  • UNCLE POPCORN!! NOOOOOO!

  • it was rather ridiculus that this scen was cut when they allowed bachauses servinds to be remain intact,Why ? they were attractive, that was the excuse. How hypocritcal

  • @mikemcgee They were attractive, so they fit in. In the other scene she is the ONE centaur that is ugly and exaggerated, which, imo, jolted the viewing experience, unlike Bachaus's servents, who pretty much reflected ancient Greece, while the one centaur reflected american racism.

  • @TheNapoleonnerd I think shes cute O.o

  • You guys should check out the super sexy black centaurs about 5 minutes later into the clip, because they blow the other centaurs out of the water!!!

  • Not cool that the studio even thought about putting a Black servant in their movie. Man, and they made her ugly too. Back then, they always overdid it with the lips. I'm glad they later made an adorable girl like Tiana.

  • @SirenSima check out Bauchas's servents later in the film. Yeah, they're servents, but they're pretty servents.

  • @7Chutzpah trololol :P

  • This is why I work for studio Gibli

  • I personally think sunflower is super cute

  • wow....that was racist, whats with all the white trash in the comments section being all racist and stupid?

  • @Aranel1200 "white trash", how about you being a racist?

  • @foobarbe I'm a disgruntled white man who is expressing how disappointed he is of his fellow white folk, i think a white person -or any race for that matter- who thinks of himself or herself as a higher being based purely on their skin tone, is trash, white or not.

  • @Aranel1200 You think that because you are white you are free to insult your fellow white people without being an anti-white racist?

The thing is, calling someone "white trash" is racist, regardless your skin color.

And by the look of things, it was unnecessary, which also makes you a raging folk.

  • ignorance ...

  • why should we censor the truth?

kids today are going to find it anyway

    Look at detroit.

  • @7Chutzpah ur an ugly pimpled face retard.it doesnt even bother me u just called me a negress.I wish i had dark skin and nice big lips.its a compliment cause it means black in spanish LOL.but u r fuking lazy, probably cant even wear bikini u look so nasty, fat ass.if u got some sun too u will be a negro too stupid dam f*k.but ur so f**ing lazy u probably dont get up from ur couch to get some sun.shedding skin all over like a freaking liguana.all u do is sit on ur couch, lazy fat piece of lard!

    hahaha run nigger run.

  • The female centaur is HOT!

  • ROTFLMAO!

  • All 3 scenes have been edited into 1 w/audio fixed.

  • @kev95 That's a poor argument. You should do some research on 'black face' and other racial stereotypes found in such examples as the Uncle Remus stories. These stereotypes carried over to a lot of early Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons. Also, do yourself a favor and type 'Jim Crow Laws' in Google search.

  • Comment removed

  • @SamiasCaesar I know about them, rather hard not to, but my question is would you object to the roles being reversed?

  • @kev95 It wouldn't make sense if the roles were reversed in that particular era. I'm certain Disney would be ostracized by his audience for reversing those roles. The fact is, this short scene was deliberate. It was intended to yet again make black people appear foolish and content with racial oppression. It was the worst kind of subliminal message - one that many children probably laughed at.

  • @SamiasCaesar i just laughed when i saw it in 2011 XD

  • @kev95

should someone objects by watching surreal paintings?

you can reverse the order but it will not make any sense to anyone, including niggers

  • @RocketRaccon3040 And then of course, is the ongoing discussion over the definition of what racism is. You ought to clarify that as well; do you see it as institutional dominion or any act of overt racial prejudice?

  • And yes, I am black. And yes, I find this clip painfully depressing in the way it reinforces a racially stratified caste system.

  • @kev95 - .....Depends. If the white servant was short, dumpy and wanted to do nothing but please his tall, elegant, black masters, then yes.

  • @kev95 This was obviously intended to be racism and offensive in the time period it was created. Please stop talking foolishness.

