@nivedmodo According to my testing, 6mm Matrix .3 gram bb's provide the best accuracy out of any other pellet ranging from .12-.30 I have tested. .25 gram bb's performed exceptionally bad in the WELL L96 rifle. .3 gram bb's offer a better ballistic coefficient which yields reduced wind deflection and a better maximum range, during testing, I have hit member Edge at 103 yards measured with a laser rangefinder with the Matrix .3 gram bb's with the hop-up on 80% pressure.
@TeamShadowOps interesting i was just looking at the drop of the bullet in the video. i've never tried matrix bb's but i will just to compare them to goldenball bb's. i love them, it improved my mb06's grouping at a distance 75 ft to be in a circle with a diameter of only 4 inches
@DJdude250 I used to be in competition shooting when I was a bit younger and if you want to become "steadier" do three things, build muscle, practice your form, and avoid caffeinated beverages :) When I did these three things in conjunction I got some very nice results. If anyone ever tries to tell you when to hold your breath don't listen to them, just hold your breath whenever you are comfortable, filled lungs, half filled, whatever!
Also if someone tells you to squeeze the trigger don't listen to them, you squeeze a bottle of ketchup, not a trigger, you pull a trigger. I've been pulling the trigger for about five years now and I shoot hole in hole groups at 10 meters prone with an airgun. Just pull it slowly and uniformly and make sure it's at a set weight that you are comfortable with. Any more questions just let me know, I'd be glad to answer them!
@gnomernoms You must consider the bb's total trajectory of 64 yards, and with the scope zoomed in the distance traveled looks much smaller, which in turn makes the bb look slow. In reality the bb has a muzzle velocity of 390 ft/s with a .30 gram bb, which is definitely no slack ;)
@cronomono Give me one reason not to sir, just because you don't understand how to tune hop-up correctly doesn't give you the right to down it. Hop-up is very beneficial if applied correctly. There would be no way I could have made this shot as easy as I did without the use of hop-up. I don't enjoy how hop-up lengthens the TOF significantly, but it does help airsoft projectiles poor ballistics greatly!
now iv never sniped before, it looked like the bb was off a little, and thats the stock scope that comes with it! holy crap. i am going to buy this for easter, now i know what im definetly getting this
One thing you have to realize about airsoft is that a large percentage of your shots will never be dead on the crosshair's, were not talking about actual firearms here. Ballistically, airsoft poses many unique problems due to the form factor of the spherical projectile and the sub sonic velocities. Although I would recommend buying the JG-BAR 10 instead. Although if your dead set on the Well L96, buy it and don't look back.
@d3boy2002 It all depends on the consistency and quality of the ammo and the rifle. I own a Smart Parts Ion Pro with a freak barrel and it is incredibly accurate when using the right balls.
I personally never held a Well MB05. Although it has the same has the same action and barrel as the Well L96, but a different stock. So i'm guessing it would match the performance of the Well L96, which is pretty good for the money.
why carry a long barrel, huge sniper rifle. All important factors are the same. You could use pretty much any small gun, because most of them can be modded to get the same FPS, some of them don't even need modding?
Ft/s or what you ignorant people call "FPS" is not an important factor to an extent. There are several other factors that are much more important than the ones you mentioned that are basically exclusive to airsoft "sniper rifles". You said, "why carry a long barrel, huge sniper rifle. The long barrel is one of the most important factors in itself when it comes to airsoft. First of all the long barrel allows the projectile to become more aligned relative to the bore, which-
obviously, in turn, increases accuracy. The longer barrel, to an extent, protects the projectile from erratic gases produced from the spring, so the gases dwindle to a small amount prior to the projectile exits the muzzle. The longer barrel also protects the bb, once again to an extent, protects the projectile from atmospheric conditions, such as wind. So if you take away the long barrel, all the factors left, to an extent, are the original ones you stated above.
To complete my first statement regarding ft/s, ft/s should not come as ones number one factor in choosing their airsoft rifle. What is the point of having, for example, a rifle that can produce 500 ft/s with a .3 gram bb at the muzzle if they can not obtain respectable minute of torso accuracy out to 65 yards? My own airsoft rifle shoots a mere 350 ft/s with a .3 gram bb, but it is usually 3/4 minute of torso accuracy out to 65 yards.
after about eight inches, the length of the barrel has negligible accuracy advantages...not sure how true it is. too many factors in airsoft to really compare dif types of guns. things that help are
