  • I'm repeatedly blown away by the eloquence of this kid. He moves me every time he opens his mouth, as evidenced by this speech and his Oscar acceptance speech and other videos of his I've seen on Youtube. And to boot, he's freaking cute. Bravo Lance. What you're doing in telling your story is so important, so vital and I'm sure probably actually does help saves lives of the young kids who hear it. Thank you.

  • Bravo, EQCA and Dustin Lance Black.

  • and why are we allowing religion to force shame and self-hatred into the souls of normal human beings with absolutely normal emotions and feelings? we are living in a modern world and it is better than it was before, but still not great - because of this

  • certainly we still live in a world where evil is caused by ignorance and the wish to reverse our civilization into chaos. Who can ever see the need to prevent intelligent and peaceful adults from living their live in whatever fashion they want? as long as they don't prevent other individuals from living their own lives in whatever fashion they may -as long as there is no danger to other human beings welfare.

  • Bravo Dustin! Great speech, thank you for sharing. You always amaze me with the wonderful things you are doing for the LGBT community, thank you so much!

  • Harvey is a hero to all LGBT people and he will be a hero to the next generation of LGBT people and the next generaton forever. I will be happily celebrating on May 22.

  • Wow, thank you so much for posting such an informing video. It put me in tears as I related myself to the topics of which he spoke. For those who are against this video/ topic, visual yourself in a position in which you wake up daily to hate, scorn, disgust and conditional love then state your opinions. Harvey Milk is a national hero and has given hope to those who had none including myself. Thanks and God bless.

  • Holy flaming homophobes Batman!

  • lol...youre scared

  • Homosexual activists are very good at have more normal looking people represent them. Tolerance is not enough. They want to be "normal". And, that ain't going to happen. The push will continue, but we know what comes after that

  • Forward...after the push comes the shove, right?

    So...shove it.

  • What most people don't realize is that Harvey Milk was well known in San Francisco as a promiscuous PEDOPHILE. favoring teen addicts. Just google on this, including Randy Shilts book

  • kuroe702, a reminder and a question,

    1) CA has very generous opt-out laws for parents to take their children out of lessons they find objectionable.

    2) Are you saying you think the contributions of LGBT people should be erased from the history books because there are a few anti-LGBT parents?

    --George from EQCA

  • SATAN turns makes people gay??? wtf? I think it is so funny how religious people use "satan" as a POOR exuse for a sinfull life. Gay people deserve equal rights! God doesnt make mistakes. Gay people do not chose to be gay, they were bornt hat way. Again god doesnt make mistakes. I hope that one day gay people will have equal rights becasue THEYDESERVE IT. Expecially Dustin Lance Black.

  • The bill encourages schools to practice appropriate commemorative exercises, but in no way requires any curriculum changes. Learning about important historical figures and civil rights leaders is hardly equivalent to forcing students to practice a particular religion in public schools.

  • True, but Harvey Milk for some is a "particular civil right leader" too. And I don't believe there won't be any curriculum change if this pass, school will start teaching about it, teaching Milk's value and belief is right. While some do believe that, some don't. And the people who don't can only sit through it and accept it. While they can not raise an argument about their own believe. People who love Harvey Milk can still do so, but let the people who don't have their freedom too.

  • There is nothing in the bill that mandates a curriculum change. If Harvey Milk is recognized on this day in a school curriculum it will depend on the individual schools and school districts. And if so,you are certainly within your rights to opt your child out of class if you wish.

Just because they may teach the history or biography of Harvey does not mean they will force his beliefs or values upon children. They teach Hitler's biography in school, but that doesn't mean they tell kids to hate Jews.

  • it's obvious you dont belong here in this country...remember ignorance is very dangerous, sooo watch it!!

  • And what exactly makes me ignorant???

  • we will overturn this...sincerely the prop 8 crew!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I believe there can be different way to achieve what he is talking about. If the government and the state tells the school and students to celebrate this day. It will be unfair, why government tells the school to celebrate Harvey Milk's day and teach about it, while they can not ask students to pray and in some school, carry bible is prohibit?

  • Because celebrating and studying CIVIL RIGHTS is not religious practice.

  • I support you Dustin =)

  • A very moving speech ! Thanks for upload !

To every gay and lesbian, NO suicide.

Think about Harvey Milk, and know that gays are a minority, if you commit suicide, our minority becomes a minority - 1.

    Gaygreetings, from Holebis ♥♂♂,♀♀♥

  • haha... sorry to burst your bubble, but gay and lesbians can procreate. my mom is a lesbian. :)

  • cool! and like your mother, ickyroto, there are examples of similarly stable, well-adjusted, productive gay and lesbian persons in everyone's families that somehow touch their lives, albeit sheltered as many try to be....thus the rantings we see from the self-righteous, holier-than-thou's on places like this, who refuse to see that sexuality is not a lifestyle or choice, but a simple fact of life with which they eventually must come to terms.

  • Unfortunately, gays and lesbians cannot procreate biologically. They can adopt and use artificial insemination, etc.

  • Well, um, yes indeed they can ...many do it the old fashioned way... perhaps if you said "gay couples" cannot procreate biologically... but the other thing many of us have tried with many different motivations...