  • @kev95 How fucking stupid can one person sound with one single comment? You sir, have raised the bar. And the fact you got 5 likes proves rednecks travel in packs.

  • Whilst I understand that this could just be a conspiracy, I do ask myself: "Doesn't it seem odd that Sunflower a noticeably less valued character and the only black centaur? I mean, she's a black slave to all of the beautiful, tall, graceful centaurs who are, ha ha, WHITE." Hmm, not sure what decision to make. Despite this, I don't believe in all of that subliminal crap that people claim Disney adds into their films anyway. I watched Disney loads when I was little and I'm not brain-washed. XD!

  • @dkupke

I believe it's deliberate. I mean, this isn't the only racist thing he's created as you've probably seen...

  • This part of the Pastoral symphony was something that should NEVER have been made in the first place. I'm white, and yes, I understand that this was during a time where making fun of a certain race was considered OK, but even I see that things like this can actually hurt people's feelings, and that, in turn, creates even more animosity and hatred between two races. I'm so tired of seeing people think that other people are the devil. We need to end the cycle of hatred, or it will destroy us all.

  • @Anathar88 We should be allowed to make fun of ANY race. If we aren't then it means fascism. And as we know, fascism is something to be eradicated.

People obsessed with races are the racists.

  • @foobarbe Ok granted, facsism IS something to be eradicated, but how the fuck does not being allowed to make fun of other races lead to us to be facsist?

The point I was making a month ago was, if Disney was gonna end up cutting shit out of Fantasia, why even put it there in the first place?

  • @Anathar88 because it was a different world back then, not something we are proud of, but that's the way it was nonetheless. Once they grew out of that mindset they took it out, realizing how awful it was. They were raised that way, sadly, you can't put all the blame on them.

  • I can see why people would be offended-the character is a pretty obvious racial stereotype. But I think we also need to remember the time at which this was made and the context in which it was placed. I highly doubt Walt Disney set out to deliberately insult anyone with this scene. And we should probably bare in mind that one tiny fact that ITS JUST A FREAKING CARTOON!

  • i think everyone's missing the point here. yeah, by removing the black characters they're basically saying: there's room for Negroes in their perfect "white" world unless they're slaves. Why am i not offended? they thought it was cute to fuck horses and breed with them. Black people need to disassociate themselves from this movie as much as possible.

  • "THE WHITE RACE IS THE DEVIL" - ELIJAH MUHAMMAD

  • @SeanX503 The devil is over a billion people. The more you know.

  • @SeanX503 Shut up you fucking racist prick.

  • @exposed97 YA DON'T SAY!? TELL ME MORE.

  • OH LAWDY.

  • eh, i'm black but honestly i'm not all that offended at this, i wish she wasn't making such a ridiculous face though. i'm more upset about the last part with the devil/satan thing, used to scare the crap out of me as a kid

  • When people ask me if I'm racist, I say, "Well, I do hate some black people, but just the same as I hate some white people."

  • God damn some people are dumb. This was NORMAL back then. African-Americans shined shoes when this was made, because nobody would give them any good jobs. That's just the way it was.

  • Brilliant!!

  • Why should we censor this? Children should know how insensitive and socially destructive we were back then. The youth will never learn if everything is censored into looking like the last 100 years were just peaches n' cream.

  • @SoundsOfAndromeda The problem is, white people aren't going to learn anything from leaving a scene like this in the movie because it doesn't explain anything, and black people are going to be reminded of the pain and suffering they've gone through when they would otherwise just be watching a fun movie.

  • @SyeraMiktayee the thing is i don't think a white kid is going to notice and isame for a black kid unless there mom or dad points it out and then thay can explain i mean im black and i watched this as a kid and did not notices untell now

  • @boomdoom5 I wasn't necessarily talking about younger children, but rather people who are old enough to have to deal with racism and know enough about their history to know that the significance of what's shown in this clip isn't good.

