I actually JUST used an AKG d112 for a floor tom today. I liked it. I found myself pulling it back of the drum a bit but you definitely get that low end resonance. I would have liked more attack but I think the overheads will take care of what is lacking there.
Stop me if i'm wrong but i'd us an AKG kick mic for the floor tom. I mean the kind of tom sounds i like are the low end booming type. I prefer the kick to be cut so i tend to gate the hell out of it.

I have four of these. They are by far the best tom mic I have ever heard. They are also surprisingly good on snare. I like them as much as an SM57.

@rawrgrr4298 a sound engineer i know says thats the best way to mic a floor tom...with a kick mic

i agree, you cant really use the same close-mic technique on a 421 as you can with a clip on or other mics.
i use a 421 on the batter side of my bass drum, it's a good mic, i'm wanting to couple it with a RE-20 :)
