I'm not a personal trainer, but partial deadlifts eliminate major involvment of the quads, so it puts more stress on the lower back. Good way to target the lower back, almost like doing goodmornings.
I had some upper llumbar pain, it was i was bulging a disc and i recently have started regular deads and it no longer have any back pain. not saying it will cure yours but justa thought.
ONLY WIMPS DO DEADLIFTS IN THE SMITH MACHINE. USE A NORMAL BARBELL BUDDY

I do these and call them partial dead lifts. My friend calls them rack pulls.