Also, are you sure you saw this particular clip when you were a kid? The scenes with Sunflower, as Disney called her, were cut out in the late 60's because people complained about the racism.

  • @SoundsOfAndromedaI am not sure if u have ever been around kids, but kids dont discuss history when they are w/ each other. They discuss which horse was the prettiest and which ones were the ugly ones. what do u think will happen to the little black girls watching this? white girls will pick on them everyday telling them they are ugly. Please, be realistic. This cartoons were done to praise the white race.No wonder black women have so many issues with their image, thanks to cartoons like this one

  • @Darklord0211

Riiiiight..."inferior". Is that what you really think? Seems like it's you who's living under a rock these days.

So yeah....get off MissArielMarie's tail and go crack some history books. If those are too "old school" for you, then search googles out stuff on Famous blacks and inventors and such things like that. There's a lot. They are not inferior, we are all the same.

  • @MizuUchiha "we are all the same" except that some are black, others aren't. Your sentences is so stupid, dumb and meaningless that it makes you seem pathetic.

  • I'm tired of this racist bull shit, its like a mental illness, in the end we are all human.

  • That people here are laughing about this shows that people don't know how bad racism is. It was especially bad back in the day when "Fantasia" was made and shown.

How the black girl in the scene is shown was how a lot of people thought of African Americans back in the day. They thought of them as ugly, dirty and stupid and it was hurtful to a lot of people.

  • @Bluebelle9289

Just because some people can "brush it off" now, doesn't mean others still don't find it hurtful and those people's feelings should be respected and taken into consideration. You should also try putting yourself in the shoes of African Americans who lived during the Civil Rights movement and take into consideration how they felt when they saw this kind of imagery as the face of African Americans. It's not a nice feeling.

  • @Bluebelle9289 Or into the shoes of an African American today. There's still so much racism that goes on it's mind-boggling.

  • @SyeraMiktayee

Racism and sexism. The racism seemed to pick up during the news of the London riots.

  • Where did you get the footage for this?

  • OH HELL NO!!! these motherfuckers were fucking racist as hell!!!! >:(

  • BUM MUCHERS

  • This movie wasn't the same without sunflower, i mean, it really wasn't. Because the third scene that showed her screwed the entire movies sound and made it completely out of sync.

  • @Joemamma69000

How is it out of sync?

  • @Bluebelle9289 You watch it, cut, to see for yourself.

  • @Joemamma69000

I've watched it. I have the move "Fantasia" on DVD and I still don't see how the film is out of sync.

  • @Bluebelle9289 Is it cut? (As in no sunflower)

  • @Joemamma69000

Yes. I grew up in the 90's. I didn't know about Sunflower till a few months ago. Even so, I still don't see how the film is out of sync.

They didn't cut the scenes with Sunflower completely out though. They just did some zooming in so you don't see when Sunflower and the other small black centaurs come out.

  • @Bluebelle9289 Some prints were edited so badly that the sound went out of sync for the rest of the film. Chances are you might not have that copy.

  • @Joemamma69000

    Maybe.

  • so glad they got rid of this, and no, you shouldn't be "cool" with this. racism is never ok, no matter what race is involved. and just because one black guy says he's cool with it doesn't make it okay. no it's great that this kind of crud is gone so future generations of really young impressionable children get the message that we are all equal early on.

  • Uck! Makes me sick!

  • @baileiso000 What? you don't like cute little black girls in Disney films?

  • Whenever there's a servant, and they aren't white, it has to be racist. Those are the rules.

  • @lesliekwan80 it's not that the servant isn't white, it's that none of the girls are black. the servant is small and diminutive (yet still a woman, so why is she not included in the dress-up session?) while the beautiful tall white centaurs are being groomed for the suitors by her

  • @tavigal lol... technically not all the centaurs are white... I saw some blue/green/red ones.... |D

  • @showerpwner yet...depicted as white. don't try to justify this sickness.