-quality + weight of bb
-diameter of barrel
-consistency/durability of hop-up
snipers usually remain the best because of the combination of heavy bbs, and high fps. meaning the bb gets to the target faster w/ more accuracy while keepn low profile.
There are simply way too many variables to account for the optimum barrel length for obtaining best accuracy, I can tell you that whoever told you 8" is the proper barrel length is pretty ignorant to internal ballistics. I could sit here all day and talk to you about why the optimum length is not 8", if you want me too just PM me. Let's put it this way the barrels optimum length is directly proportional to the amount of air released by the rifles power plant at the muzzle.
Also you said, "meaning the bb gets to the target faster". This doesn't matter for wind deflection, the wind only affects the lag time of the projectile which means since the heavier projectile (being of same form factor and diameter) has a higher ballistic coefficient, the projectile lags less in an atmosphere compared the projectiles time of flight in a vacuum. The heavier bb's take longer to get there, but they have less wind deflection due to a shorter lag time
i know fps means ft/s...i'm a mechanical engineer. Erattic gases sound interesting....but i don't buy into the atmospheric "protection"...nor do i buy into "more aligned relative to the bore"..that's merely a cross-sectional clearance issue.
isn't the point of long barrels on real guns, to accelerate the bullet while it's in the barrel and the gas is expanding? But this doesn't apply here when you have comparable momentums with out the need for long barrel.
i can see only your point on erratic gases...it would be interesting to look at a exit muzzle fluid study, with different barrel lengths to see if there is a how bit of a difference there is in pressure gradient. Since long barrels will have less pressure in them just as the bullet exists
Very good, at least now I know I'm talking to someone who is as far as I know pretty intelligent and not just some ignoramus who thinks he knows what he's talking about. We'll start with the erratic gases, you can have as much high pressure as you want behind the projectile as long as it leaves the muzzle straight and even. This is where theres a problem, in airsoft, the projectiles do not swage to the rifling as does an actual firearm.
So this means as the projectile leaves the muzzle, it will be uneven on one side, so since there are still gases pushing the projectile, the projectile will not be pushed perfectly straight in alignment with the barrel. Secondly atmospheric protection, wind deflects the projectile the most at the muzzle of the gun because the wind will misalign the backspin to a small extent which will give it a new spin relative to the wind direction.
Thirdly the projectile being aligned relative to the barrel. I study and know much more about actual firearms ballistics, but airsoft is fun due to its own unique problems. Anyways in actual firearms as soon as the powder ignites the bullet is pushed through the barrel, as soon as the bullet begins to be pushed it starts an action called the yaw of repose, these means the projectile starts to actually yaw and wobble during the beginning and eventually straighten out.
With a longer barrel the bullet has more time in the barrel which helps protect against the yaw of repose and leaves the bore with less radial movement. Although spherical projectiles are much different from elongated bullets, I believe they are similar in internal dynamics. And yes, the long barrels on real guns are so that the expanding gases are not wasted and the projectile gains more velocity. Maybe we should start PM'ing, this is taking up a lot of room =P
This is a spring airsoft rifle, and please stop spamming the comment box, just leave one comment and i'll get back to you. If you somehow don't reach me with the comment box either it was a very stupid question or I am busy, so just PM me.
great great, umm look a maruzen shooting (chronoed) exactly 500 fps consistently with .20 gram bbs what would you say the range of the gun would be? just any guess or idea also is it quieter than the well l96? thanx
Contradictory from ignorant "airsoft snipers" rule of thumb "lighter bb's more range, heavier bb's more accuracy", I will tell you as a certified sharpshooter and hardcore projectile ballistics enthusiast that according to a constant form factor of a spherical projectile an increase of weight will raise the sectional density which will in turn raise the ballistic coefficient, which means to achieve the maximum distance a heavier bb will be needed, not a lighter one.
Consistent with my statement above, your proposal of what would be the maximum range be of a Maruzen that shoots .2 gram bb's at 500 ft/s would be obsolete if one would be looking for the optimum load that provides best overall maximum range performance. To achieve maximum overall performance I would highly recommend Matrix .3 gram bb's. I mic'd 100 bb's and they are all within 0.002" from each other.
