It is so funny to hear all of you babbel about denomination, who is better, who is like this church or that church. FYI, COGIC might be the largest African-American Pentecostal Denomination, but it is not the oldest. The United Holy Church of America is the oldest pentecostal denomination. It was around long before Azusa St. had it's first street sign posted! Founded in 1886 as a denomination, with it's first and oldest church being Providence United Holy Church in Raleigh, NC founded 1882!

The Catholic church proclaims to be the foundation of all Christian denomontions. Jesus was Jewish. His disciples were from various decent and backgrounds. To limit God/Jesus to one denomonation or being, "first, " or whatever it is you're trying to say...is primordial in thought. What does it matter if one specific Christian denomonation was first or last...the purpose for all of us..is to live as God would want us to live..and meet him in heaven!

Wwow looking @ this reminds me of the Roman Catholic church is the COGIC part of it? Because THey wear the colors crosses shirts n collars and i've seen vids with the shepherd's staff Bisop rings from the Catholic church in our churches. Info: Is the Grand ole C.O.G.I.C. part of the Holy Roman Catholic Church? Being of the similarities in worship, business, burial, vestments, college, diocese, successors. I know of a few diff religions that broke off from the Catholic church. She considers them daughters, Like the name catholic means all-embracing, general universal, Being the Vatican feels it's the parent church and all others come from them BC the Pope is the direct successor of Peter. Well saying that COGIC stems from the Roman Catholic Church is like saying that we are all descendents from Adam which true. COGIC is structured like the Methodist Episcopol church. We have District Superintendents but they use the term Presiding Elder. We call our national leader Presiding Bishop they use Senior Bishop which was the title used during the time of Bishop Mason and Bishop O.T. Jones, Sr.

OK Methodist Episcopal church was a part of the church of England and that church was a part of the catholic church. So I guess that the cogic is a daughter of the catholic church.I'm speaking about the collars, pectoral crosses, shepherd's crux, certain robe colors, the bust of bishop @ his church, the coffin (ENTOMBMENT) OF Bishop Mason in the church building, the elections. I'm saying it all looks catholic and I've never seen this in the bible. So I'm asking about the catholic church. Thanx

Yes--only in the sense of those things--but certainly not a daughter doctrine wise---we copied some of what they did because our organization did not really come up liturgically and structure wise till after '69

COGIC is the direct descendent of the Baptist Church. The Catholic Church can be said to have started as early as 397 AD. About 1500 years later the COGIC was starting.

Yes----going back 1968 and up to about 72 Bishop JO Patterson was responsible for bringing on many of things especially luturgical vestments, the crosses and chains for Bishops, cords for elders, habits for missionaries much of that was duplicated from the Catholics---matter of fact JO even used a catholic argument to keep WA Patterson from becoming Bishop of a TN Jurisdiction over him

Praise the name of the Lord, Bishop Patterson is more annointed in his grave than most of these preachers still preaching. Let me tell you all something I am caucasian and this man of God was loved and respected among us as well. We miss him dearly and there will never be another such as him. He was a great Orator, preacher, minister. But most of all he was a CHRISTIAN

Will there every be another Bishop Patterson? He seemed to be so gifted and had it all. He could sing, dance, preach, and each gift was done with such anointing. Everybody say his work was done but I still think he left us too soon. He is deeply missed. Sometimes I think he was so caught up into delivering the Gospel until he neglected his physical needs, but who I'm I to judge. Rest in peace Bishop! We love you and miss you so!