  • @KatarraParson you're an obvious troll; go back to school. If you were so against racism you wouldn't have an icon of a white micheal jackson. ;x Btw, he was sexier when he was black, haha.

  • @showerpwner LMAO! your stupidity is so ridiculous that I find it hilarious. Go back to school? Troll? (name calling is so chidish). Wow, it seems like you suffer from what I call "idiocy, ignorance, and no life disease". I suggest u get some help. And please for the love of God don't have any kids. You prove yourself as ignorant already saying MJ was a "white icon". I won't even get into that. And going on my page seems stalkerish doesn't it? So low and immature. PS: He was always black.

  • @KatarraParson Actually you're stupid, cuz I can see your icon when you comment me. :) I wouldn't want to visit a troll's page, because they are the ones with no life. They go to videos on youtube, and try to start flame wars by bringing up unnecessary comments about race, animal abuse, etc. You're ignorant by only seeing one opinion as being right and make rude comments about people with ideas that differ from your own. have a nice, one-sided life. :)

  • @showerpwner LMAO! You're 2 funny. U just contradicted your very own words. I simply made a comment and U started arguing like the "troll" U are. There's no other idea to this, except the fact that it is racist. N your comments were NOT ideas, they were judgements. Oh, here's a lil' vocab. lesson for yah! :) Ignorant- unknowing, lacking knowledge, unaware. Hmm, who does that sound like? You, of course. Have a nice, ignorant (remember this word), oblivious to the real world, life. : D bye bye

  • @KatarraParson

There are black centaurs featured later on briefly. They look nothing like the black girl in the scene here.

  • its rare that I am surprised by animation, but this seemed just random racism for the sake of it

  • WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

  • Anyone trying to argue that this isn't racist is an ignorant and culturally-unaware loon.

However, I do believe there should be an uncut version. As a black female, I have read plenty of books that use the "N" word and other racial slurs and have been very careful in remembering the context of the work as I did so. That’s really the trick to enjoying classic works with some racial undertones: you have to be a little more objective and a little less personal.

  • @MissArielMarie

Wow stop copying in pasting this to all the videos. lighten up.

  • @Quzina

Wait, so because I post this to two videos, I must be posting this to all the videos?

And you tell me to lighten up because I'm trying to tell people not to get so riled up about these scenes?

Did you even read the comment?

  • @MissArielMarie Good for you. KBO.

  • @Nikifuj908

    Thanks ;)

  • @MissArielMarie just because blacks are lesser creatures then whites, dont make it racist.

  • @TheDarklord0211

Right. You keep telling yourself that.

  • @MissArielMarie And you keep feeling like everyone who is not black is stalking you.

  • @TheDarklord0211

Because that makes sense. Do you even know what you're talking about?

  • @MissArielMarie OMG U RACISST!

its all you retards can say.

  • @TheDarklord0211

"It's" dear. "It's". And I don't know what you're talking about and you're clearly mistaken as well. Let's be careful who we call "retards" shall we?

  • @MissArielMarie You've gone off the whole racist thing to try to make fun of my grammar.

    YOU'VE BEEN TROLLED, BITCH!

hahaha, blacks are so fucking stupid.

  • @TheDarklord0211

I was never "on" the "racist thing" so no, I haven't, because I still don't know what you're talking about. I never called anyone racist.

  • @MissArielMarie Well put. I personally feel it is far more offensive for them to try and deny that they ever did anything of this sort than to openly admit that yes, they did, an it was a different time-if nothing else the original should be preserved for it's artistic value, as the editing they used to remove the bits with the Sunflower character ruined not only the animation, but in several spots the music, which causes it to jump around.

  • @Nyghtshade409

Well at least someone on here has a bit of sense. TasteForDisaster here is acting like a crazy person.

  • @MissArielMarie When the subject of racism comes up, a lot of people tend to act a bit crazy. It's rather sad.

