aim to be better instead of just good enough?
@moviepreviewcritic You are so right and I agree. I understand what you are saying and was just having a conversation with friends on that. I agree and I have no problems with sequels, reboots or remakes as long as they are well done and get talent involved or people who care about what they are doing. But good video and I understood what you were saying with this video and good job.
@dreamshooter90 I'm interested IF some effort is put in. The original was great. The John Carpenter remake was awesome because it made it relevant for the blood/gore slasher craze of the early 80s. What can it do for the 2010s?
although I don't completely agree with every movie you mentioned, you have a point. what's with all the fucking remakes and sequels? even prequels for that matter? I don't want to see a prequel to a movie almost 30 years old. are there no original ideas left in Hollywood? at the top of my head, the only original movie I can think of coming out soon would be Sucker Punch, which looks badass.
@BarleydawgReviews Thanks. I'm not trying to hate, just reveal Hollywood's mindset: make safe movies. Don't rock the boat. I'm all for remakes, reboots and sequels IF they DARE to do more, to be BETTER. Respect.
most of the movies here where 1 good 2 new ideas well as new as they can be but yeah new most not that good but still don't get it because a lot of people like even loved some of the movies here and some are new ideas so why put them also yes i think the whole battle ship is dumb but "Missile Command" had one of the best story's i have ever seen in a video game. p.s. not trying to be rude i like your videos
sorry preview critic. You lost credibility when you demonized rambo, but praised expendables??? stop watching movies if you hate them. choose wisely foe Ent. that fits your interest. or, make your own movie.
@fourth1000 Respect your opinion. Apologies if it came across as demonizing. Rambo 4 right? I feel that it was an easy sequel to make, based on Hollywood's, "Make easy money" thinking. I can appreciate Sly's desire to have "closure" to the series. It was a new take - revealing the "blood, carnage and horror" of warfare. It was over the top. I just got frustrated with the reason for its existence. As for Expendables...
@fourth1000 ...Expendables is a "bad" movie in terms of drama, characterization and story. But, but, it's a guilty pleasure of unintentional spoofing of 1980s action flicks by one of the major players of that genre. It's a masterpiece scary movie type spoof, but, it looks like it was on accident. I felt Sly was intentionally making a homage with winks to the camera, but it turns out, based the "making of" documentary of the film, that he was serious. For what it is, it's fun.
@NoDropLS Respect, thanks for sharing your passion! 1 was AMAZING. 2, was decent. But, I'm responding to the fact that one day Hollywood woke up and said, "What popular movie HAVEN'T we sequeled yet? Oh, yeah Boondock! Oh, that director was kind of a jerk, but hey, it could make some easy money, so let's greenlight it!!!" That's what I'm saying "Stop it!" to.
There are VERY FEW choices I disagree with you (I like Happy Feet and find Rob Zombies Halloween superior (haven't seen the second yet). I have a theory that people will go see The Battleship movie just to see how stupid it is. I believe that is what they are banking on.
@RottenEggCreations Haha, nice theory, it might actually be true! I like Happy Feet also. I wasn't knocking it. I was more responding to the fact that Hollywood is like, "If it makes money, sequel it!"
@moviepreviewcritic yeah it almost seems like we are in another era of quick bank in sequels. Freddy's Revenge, Neverending Story 2 and 3, Grease 2, Hellraiser 2, among others I can't recall.
@AMOVIEGUY14 Yeah, I debated on those. Paul Blart is decent for what it is - an easy goofy comedy. It's not pretending to be anything more than "Die Hard in a Mall." Saw VI, I should have included that. I mention Saw 3D but forgot about that, even though they come out EVERY year. Again, i'm not hating on these films, I'm just pointing out Hollywoods thinking: Sequels, reboots and remakes = easy cash. Sadly, this corrupts story and robs humans of its enriching, rejuvinating power.
@toekneebeeears It's not a hate list. It's a list what you mention, but more importantly, it's done to reveal Hollywood's thinking: remakes, reboots and sequels make easy money. I just wish they also made for GOOD stories. respect.
@moviepreviewcritic OK. Thanks for the reply. I hear a lot of people say that they hate all these sequels and remakes. But, the thing is remakes can be good. Think of John Carpenter's The Thing or The Fly. It's great to have an original idea. However just because it's original does not make it good. Also, without bad movies we would take good movies for granted. Sorry, now I'm rambling. Again thanks for the reply.
Actually, in all fairness we should wait til the mentioned 2011 movies are released to judge. However, based upon past viewings/word of mouth/most mass reviews of the past 5 or more years, theres a good bet that 70 percent of the remakes/sequals are going to be average at best. 50 percent should be less than average.
That being said, The Thing looks interesting, it will be mostly a prequel. WHo knows..?! But YES for the most part I agree with you! Im Joing the fight, video to COME!
