@2323jgrant I understood "Freese is better than Carey" to mean that you thought Freese was a better musician. Apparently you meant "Freese has played for more big names." Not going to argue with that, he's probably gotten really good at playing the generic 4/4 rock beat, which is all that half of those bands ever use. I think they're both great at what they do, I've just had more opportunities to hear Carey's chops because of the nature of the music he plays.
I always listen to the bad ass guitar bass and drums in this song, then the vocals come in and I'm like man.... they really need a different singer than maynard for songs like this.
Don't get me wrong on other songs like the hollow he's a great fit, but this song in my opinion could've gone in a completely better direction vocally than maynard wrote for it.

Why does this version kick so much more ass than the version released on Emotive? The Emotive version lacks the energy and dynamics of this one. To me this song will always be titled "Vacant" and not "Passive". I love Vacant while Passive is just a pale shadow of what this song could have been.
I saw APC in Milwaukee in 2001 and Maynard introduced at least 3 songs as "Fuck Britney Spears". I always listen to the bad ass guitar bass and drums in this song, then the vocals come in and I'm like man.... they really need a different singer than maynard for songs like this.
Don't get me wrong on other songs like the hollow he's a great fit, but this song in my opinion could've gone in a completely better direction vocally than maynard wrote for it.

@theknowbeing i'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but this isn't passive (and most certainly not on the constantine sound track). This is actually Vacant (the original before passive) a song created in the tapeworm project. They re- worked this song later and then called it passive. two different songs entirely.

Why does this version kick so much more ass than the version released on Emotive? The Emotive version lacks the energy and dynamics of this one. To me this song will always be titled "Vacant" and not "Passive". I love Vacant while Passive is just a pale shadow of what this song could have been.

I saw APC in Milwaukee in 2001 and Maynard introduced at least 3 songs as "Fuck Britney Spears". My favorite was the intro for Ashes to Ashes when he said "David Bowie, being the musical genious that he is, actually wrote a song 20 years ago called 'Fuck Britney Spears'". I still laugh when I think about that.