  • @MissArielMarie don't pretend like you black people didn't hate white folks. although i couldn't blame you since a lot of idiots kept you people slaves n' all. why does such a word even exist? seriously, but i guess it's kinda worse in my town, there are only 2 black kids so everyone basically says nigger freely. principle over heard it a few times and doesn't' even seem to care. don't u people call us "crackers"? i find that equally offensive.

  • @TasteForDisaster

You're a dumbass. Short and sweet.

  • @MissArielMarie your a fucking bitch, short and true.

  • @TasteForDisaster

    1. It's "you're."

    2. What you said made no sense whatsoever in the context of my comment. That's why you're a dumbass.

  • @MissArielMarie

1.this is the internet you grammar nazi. it's much quicker to type "your" then "you're" seeing how you'd understand the context.

    2. you offended me, so i offended you back.

that's why your another dumbass bitch who contributes nothing to the world.

  • @TasteForDisaster

Nothing I said was offensive. I didn't say white people were evil or wrong or anything. You're just a dumbass.

  • @MissArielMarie you said "your a dumbass" which offended me. just shut the fuck up already, your a waste of my time.

  • @TasteForDisaster

You talked to me with a barely legible comment spewing offensive and accusing nonsense. *You're* a waste of my time.

  • @MissArielMarie so your a grammar nazi too?

  • @TasteForDisaster

It's not a grammar issue. You didn't even make any sense. That was just me being snide.

  • @MissArielMarie no, that was you just acting like a bitch again. saying "your" is much more conveniant then saying "you're" it saves 2 characters, and everyone will understand.

  • @TasteForDisaster

    1. Your original comment made no sense, but you refuse to acknowlege that. It's borderline hilarious.

    2. My comment is the one with 21 likes. You need to get over yourself.

    3. Only dumb people makes stupid excuses for being dumb.

  • @MissArielMarie hmm, i just read that first comment i made, don't remember typing that, it was either my brother, or i wasn't sober, it looks like a skipped a few sentences, i started talking about the word "nigger" without even stating it. I don't know why you gotta get your pathetic little brain all worked up over this, racism has always existed, and always will, get over it.

  • @TasteForDisaster

Yeah. I'm sure it was your brother. I concede that you're just stupid. You must be considering I wasn't getting worked up over racism. In fact, my original comment indicated the opposite. Yours, if anything, showed a lot more racial outrage than mine did.

  • @MissArielMarie you said that this video was racist, what are you talking about? you were getting worked up over stupid racism.

  • @TasteForDisaster

You need to pick up a dictionary and learn to read. I did say the video was racist. Because it is. However, I also explained that this was a time period thing and then I said: "That’s really the trick to enjoying classic works with some racial undertones: you have to be a little more objective and a little less personal."

  • @TasteForDisaster

Identifying something as racist isn't "getting worked up". I made it very clear I was not offended by the video.

  • @MissArielMarie what's the point of identifying something which has already been identified?

  • @TasteForDisaster

Because some people seem to think that it's not racist? Therefore, I made it clear that it was, however, it was a different time. Regardless, I've already debunked your point. Please go back to your rock.

  • @MissArielMarie to my rock? what do you mean by that? are you being racist? are you saying we live in rocks? shut the fuck up you nigger!!!!! you racist piece of shit!!!! yea i called you a nigger, cause your fucking provoking me, you dumbass bitch!!

  • @TasteForDisaster

That's a snippet of American genius right there. How about you turn it down 10 notches and stop making us all look incompetent, kay?

  • @MissArielMarie english isn't my mother tongue. i wouldn't want to be from the states, bunch of lazy fat asses who have nothing better to do but eat MacDonalds and shit their pants. your seriously a fucking idiot for thinking that everyone on youtube is from the u.s.

  • @TasteForDisaster

You just went from annoying to hilarious.

  • @TasteForDisaster You'd have to be retarded not to see how blatantly racist this scene is.