@kashirwin Nice! Thanks for the support and sharing of your movie passion! My intention with the video is not to bash or hate, it's to reveal Hollywood's thinking: Make easy money. When it should be TELL GOOD STORIES! Cause, we, as humans, need them. I don't care if it's a sequel or reboot, just make it with effort, spirit and passion.
@fourleafcloverstudio Haha, respect for your opinion! My intention is not to hate, it's to reveal Hollywood's motivation: make easy money. When it should be TELL GOOD STORIES! I dont' care if it's a sequel, just put some soul into it.
I am actually EXCITED for Mission Imposssible 4, it's something Tom Cruise really wants to do. Each installment in the series is totally different from the last and it lets a new director show their own unique style in each film and has Cruise doing some VERY daring stunt work with (mostly) no doubles.
My question for you is, do you think putting M:I-4 on this list was justified?
@VenusHeadTrap2 Respect! I actually WANT it to be good. I mention it here along with the other films to point out Hollywood's "make easy money" thinking. It should be TELL GOOD STORIES! I want a GREAT MI4. But will it be? Or will it do the bare minimum to get by...to get us TO BUY tickets?
@dunnowy123 I hear you.
@TitanDweevil I hear you. I'm not hating, just revealing. peace, respect.
i hope there are some good scripts out there in hollywood, but the studios have no balls to risk it. it´s the audience. as long as idtios are running to the first weekend to see a hyped piece of s.....
smurfs?? Spy kids 4? 11/11/11?? Why is that date important? Wow, this shit is insane. I never really realized how many reboots, remakes, adaptions and sequeals there are.
your talking to one of the biggest Transformers fans out there and yes who gives a rats ass about the third...or second...or even the first. talk about killing a franchize.
Hey, Alice and Wonderland was good (considering the plotless source material).
I know that Hollywood has a tendency to suck, but considering the thousands of movies released every year, only about a hundred being this notorious isn't all THAT bad, really...
There are probably alot of shit movies you missed. I dont think I heard Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakal. Thats a shit heap begging for hate. Also, how the FUCK did u not include Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li (2009), that fucking piece of shit movie pissed me off and stole people's money. I happened to be a fan of the game franchised and watched all of the anime adaptation which is indeed much better than wat Hollywood has to offer. Yogi Bear (2010) was fucking awful, didnt see it
To all those idiots with poor taste, no, pretty much everything he mentioned sucked save 1 or 2 movies, maybe. I'll take a brand new 90's movie with limited graphics over another remake, sequel, or uninspired adaptation in 3D.
Oh hey Ridley Scott, Prince of Thieves AND Men in Tights were better than your stupid ass Robin Hood remake. If I wanted to take a 2 hr nap I could have saved some money.
I think there needs to be a distinction between movies that tried and fell flat, and movies that are just out for a quick buck. I mean, the movies that sucked but tried are just unsuccessful experiments of a studio taking risks for the sake of the art. cash cow phone in movies are the real cancer here.
G.I.Joe wasn't shakespeare but was damn fun to watch, that's important, I don't care if the movie has a great story if it's not fun to watch, cuz then I can't enjoy it.
The Terminator-Cameron ripped Harlan Ellison's "Demon with the glass hand", studio got sued,Harlan got paid and Cameron had to credit his story.
Aliens-sequel
Terminator 2-sequel
The Abyss-original story
True Lies-Swarchie as James Bond
Titanic-based on true story
Avatar- story based on Pocahontas, Dances with Wolfs but mainly Wayne Barlow's book and movie Alien Planet, Barlowe was hired as creature/planet designer.
@Samplelord I'm SOOOO glad you mentioned Cameron's films. Most are inspired by previous work. Either sequels or based on other movies/stories. I don't hate sequels or reboots or remakes, I hate lazy, uninsipired efforts. Cameron makes the best of the ideas that inspire him - Avatar might is a rare misstep. Terminator 2 is AMAZING. It takes everything great about the first and goes some place new. Aliens - AWESOME. It gives Ripley a character journey - Sigourney was nomianted for an Oscar
@moviepreviewcritic the thing I argue though is that Avatar remains a good step to me simply because it wasn't based on anything... Yeah it follows the pocahontas and Dances with wolves but those are over decades old now and really I think the only alternative would of been seeing a actual remake of these films, to hell with that, Avatar had imagination backing it up something that's rare in itself in hollywood. The point is at least he tries to make it his own no matter what he's doing.
@Samplelord He makes it character based and emtional. Terminator is a great version of Ellison's Outer Limits episodes "Demon..." and the one with the solider from the future. Yeah, it's a rip off, BUT, he adds to it, makes it different, new and work well as a whole. Most importantly, he's not using the names, times, property for easy marketability. Avatar was based on all those stories you mentioned, but it has NO market knowledge, it wasn't established, yet it's the biggest Box office hit.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was the only movie I liked out of all the movies mentioned. Not sure about The Thing. The recent trailer looked really good but I wish it was called something else then the original film.