As for which rifle is quieter? I honestly couldn't give you a 100% exact answer. There are simply to many variables to consider when deciding such a thing, if I had to guess it would involve the length and hardness of the spring and the length of the barrel, so I would maybe say the Maruzen, although from my experiences with the Well L96, they would be very close.
one more question and thanx you are really helping me out. youve heard of the PDi tightbore barrel right? how many mm is it? like what millimeter barrel do thet offer? also is a maruzen aps type 96 better than the well l96? in stock form? thanx
Yes, I have heard of the PDI tightbore, although PDI makes several different diameters of tightbores that range from 6.01 to 6.05mm, I recommend the 6.01mm, although you may hear different from idiots that don't understand internal ballistics, if you get the 6.01 just clean your barrel more often. Secondly, in stock form I would say the Maruzen is "better" than the Well in several aspects regarding durability and convenience to future upgrade, although the ft/s is considerably-
-lower than the Well. This is where convenience to future upgrade comes into play. The Maruzen is ready to drop in future upgrades due to higher quality parts already there compared to the Well. For example the Well would need stronger sears, etc while the Maruzen already has them. The maruzen is once again ready to upgrade higher kinematic tension springs, which will surpass the Well greatly. So I would save your pennies and get the Maruzen.
In this video I used 90% strength hop-up. What I do is turn hop-up all the way it will go and backtrack till it starts turning again. Although I only recommend using this high of strength hop-up with heavier bb's. If you attempt to try 90% with a .2 gram bb you will get sparratic groups and the bb's will take a sharp curve approximately 10 yards from the muzzle.
No, its just that my particular airsoft rifle liked this load which means it gave me the best accuracy and distance. The amount of hop-up to use is proportional to its velocity to achieve best long distance accuracy and distance. The faster the bb travels the less hop-up you need, and vice versa, the slower it goes the more hop-up you need.
Although the scope that came with the rifle is more than adequate for airsoft accuracy, I personally like a Leapers scope for air rifles or airsoft. Trust me, I know optics, I have two scopes for my actual rifles, one costing $500 and one costing $950. If I were you I would just try to find the scope that comes with the Well sniper rifles, I would tell you but there is no name on the scope.
i just got my well l96. when i take the allen wrench and move it clockwise, barrel facing out, the bb doesent curve up. i change it counter clockwise it seems the same. am i doing it wrong? im using .2s. what should i use?
If you wanna be proficient I would recommend a more accurate airsoft rifle, such as the Tokyo Marui G-Spec. I could easily outshoot the TSD L96's accuracy even while standing.
I don't believe buying a tightbore barrel would be worth it, my rifle can hit torso sized targets out to 70 yards and I can put five shots in a .32" group at 10 meters prone. Also this was just basically a starter rifle, I am moving up to a KWA M4A1 very soon, then I may buy a tightbore.
I actually successfully hit a target that was 92 yards away with my L96 using .3 gram bb's with 90% strength hop-up, but I also used a healthy dose of compensation. Although the maximum effective range with this load is around 65 yards.
I have the AGM L96 and it shoots ok with the .28s but sometimes it goes way up or goes to the left or the right. I am going to buy this week some .30s to see how it goes. Btw, at 15 secs the gitl says fuck yeah, lol...
Dialate my scope? I believe the correct terminology would either be calibrate or the more commonly term, "sight in". Secondly the reason I have my rifle hitting high is so that I don't need to compensate for slightly longer ranges. Lastly you should really work on your grammatical skills.
I actually used no mounting rig in this video, I just rested the gun on my knee and held the camera in front of the scope. It was tough but it was well worth it!
I'm using .28s for my L96: but for some reason I can't ever get the gun to fire consistently. It would curve left-right randomly and worst of all: the gun always fires "upward" even when I have the hop-up turned down all the way.
Is my bucking bad? Or do I need some silicon spray?
My gun hates .28's for some reason. And although opponents couldn't see them, why would I want to change ammo when I can hit a 70 yard target regularly and shoot 1/4" groups at 10 meters with ease?
hey this is to team shadow ops i have this same gun but i use 25s and it curves a lot well a decent amount eknef to make it inacurate but would the bbs you use iprove it
I would highly recommend Matrix .3's, they are the highest quality bb you will find. I personally tried .25's in my L96 and they shot erratically. So buy Matrix .3's you won't be disappointed.
