I have seen single payer up close in canada- it's not what you people think- it's rationing, plain and simple...ANY hospital that takes federal funds (medicare,etc) by law has to treat hhomever shows at their door- this makes much of the arguement for singlepayor a joke as well as a lie!

yes! any hospital that takes federal funds must see whoever shows at the door- regardless of ability to pay. The big question is how then does the bill get paid? currently, you are sent a bill and the hospital/provider tries to collect on it... the issue is not access to healthcare, rather the financing of same. For those who do not have insurance, offer a bare bones program. for the rest of us, LEAVE US ALONE!  Don't mess with MY LIFE!

Single-Payer is similar to what Medicare provides, and while I would desperately appreciate what they offer now, eventually I would like a little better care. (cheap glasses, one visit a year etc.) How are you bothered by everything being single payer? Your present doctor would have to accept the medicaid card or else you would have to find another way to pay him/her. I think most doctors will accept the card when they realize that charging more will lose patients.

nohealthcare62, PLEASE call an attorney who specializes in SSI. One who charges no fee unless you win. The attorney can get ahold of medical records we common folk aren't given free access to. AND get help for you faster.

You have to apply for Social Security Disability and an SSI application is automatically filed with it. AND an attorney will do the fighting FOR you as well.

Good for them. My wife has breast cancer, spread to the brain and a few months to live. She worked for the State and they denied her disability, and tried to cancel her life and health insurance even though she paid premiums. Nice going, sleep well insurance companies and criminals.

I am so proud of Americans who fight for healthcare not warfare---kudos to everyone of them. I worked for the healthcare system and doctors and nurses work so hard, long hours, tight restrictions---they have a hard job! We need more doctors, more schools for doctors--we need more RNS and they should be getting the profits that the insurance companies are getting.

It was an amazing day and I was proud to be there - hundreds of nurses from several different unions coming together to advocate for our patients - the role that is really our highest calling as RNs. It's clear that the powers that be - in both parties - want to bury single payer. It's just too threatening to too many big money interests. It will take continued agitation to keep it in the discussion.
