Duracoat is a good product, just dont buy it from Duracoat Firearm Finishes Direct the guy who runs this web site Anthoney G Houts has zero coustemer service skills and is rude as hell in his emails witch is the only way he will deal with you he does not have a coustmer service number. All I wanted to do is give him my business and he acted as if he didnt care, avoid him at all costs.
I recently bought the EZ finishing kit.And I have too say...It was anything but EASY...!LOL I had every single problem that could go wrong with the airbrush and propellant. After remedying all of the problems the bottle pops off of the airbrush spilling all over the place, and yes it was screwed on properly. Then the rubber washer was warped beyond belief and unusable.But...For what I did accomplish with a laundry list of problems...My weapons turned out AWESOME!!!! Professional looking even!
Bluing can be left on the firearm before DuraCoating since it works as a good base for DuraCoat. To prep a blued firearm, start by completely cleaning and degreasing the parts using our TruSrip Cleaner/Degreaser. Then rough up the surface of the parts with a maroon 3M ScotchBrite pad or 400-600 grit sandpaper, since blued parts tend to have polished surfaces. Make sure to remove any existing rust during this step. Once you're done with those steps you can go ahead and DuraCoat.
Those airbrush propellent cans need to be sunk in a bucket of water to work well. You take a bucket of hot tap water and trap the can under a few bricks. The water absorbs and dissipates the temperature drop associated with the release of the gas.
The new DuraCoat Shake 'N Spray Finishing Kit may be the route you are looking for then. The kit costs $29.95 and has more than enough to do a knife, so you'll even have plenty left over to DuraCoat more knives, guns, or whatever needs DuraCoating.
If you purchase the DuraCoat Shake 'N Spray Finishing Kit from us directly either over the phone (1-800-830-6677) or on our website, lauerweaponry(.com), the cost is $29.95 for the kit plus $12.52 for shipping for a total of $42.47. Plus, the kit has enough DuraCoat to finish 2 complete rifles or 4 handguns. So you would be able to complete a knife and then proceed to complete many more projects as well with the same kit.
If the 10/22 already has paint on it you would want to remove it by sanding or stripping, then degrease followed by roughing the surface with a 3M Scotch-Brite or 400-600 grit sandpaper. The part is then ready to be DuraCoated. If it is parkerized or anodized, then simply degrease and DuraCoat.
DuraCoat works great over blued items! Simply degrease the item and then rough up the surface by either brush blasting or scuff sanding with sandpaper. It is very important to rough up the surface since blued items can tend to have polished surfaces underneath them. The item can then be sprayed with DuraCoat.
Can you use the regular duracoat process on a wood stock? Do you need special stuff for wood? I've made up my mind and i'm going to duracoat a few firearms. Im just in the research stage. Thanks, Chris
The regular DuraCoat and DuraCoat process works wonderful on wood. Simply degrease the stock and then sand off any existing varnish or lacquer. Then proceed to DuraCoat the item. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us via e-mail or by our toll free number, both of which can be found on our website.
Any type of airbrush or spray gun will provide great results with DuraCoat. We do recommend Paasche airbrushes though because of their high quality and dependable products. You can view all of the Paasche products we offer on our website.

So, for duracoating a used 10/22 you would use paint stripper, degrease, then sand with what grit? And then will you be ready to duracoat?

Will duracoat work over objects that have been blued, such as barrels. I have an old FN hi Power I wouldn't mind refinishing.