P.S. I shot a .26" group at 10m with these bb's in my L96 ;)
Matrix makes the highest quality bb's hands down. I tried KSC perfects and many other brands, but they cannot bear the consistency and price of the Matrix brand. Try them you will not be disappointed! Shoot Straight!
Yes, Maruzen Grandmasters are an excellent bb, although the price of them is a big drawback. Matrix bb is #1 in my book for affordability and performance. Shoot Straight!
I tried KSC high polished (perfects) and the Matrix bb's blew them away. Matrix bb's are also a lot cheaper. You can not go wrong with these bb's! Try them and you will never go back.
Any scope would work, the scope shown in this video is 3-9x40mm. And depending on what gun your using I would recommend using heavier BBs in a sniper rifle to increase accuracy.
Please try to post future comments on the videos on our new name GhostsofWarAirsoft, thanks!
We have changed our name to GhostsofWarAirsoft. Take a look at that name to see the most recent and older videos that GOW(TeamShadowOps)have recorded.
You see the BB fly up because it is sighted in for a longer range. I think there is an illusion of the BB flying left because the gun shifted after Ace shot. Hope that helps.
very nice thats what i want my SR-25 to shoot like, i need some .3 bbs because im pretty sure that is what makes the difference my gn is just a tad less powerfull than urs at 460 so i should be able to do the same at about 55 yards i would think
You can say that again! By the way I did this without making a rig to hold the scope, I held the camera by hand. Truthfully it took my about 10 attempts to get everything right. I normally hold the gun much stiller but like I said I was multi-tasking: Trying to talk, press buttons on the camera, hold the camera still, hold the gun still, and make sure the bb hit the target.
Yeah I put the fore-grip of the gun on the window, the stock on my knee and I leaned sitting down against my bed. Anyways, yeah your right it is a very powerful rifle! When it is hot outside I can get it to shoot through a can full of water or 2 empty cans. It will make you bleed if you are shot close enough with it. If you have any questions about this rifle please ask, I know everything about it and tricks to use with it.
I shot Rane014 from approximately 6 yards to the center of the back. His response was rolling on the ground grunting in pain, later he had a bloody welt. Although I took some painful hits with his custom suppressed Well VSR-10 (MB-02).
I measured this distance with my Bushnell Legend Laser Rangefinder, it can measure up to 950 yards. I use it for all my long range airsoft shooting. Today I made a 97 Yard shot with my Well L96, but it took me a few shots. The compensation I had to do was insane !
Yeah but the thing is your never dead on with an airsoft sniper rifle at long ranges. So if you can hit a torso at 64 yards, thats good. Plus anything could have affected that bb in its long flight to the tree: Wind, slight imperfections in the bb, SD. It also hit like that except more to the right and higher, it aint like this shot was consistent, but it still hit the tree.
so your target comes in at about 192 feet. And you're using .3 grams bb's. Very nice. Any idea on FPS? The gun clocks in at about 430 with .25, so is it safe to say you're getting 385-390 fps with a .3 gram?
I recently got a chronograph and I am getting 365 fps average with hop-up turned 3/4 the way up. But im sure if I wanted more fps for who knows reason I could turn the hop-up down and probably get close to 400 fps.
I got 365 fps using .3 gram bb's with alot of hop-up. The reason I use that much hop-up is because I can hit targets out to 60 yards without compensating at all.
If you had a better scope you could easily be a one shot kill if you record your shots and give them values according to distance and wind. With my hop up at 45% i dont have to compensate up to 86 yards but after that i gotta start aiming up and then if further then i have to zoom out and aim up even more
Dang that sounds like a pretty powerful gun to have a maximum point blank range of 86 yards ! What kind of gun do you have and fps ? I find this scope adequate for how much I play airsoft. I am more into actual guns though. I have a $900 scope on my .300 Weatherby Magnum and it is crystal clear. It is a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 Mil-Dot W/ side focus. I will hopefully get out to past 800 yards with it real soon. Once I start learning how to control my flinch better !
I have a Maruzen un upgraded except i took out the stock spring of the L96 (clone) and stuck in it that rifle for better range fps... so on so forth. I adjusted my hop to be a "HILL" hop instead of a "H" hop which is what the clone shoots stock. I sanded the piston down and cut grooves to make it lighter and put in a bicycle tube cap as a spring tensioner and upgraded the stock barrel with a DBC 6.01 until i can get a pdi or Edgi barrel. My scope is the Leapers 3-9x50... I have a vid on upgrades
is airsoft worth getting into????