Pic0Devimon 1 year ago
@Pic0Devimon I mena chack out Empire Strikes Back, it's one of the best SF movies ever made....and it's a sequel!
As far as reebots and re-makes go, that really depends. A reboot comes when the movie series hits a brick wall and can't continue(see Batman & Robin) but now they just seem to do it 4 the lulz as we say it on the internetm while re-makes I don't think anyone even gives a flying fuck they're just re-making what ever comes to their mind...and it's annoying...
Pic0Devimon 1 year ago
Look, I'm all for getting rid of shitty movies. However, this message (no matter how far it spreads) won't appease anyone. Hollywood is going to make these movies because they make money and unless the general public stops watching (fat chance), its going to keep going. A better message than "Stop It" would simply be "Finanace Interesting Originals" or something like that.
Not trying to bitch, just trying to add constructive critisism.
SilentTom 1 year ago
@SilentTom I hear you and it's a valid point. I figure, "Why not give it a shot." Stranger things have happened. If one of these vids got a million hits, and word started to spread that there's a "percentage" of audience members frustrated with H-wood, it would scare some people. Once in a while we have to remind ourselves the our ticket buying is the real power. Hmmm, sounds like you've got some good things to say. Maybe making a "Stop it" video would be a way to share them? :) LLGM!

The worst new to me: Paranormal Activity 3. I think it's interesting what they are doing, they are bending the separation between audience and screen by meking people actually die from boredom.
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
@moviepreviewcritic I noticed you said Paranormal 2 & 3 in this video. Is it because they were unplanned, money-making sequels or do you just not like those kind of shaky camera movies? Just wondering since I liked PA 1 and 2 and I can understand if you don't like them.
towlierocks 1 year ago
Batman Begins is a reboot. THe Dark Knight was a sequal to a reboot. Toy Story 3 was the second sequal. X-Men 2. Tron much? Avatar 2? THe Karate Kid was a movie I despised for being remade but it turned out alright.
To have a list of movies you don't like and ask Hollywood to stop making them doesn't seem fair. We always have to keep in mind that there are people with other tastes out there and they enjoy sequals, reboots, and remakes to their movies too.
miggizle85 1 year ago
@miggizle85 This was just made to highlight the lack of originality and the fact that Hollywood is only making reboots/sequels/adaptations because it guarantees a number of tickets that will be sold no matter what.
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
@MaghoxFr yeah but it abundantly clear that MPC only includes reboots/sequels/adaptations that don't appeal to him. Otherwise any reboots/sequels/adaptations which do appeal to him (for instance THe DArk Knight, Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, Tron, etc) are left out. I'm just saying if we're gonna criticize "lack of originality" in some cases, we should criticize it across the board. Otherwise we're really just whining about Hollywood making movies we don't like. Boo Hoo.
miggizle85 1 year ago
@miggizle85 I see your point. My point of view is that every sequel/reboot/prequel/adaptation sucks until proven the opposite. Because the ones you mention are the very few that break that rule. I didn't like any of the movies MPC included.
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
Ok MPC if we're going to be fair should we include "The Dark Knight Rises" on that list? And speaking of James Cameron, why don't we include Avatar 2 on that list too. Why isn't Toy Story 3 on that list? Hey I'm against sequals, reboots, and remakes too but not if we're only going to single the ones we don't like.
For instance you mention several that I am actually looking forward to. I enjoeyed Terminator Salvation. I eagerly await Happy Feet 2. The first movie was great.