  • Clearly I meant that gay COUPLES cannot procreate biologically.

  • @ickyroto Haha of course we can! I mean how many gay men are actually married with kids? I'm pretty sure I can f*** a girl pretty easily but I'd rather not ;)

  • Crypto, um, gays and lesbians can certainly procreate. They're not sterile, you know! Plenty of gay men and lesbians have children. I have two gay dads myself.

  • Amen to that! If anyone reads the bible they will see that is is wrong. We do not have a confused God he knew how he wanted it to be from the beginning man with woman. And all dat gender changeing krap is wrong also god knew who he wanted people2 b when they were born man or woman.I feel so sad that most of those confused people have to be under the influence of satan. it is satan who wanna make you kill yourself and do other bad things cuz he know it hurts God.God bless u and any1 who c this

  • "harpie ilk" (whoever that was) may have been one of the unfortunate men forced into a life of underground relationships at a time when merely meeting with other gay people was threatened by state-condoned police action and often threats on ones life or livelihood...but Harvey Milk epitomized the life of an open and proud gay man who rose above such behaviour to become a valued member of society. I wonder if BiggDaddy0 can even begin to make such a claim?...

  • LOVEET continues his sexual fantasies.

  • That was a great speech.

  • Arnold is a homophobic racist bigot, prop 8 was largely his fault, since he twice vetoed marriage equality in california and if he vetoes Harvey Milk day it will be further proof that he is the wrong person to serve california.

  • wow youre a disgusting human being. and FYI, anyone can get HIV, diseases dont discriminate (which makes them more human than you). and its not just your state there are plenty of LGBT people who live there.

  • Never, huh? Wow....I guess you dropped the ball on that one...the governor just passed it. ^_^

  • It is my understanding from an old news article that a gay millionaire was a "mentor" to Arnold during his teen years and that Arnold spent quite a bit of time at the older gentleman's home...

  • YES! This video is amazing.

  • Keep fighting!

  • Dustin Lance Black is a very well spoken advocate and I would like to thank him for all he's done and all he's continuing to do.

  • This brings to tears for there is so much truth behind his blessed words. I am so very happy to know that this bill passed. Give 'em hope!

  • Absolutely!!! Let's get this done!

  • very moving, hope it passes like he says, cost state nothing, but many youth lives if its not past.

  • made me cry.

  • Simply breathtaking.

  • "amazing" is a word I see too many times on comments, but I have to say the witnessing and testimony that took place was indeed AMAZING.

  • Beautifully said. Brilliant.

  • Is this gonna pass and when?

  • @myfrog,

the bill passed, but ahnold may veto it.

  • When is that happening?

  • dustin is sexy. hehe.

  • You're lame.

  • the california assembly passed the bill again yesterday (i think). it was vetoed previously by ahnold. he may veto it again because of undue pressure from the religious right. the bill is supposed to be on his desk within the next couple of days. i may be telling tales out of school, because i am not a resident of cala, but i do follow regional politics as best i can. you may want to visit the "california equality" website for better and more detailed info.

  • There are LGBT teens who attend public and private school and they should have the right to celebrate a Gay man who helped make the world a better and safer place for them.

  • we will win

  • yes you will. well, not you, but the people will.

  • @Loveet...oh yes, we will. There are already schools named for him. You've lost. You just haven't figured it out yet.

  • Homosexuals don't want equal rights, they want special rights.Homosexuals have chosen an alternative lifestyle and expect society to validate it.Average life span for a homosexual man is 43-46 years of age.Typical homosexual behavior includes regular contact with fecal matter from oneself and from sexual partners, tragically reversing several centuries of learning about cleanliness, and thus several centuries of growing lifespan.Homosexual behavior makes no more sense than playing in the toilet

  • blah blah blah ...

What part of "You've lost" didn't you understand?

We are not going back in the closet, we are not going to accept being second class citizens and for all your rants more and more people find they have no problem with gay people at all and support equal rights.People of my generation don't CARE & all have gay friends. Prop 8 passed by 2%

No one in favor of gay marriage is going to suddenly change their mind. But people who voted against it do every day.

    You've LOST.

  • The above is another example of the many ignorant and sexually-repressed people still living amongst us that are trying to drag the world back into the Dark Ages. Unfortunately neither establishing a Harvey Milk Day or any other attempt at education and enlightenment will likely help some of these hopeless people...but at least it is a start.

  • And despite the sting of hatried we read in forums like this, at least we hear their pathetic voices and are reminded who our enemies are, and what we fight against.

  • HATRED....You should use spell check it works

  • It has passed and the gov is trying to decide whether to sign it...

  • Passed meaning Harvey Milk day is gonna exist?

  • Gov can veto it, sign it, or let it become lae by doin neither.

  • AS of today, YES! The governor signed the bill.

  • Is that good?!

  • It means it's now law, we celebrate Harvey Milk Day on May 22.

  • Only in CA?

  • Well yes, but you are free to celebrate it wherever you are...it will gain recognition in more places as time goes by...

  • That's awesome. I am definitely going to take note of that. Thank you for your information. ;)