great great, umm look a maruzen shooting (chronoed) exactly 500 fps consistently with .20 gram bbs what would you say the range of the gun would be? just any guess or idea also is it quieter than the well l96? thanx
jeremielibraty7 2 years ago

There are simply to many variables to consider when deciding such a thing, if I had to guess it would involve the length and hardness of the spring and the length of the barrel, so I would maybe say the Maruzen, although from my experiences with the Well L96, they would be very close.

one more question and thanx you are really helping me out. youve heard of the PDi tightbore barrel right? how many mm is it? like what millimeter barrel do thet offer? also is a maruzen aps type 96 better than the well l96? in stock form? thanx
jeremielibraty7 2 years ago
Yes, I have heard of the PDI tightbore, although PDI makes several different diameters of tightbores that range from 6.01 to 6.05mm, I recommend the 6.01mm, although you may hear different from idiots that don't understand internal ballistics, if you get the 6.01 just clean your barrel more often. Secondly, in stock form I would say the Maruzen is "better" than the Well in several aspects regarding durability and convenience to future upgrade, although the ft/s is considerably-

TeamShadowOps 2 years ago

-lower than the Well. This is where convenience to future upgrade comes into play. The Maruzen is ready to drop in future upgrades due to higher quality parts already there compared to the Well. For example the Well would need stronger sears, etc while the Maruzen already has them. The maruzen is once again ready to upgrade higher kinematic tension springs, which will surpass the Well greatly. So I would save your pennies and get the Maruzen.

hey umm in this vid about how much hop-up did you use?
jeremielibraty7 2 years ago
In this video I used 90% strength hop-up. What I do is turn hop-up all the way it will go and backtrack till it starts turning again. Although I only recommend using this high of strength hop-up with heavier bb's. If you attempt to try 90% with a .2 gram bb you will get sparratic groups and the bb's will take a sharp curve approximately 10 yards from the muzzle.
Braxton
TeamShadowOps 2 years ago
oh wow so for .30 gram bbs do get it up to the crosshairs you need about 90 percent hop-up?
jeremielibraty7 2 years ago
No, its just that my particular airsoft rifle liked this load which means it gave me the best accuracy and distance. The amount of hop-up to use is proportional to its velocity to achieve best long distance accuracy and distance. The faster the bb travels the less hop-up you need, and vice versa, the slower it goes the more hop-up you need.

what kind of scope is that?
i want to get a good cheap scope for my gun and my budget is like 30-50 $. got any recommendations?
SMITHERSTHEMAGICIAN 2 years ago
Although the scope that came with the rifle is more than adequate for airsoft accuracy, I personally like a Leapers scope for air rifles or airsoft. Trust me, I know optics, I have two scopes for my actual rifles, one costing $500 and one costing $950. If I were you I would just try to find the scope that comes with the Well sniper rifles, I would tell you but there is no name on the scope.

i just got my well l96. when i take the allen wrench and move it clockwise, barrel facing out, the bb doesent curve up. i change it counter clockwise it seems the same. am i doing it wrong? im using .2s. what should i use?
xTheMythTheLegendx 2 years ago
If you wanna be proficient I would recommend a more accurate airsoft rifle, such as the Tokyo Marui G-Spec. I could easily outshoot the TSD L96's accuracy even while standing.
-GOW SniperAce

I don't believe buying a tightbore barrel would be worth it, my rifle can hit torso sized targets out to 70 yards and I can put five shots in a .32" group at 10 meters prone. Also this was just basically a starter rifle, I am moving up to a KWA M4A1 very soon, then I may buy a tightbore.

waz the maximum range fro a sniper .3 gram
AmericansSexualPreds 2 years ago
I actually successfully hit a target that was 92 yards away with my L96 using .3 gram bb's with 90% strength hop-up, but I also used a healthy dose of compensation. Although the maximum effective range with this load is around 65 yards.
-GOW SniperAce

yah but if u increase the FPS to like 550 probably u dont ned much compensation

Of course you wouldn't, but I'm only getting 350 ft/s with .3 gram bb's.

xWHOPPERxJRx 2 years ago
Dialate my scope? I believe the correct terminology would either be calibrate or the more commonly term, "sight in". Secondly the reason I have my rifle hitting high is so that I don't need to compensate for slightly longer ranges. Lastly you should really work on your grammatical skills.