Ripley's battle is emotional, not just action.
moviepreviewcritic 1 year ago
Actually, I'm excitted for Mission impossible 4, since they have some real talent behind it, mainly Brad Bird directing and Jeremy Reener as a costar. Bird has made 3 great films, and can't wait to see how he does in live action.
I also am excitted for the Fright Night remake because of the talent. Colin Ferral, Anton Yelchin, David Tennant & Christopher Mintz Plasse starring and written by Marti Noxin, so they actually care about this film.

@jokerhulk666 Awesome! Thanks for sharing your movie passion. I agree. I'm not hating on these films, just pointing out Hollywood's thinking, which is, "Sequels, reboots, remakes are safe bets." although I don't completely agree with every movie you mentioned, you have a point. what's with all the fucking remakes and sequels? even prequels for that matter? fourth1000 1 year ago
As for Expendables...
moviepreviewcritic 1 year ago
@fourth1000 ...Expendables is a "bad" movie in terms of drama, characterization and story. But, but, it's a guilty pleasure of unintentional spoofing of 1980s action flicks by one of the major players of that genre. It's a masterpiece scary movie type spoof, but, it looks like it was on accident. I felt Sly was intentionally making a homage with winks to the camera, but it turns out, based the "making of" documentary of the film, that he was serious. For what it is, it's fun.

RottenEggCreations 1 year ago
@RottenEggCreations Haha, nice theory, it might actually be true! I like Happy Feet also. I wasn't knocking it. I was more responding to the fact that Hollywood is like, "If it makes money, sequel it!"
moviepreviewcritic 1 year ago
@moviepreviewcritic yeah it almost seems like we are in another era of quick bank in sequels. Freddy's Revenge, Neverending Story 2 and 3, Grease 2, Hellraiser 2, among others I can't recall.
RottenEggCreations 1 year ago
U forgot Paul Bart and Saw VI with 2009
AMOVIEGUY14 1 year ago
@AMOVIEGUY14 Yeah, I debated on those. Paul Blart is decent for what it is - an easy goofy comedy. It's not pretending to be anything more than "Die Hard in a Mall." Saw VI, I should have included that. I mention Saw 3D but forgot about that, even though they come out EVERY year. Again, i'm not hating on these films, I'm just pointing out Hollywoods thinking: Sequels, reboots and remakes = easy cash. Sadly, this corrupts story and robs humans of its enriching, rejuvinating power.
moviepreviewcritic 1 year ago
Is this a list of movies you hate or just a list of seququals, remakes, and reboots ?
toekneebeeears 1 year ago
@toekneebeeears It's not a hate list. It's a list what you mention, but more importantly, it's done to reveal Hollywood's thinking: remakes, reboots and sequels make easy money. I just wish they also made for GOOD stories. respect.
moviepreviewcritic 1 year ago
@moviepreviewcritic OK. Thanks for the reply. I hear a lot of people say that they hate all these sequels and remakes. But, the thing is remakes can be good. Think of John Carpenter's The Thing or The Fly. It's great to have an original idea. However just because it's original does not make it good. Also, without bad movies we would take good movies for granted. Sorry, now I'm rambling. Again thanks for the reply.
toekneebeeears 1 year ago
Actually, in all fairness we should wait til the mentioned 2011 movies are released to judge. However, based upon past viewings/word of mouth/most mass reviews of the past 5 or more years, theres a good bet that 70 percent of the remakes/sequals are going to be average at best. 50 percent should be less than average.
That being said, The Thing looks interesting, it will be mostly a prequel. WHo knows..?! But YES for the most part I agree with you! Im Joing the fight, video to COME!

Hey Critic, I need a quick word with you
I am actually EXCITED for Mission Imposssible 4, it's something Tom Cruise really wants to do. @Samplelord I'm SOOOO glad you mentioned Cameron's films. Most are inspired by previous work. Either sequels or based on other movies/stories.

I saw T2 in the theater and was very disappointed, it is beat for beat the same movie as the first.
Terminator/hero arrive, search for target/victim, first contact/chase, the hide out scene, last chase/confrontation...
Like the original the badguy even drives a huge truck and as luck would have it, everybody ends up in a huge factory.
He added some some new characters but he just rehashed what worked with the first.

@Samplelord
The same goes for Alien, just make a bigger Alien and base them on ants.
He has a very childish way of writing, not subtle, nor original.
Which is why The Abyss puzzles me, the tone, acting, even the story....best he's ever done.
Dont get me wrong,I dont hate him...I just think he is overated.
The first Terminator an The Abyss are it for me...the rest is not bad, just generic to me.
