if i were going for all out performance i would get a turbo swap .......but an h6 swap is a nice thing because n/as are more reliable than a turbo .........they get better gas milage ......and you dont have to pay for premium .......
i would do this to have a fun ....practical.......reliable(eg33s r bulletproof from what i hear) and economical blend of a car ... my $0.02
does anyone know if it is as easy with the newer impreza's to do the H6 swap. say on an my05 rs with a 2.5 . i am guessing you would need to swap engine , loom, clutch, gearbox plus other small things. am i wrong or right.
@donvitolover182 You clearly have no idea what kind of ingenuity is needed for a swap like this. I believe this car was on a forum somewhere... maybe NASIOC, and they turned this into a racecar. If the engine is an EG33. then they either have to hybrid the wiring, or redo the wiring all together, and relocate the radiator & fans to fit the motor. And, as 2jz said, if the engine was an EZ, you would absolutely have to re-wire everything, which is far from a weekend job. GTFO
@tallcoreyc any subaru transmission will bolt right up to the EG33. But you need to ask yourself the following questions; what gear ratio you want, 5 or 6 speed or auto, what type of racing will you be doing, whats your power goal, will you be building the internals, dog mesh or syncromesh gears, and is it your daily or a full track car or something in between? After you know those answers then you can choose for yourself. For now just stick with what you've got and LATER choose if you want more
@kohn1988 wrong. I know a guy who swapped an EG33 into his legacy with a FWD 5 speed. look it up on nasioc, its a 94 legacy with an eg33 swapped in. unfortunately his 6th injector got stuck open and it went up in flames
@supradave9 The H6 engine came from the legendary SVX, only produced from 92 to 97, mines a 92, and considering there were only abut 14000 sold in that time frame, its kinda hard to find one in good condition
@v67oldstyle they are only similar in that they have 6 cylinders. The EG is an EJ22 with 2 more cylinders. The EZ is built from scratch. Both GREAT motors with outrageous potential! Only problem is the EZ is a wiring nightmare! But once you get it figured out.....well look at the Perrin STi....enough said. Pretty much engine choice is all personal preference, but either way you'll have an unstoppable monster!
Used to got an 02 Wrx stage 2....raced my friends mid 90's Impreza L with H6 swap...we hit it from a 40mph roll.....his L was SIDE-BY-SIDE with me alllllllllllll the way to 90mph. I only beat him half a car length bc of my shifting. That impreza L with H6 is NO JOKE if you ask me. I was impressed.
i dont wanna sound like an idiot but what is an h6? n how do i get one lol...i was an acura guy and i just happen to com across a 93 impreza L and fell in love with subies. i ditched acura completly. i need help with info. i hate bein passionate about a car and not being able to find info on them . help
H6 or Eg33 is from an Subaru Svx. Swap requires wiring harnesses merged, H6 engine drops right in, and readiator placement. I am almost complete with my swap in my 99 Legacy GT.
All of you guys that keep saying swap in an ej20 or ej25 are idiots. An Sti swap can cost as much as 8 GRAND and a wrx swap isn't much cheaper. The EG33 can hybrid wire into the stock L or RS wiring (no need for a full ecu/harness swap) and you can pick up a low mileage FULLY ASSEMBLED engine for barely 800 bucks! It takes less time and 1/3 the cost of an sti swap. Check out Rigoli. There's a reason he stepped UP to the EG33 FROM the EJ20. Next time do your research.
Why not just buy an SVX with a blown trans for $500-$800 then part it out for 1500 and send the remains to the junk yard, for another 150 bucks, after you've pulled what you want out of it?(i.e. engine, bulk harness, exhaust, etc) I don't know about you but I prefer to MAKE money on my swap.
How do you 'hybrid wire' a 6 cylinder into a 4 cylinder harness? Use the old EGR solinoid and purge ect wires for the 2 extra injectors and 2 extra coils I assume.
@2jzgte21 I guess it depends where you live... BUT an sti swap where i live can be done for the price of an engine an ecu (which if the right version will plug right in to factory wiring) I can pickup a decent sti engine for less than 2000$ USD an that would be a v7+ engine possibly with a vf series turbo... not to say it would be better than the ez30 but 8k? lol for 8k I could forge a block an get a new turbo with link probably put out similar hp thats more usable thats of course IMO
Doin the EG33 swap into a GF8. "No replacement for displacement" for sure. My next one will be a EZ30 or EZ36 with a Mazda Milenia S/charger in my 2001 Forester. Enough with these overstressed 4 bangers!!!!!
@2jzgte21 If you have to pass emissions inspection, it might be impossible to drop a 3.3 into an Impreza or Legacy chassis. The SVX was rare, and the vast majority were made in 1991-1995, and all of them are OBD-I, if you can find a 1996 or 1997, you can get an OBD-II. You'll need OBD-II to be able to pass emissions.
If you have a 1995 or older chassis, then have at it, and have fun.
As for a WRX swap costing 8 grand... I'm going to build a 2.15 liter stroker for less than that. o.O
@2jzgte21 dude if you did your research you'd kno you can do a full wrx swap with 2 grand. you can on the cheap turbo a 22.2 block wch is the best block subaru made for 1000
A full WRX swap isn't 2 grand. It's along the neighborhood of $4k/$5k for a good clean swap w/initial tuning. Even if you turbo a 2.2 block, you would still be down on time compared to an EG33, which just drops right in & bolts right up. You'd just need to figure out the wiring. You're also not getting the potential of the EG33, which is based off of the 2.2 that you have mentioned. This engine is a superior swap compared to an EJ205 swap or EJ22 build.
Umm....Where in this vid does it say VW or anything other than H6? And secondly, to the post below mine, you are a newb. Yes you can make 450+hp on an ej, but the USDM motors are very expensive, and there is no replacement for displacement except for more boost.......and eventual engine failure.
i would have to slightly disagree with you on that speed. If you know anything about the jdm 2.0 sti motors you should know they ARE a replacement for displacement.
JDM STi 2.0 engines lack the low end torque that the 2.5s do, but luckily, I have a quick revving engine with a 4.44 FD tranny; so it will be pretty quick.
@in0neday that saying is actually still true. it means if you turbo a engin with more displacement you are going to make more power. turbo h4 compaired to turbo h6? what do you think would win? congrats on misunderstanding the expresion.
lol.. waste of money?? or maybe u blew ur engine an had this lieing around.either way its retarded lol.ej20 are mint engines an capable of huge HP upto 450hp on high boost.. can get more but not without going to ej25 which is not the standard engine