I'm using .28s for my L96: but for some reason I can't ever get the gun to fire consistently. It would curve left-right randomly and worst of all: the gun always fires "upward" even when I have the hop-up turned down all the way.
Is my bucking bad? Or do I need some silicon spray?
FSTK 2 years ago
My gun hates .28's for some reason. And although opponents couldn't see them, why would I want to change ammo when I can hit a 70 yard target regularly and shoot 1/4" groups at 10 meters with ease?

I would highly recommend Matrix .3's, they are the highest quality bb you will find. I personally tried .25's in my L96 and they shot erratically. So buy Matrix .3's you won't be disappointed.
P.S. I shot a .26" group at 10m with these bb's in my L96 ;)

what size scope do u recomend for .20 gram bb's, would 3x9 work?
airsoft1214 3 years ago
Any scope would work, the scope shown in this video is 3-9x40mm. And depending on what gun your using I would recommend using heavier BBs in a sniper rifle to increase accuracy.

You see the BB fly up because it is sighted in for a longer range. I think there is an illusion of the BB flying left because the gun shifted after Ace shot. Hope that helps.

nice, its a bitch when it comes to cameras and holding it at the right spot with the scopes
pattyricks18 3 years ago
You can say that again! By the way I did this without making a rig to hold the scope, I held the camera by hand. Truthfully it took my about 10 attempts to get everything right. I normally hold the gun much stiller but like I said I was multi-tasking: Trying to talk, press buttons on the camera, hold the camera still, hold the gun still, and make sure the bb hit the target.
-TSO Member SniperAce
TeamShadowOps 3 years ago
dam no rig that's impressive. I love to do scopes in vids and pics but its just balls to get it right. BTW that's a really powerful rifle you have
pattyricks18 3 years ago
Yeah I put the fore-grip of the gun on the window, the stock on my knee and I leaned sitting down against my bed. Anyways, yeah your right it is a very powerful rifle! When it is hot outside I can get it to shoot through a can full of water or 2 empty cans. It will make you bleed if you are shot close enough with it. If you have any questions about this rifle please ask, I know everything about it and tricks to use with it.

I measured this distance with my Bushnell Legend Laser Rangefinder, it can measure up to 950 yards. I use it for all my long range airsoft shooting. Today I made a 97 Yard shot with my Well L96, but it took me a few shots. The compensation I had to do was insane !

elevation down two, windage right one.
takotsu 3 years ago
Yeah but the thing is your never dead on with an airsoft sniper rifle at long ranges. So if you can hit a torso at 64 yards, thats good. Plus anything could have affected that bb in its long flight to the tree: Wind, slight imperfections in the bb, SD. It also hit like that except more to the right and higher, it aint like this shot was consistent, but it still hit the tree.

BullCrap4248 3 years ago
so your target comes in at about 192 feet. And you're using .3 grams bb's. Very nice. Any idea on FPS? The gun clocks in at about 430 with .25, so is it safe to say you're getting 385-390 fps with a .3 gram?
dbrownick 3 years ago
I recently got a chronograph and I am getting 365 fps average with hop-up turned 3/4 the way up. But im sure if I wanted more fps for who knows reason I could turn the hop-up down and probably get close to 400 fps.
SniperAce016 3 years ago
mine shot 400 fps flat wit and without hop up.
shinjaclan 3 years ago
I got 365 fps using .3 gram bb's with alot of hop-up. The reason I use that much hop-up is because I can hit targets out to 60 yards without compensating at all.
-TSO Member Ace
TeamShadowOps 3 years ago
If you had a better scope you could easily be a one shot kill if you record your shots and give them values according to distance and wind. With my hop up at 45% i dont have to compensate up to 86 yards but after that i gotta start aiming up and then if further then i have to zoom out and aim up even more
Masahiro121 3 years ago
