  • plus i heard somewhere that some people noticed faster speeds with a lower multiplier instead of higher, do you have an opinion on this?

  • do you think this 4.1ghz oc would be accurate for my R3E, i7-980, gtx460, 12gb c9 2000mhz xms3?

im fairly new to oc, and im looking for someone with the same or similar system for reference. I tried copying these settings here, and boot worked (lil slow) and Prime95 failed instantly lol so i reverted back.

i have the locked i7-980 not the i7-980x so your settings will not work with mine.

you seem knowledgeable in this matter so do you think if i just went bclk 200x21 vcore 1.28 qpi 1.3 is good?

  • @SirJamesDDJ

This and the 4.5GHz OC video are EXACTLY what I'm looking for atm. I'm sick and tired of my 965XE and is planning on replacing it with a 980X.

I really appreciate you for sharing. :-)

  • Are you cooling with air or water? I am going to cool mine with a Cooler Master V10. Do you think I will be able to get it over 4 ghz 24/7?

  • We at [H]ard would be folding 24/7 on that!

  • @lehmann540 It's foldin' now, my friend :-)

  • my ram is for 1866mhz but i can only get it to 1750mhz, how did you get yours to work? mine seems to change when ever i crank up the cpu :S

  • raid boots up slower

  • i have a asus Asus P6T Deluxe LGA1366 motherboard with an Intel Core i7 920 CPU @ 2.67GHz.

when i buy my intel core i7 980x gulftown and overclock it to 4ghz will i need to flash the bios or will it be ok as they are?

  • have to had a flash the bios.

  • @MrStevenn21

Some boards may need a bios update before you can install a westmere-based cpu like the 980x or xeon version.

  • Did you build you rig from scratch or just an update from older CPU ?

In case were a brand new, how did you solve the problem of flashing bios for i7 980x ?

  • @ZaetaAzteca I had an i7-920 in there before.

  • great video james. but whats the fastest you think you can get the i7-980X overclocked to to be come stable?

  • @CaLLMeImaGinE I could get it to 4.7-4.8 by jacking the VCore to the moon. I'm thinking about knocking down to the 970 Gulfown when that comes out.

  • @SirJamesDDJ that would be murder :D thanks for the info james.

  • Im confused. So this is your 4.1ghz 24/7 setup. But it is not for gaming?

Do u lower ur clocks for gaming or what did u mean? Also for corsair dominator gt 1866mhz ram how are the settings affected?

  • @mNikke For gaming benchmarks and Vantage I run at 4.4GHz, but for 24/7 and regular gaming I use this 4.0GHz overclock.

For 1866 you'll have to knock down the mem ratio to 2:12 and also set the timings accordingly.

  • @SirJamesDDJ hey i got the hyperx 2000mhz cas 8 instead. Do you think it would be dumb to take your settings and just test prime95 for 24hours if it stays up?

Since your cpu is at 19C, though my memory does not have fans but high fins only

  • My core i7 980X 3.33Ghz to 5Ghz i am right on water cooling 20L, 4 fan speed 800 - 2,000rpm and power supply 1,000w icute so temp 10c to 15c stay by 24 hour.

    i got order soon for Ram 2x2GB 2,000Mhz 240pin :D... what u think ?

    Mad PC powerful!!! lol

  • I have corsair dominator ddr3 1600 trichannel 6gb 3x2 soon to be 12gb 6x2. I notice your settings are based on ddr3 2000 memory. What will change if Im using ddr3 1600?

  • Nvidia

  • which is better: overclocking with FSB or with multiplier, cause i got my amd 955 at 3.8ghz with x19 multiplier

  • So your getting so 480s, hey?

  • I guess you're going with some EVGA GTX480 FTWs then!?! Cool deal. How long till you get them. ;)

  • lol 17c !!!, great vid as always, nice oc to.

  • you still at 4.1ghz at those voltages ^^

  • I've seen one user get 4.7GHz with this with a custom watercooling setup.

  • @RKOver17 Yeah I got up to 4.8 without much screwing around, but the voltages were WAY too high for my liking

  • @SirJamesDDJ does it say on your cpu box what intel recommend as max cpu voltage? something like 1.4?

  • @RKOver17 No nothing like that. So long as you can keep it cool, a bit over 1.4 is fine. I wouldn't use a 24/7 for that though

  • Wow nice VCore Great job ;)

  • Can I completely image your bios for my intel 960. Or is 980X bios different and all. thx in advance James

  • lol Your new camera actually picks up the interlacing on your monitor. I've never seen interlacing show up on an lcd like that. Strange. Maybe it's due to the badassery of the camera.

  • @Kordan9090 Yeah I gotta muck around with the focusing on this thing too. Even though it's off auto focus it still wigs out on me time to time.

  • 980X just blows everything on its path. Compare this beast to my CULV SU4100 @ 1.3GHz in my lappy :P Didn't think so... Anyways, great videos m8. Respect!

  • @xbsoft Thanks bro! Oooh I'd sure love a crack at comparing with that 1.3GHz beast someday!!!

  • nice, thats what I call thorough.

  • @SiaSound Thank you I certainly hope so

  • one word youre new friends would be the Fermi ^^

Nice video again man and nice temps and clock, runs fast man.

  • Hey Sir James, go to run, msconfig and check the box that says turn off the GUI on boot and lower the timer as well. :)

  • @stryeker No GUI Boot just removes the flower, it doesn't speed up the actual boot

  • your limits are like 240 for your base clock.....

  • awesome!!!

  • *Drools*

Amazing PC you got there bud.

  • Damn man anything over 4GHz is insane. Think I'll stick with my core i5 at 3.8GHz but damn nothing but respect for you :D

  • Hehe good ending dude. I will stay tuned :)

  • That's some really nice overclocking there bro, got to give you props for that. Can't wait till more of your vids come out!

  • Not gonna lie im pretty jealous of your system and you've got me pretty pumped to see what your plans are for the month!

  • @Skunk2K20 I'm here to pump *clap* you up!

  • great vid, i hate to say this but i tink ur getting fermi cards. why did u sell ur 5870 in the 1st place?

anyway, u could turn down the fans a bit in ur vids

  • @aloysius444 Drivers, drivers, drivers. Made $60 on each card sold though so I'm not cryin'.

    Could be Fermi.

Maybe next vid I'll knock the fans down to 60% each if that'd help.

  • Another one great video.

glad cpu works overclocked at 1.25v. It so much better then the 1.35+ ones especially temp wise...

and 19c at idle wow man ...

    5* !

  • @b0ss6769 Thank you Steph. Hope people can use these settings to extend their processor's life as well.

  • @SirJamesDDJ

Sure , this is really helpful for people as ive seen vids using the 980x running at 1.4xx volt to reach 4.something GHz which kind of ridiculous if you take into consideration itstechnology and die size ;)

  • Good video as usual, buddy. Keep em' coming!

  • @jdookie2908 Thanks JD!