  • @kwame700 you know, I don't really care about racism anymore, I'm not taking any part in it, instead of those idiot "complaining" why don't they actually do something. as long as my family is safe, I don't give a fuck about racism.

  • Do you realize that in a LOT of movies (cartoon or otherwises) blacks tend to be portrayed as doing more "low class" or subservient jobs like janitors, servants, maids, hair dressers, trash collectors, etc. No not as slaves as that would be considered going to far, however the payed-jobs blacks are often shown doing are based on these stereotypes (which still does seem racist). So no this cartoon (even this banned part) doesn't seem too far away from mainstream entertainment.

  • LOL OMG!!! i can't believe this! lol

  • At least they had sense enough TO delete, whereas some would leave it in and then defend it. `~`

  • @breaksystembse

the fact that this footage was sketched, inked, painted AND ALMOST PUT IN is an abomination toward man, let alone the fact you can still find this footage in nearly mint condition but that's my opinion

  • Really, how is this racist at all? It wasn't uncommon to have handmaids do this sort of thing in the middle ages. Just palette swap the 'offending' centaur with a shade of blue or green or something and everything would be fine.

  • @nWoStyle Lol, it wouldn't actually. As long as the racist features would be kept the same, people would notice. It's not just that the black centaur was a servant, it's also that he/she? was also portrayed as goofy and unattractive (with the stereotypical black face features that used to be popular back then). Furthermore, this clip isn't based in the middle ages...it's fantasy.

  • @nWoStyle Okay so some black girl with big pink lips, and braids sticking out on the sides of her head following a white half horse/human isn't racist. You sir my youtube commenter are blinded.

  • @nWoStyle

It's the way they drew her. Not that she's serving a white centaur.

  • I think It's kinda fun, but OFFENSIVE also! I mean... I'm not black, but I can hardly stand it, and I guess I wouldn't like my children to watch this... at least not without a previous explanation, lol.

  • If you run this scene on a couple more seconds you would also see white children being servants to the centaurs. Is that racist too?

  • @crazymaner2003 It depends

  • WTF? When I consider the time (1941) it makes sense.

  • That I racist as shit! Hahahaha! Disney oh boy

  • Real smooth, Disney.

    *PALM*

  • I think it's offensive to ban this in the first place-- Why not show how far we come in society that were no longer doin this? The fact where diending something from our history, and pretend it's not there is just as bad.

  • i honestly don't understand what's so bad about this. how is it racist to have a black person in the movie? i think it's more racist NOT to include any blacks

  • @dazzle21girl it's the fact that the girl is drawn as a pickaninny caricature from the days of black face, and that unlike the other centaurs who are getting ready to find love, she is only seen as a hoof polishing lowly hand maid.

  • @dazzle21girl

Well you have to consider the year this was made and I know racisim unfortunately is still around but I know in the yea to which this was made, its quite offensive!

Given the sterotype image being made. As to slave ownership; african american women are always portrayed within the homes of plantations. Always doing costodial needs and wearing rags and such.

So by all means I'm glad they took this out.

And it VERY offensive and humiliating! Esp for children.

  • the 2000 version is horrible, beacuse shes cutout, the music dosent match

  • are these scenes in the dvd release??

  • i think this is fukin hilarious lol! im blak and im cool wid this. this is disney which was wel known for discrimination in the past to all kinds of peeps. the past makes the present not the future. chil peeps and get over it. the world is lot better place for diversity compared to 100 years ago. even 20 years ago.

  • @dragonstick18 Well said.

  • @dragonstick18 Yea, but it's still depressing for some of us, a black girl as the servant to some stuck-up Aryan bitch I see Hitler's influence in much in Walt's old films.

Walt supported Hitler's ideals I know for a fact he did not like Jews and he only made the Anti-Nazi films so it looked good for his company and we were at war.

Walt was very much racist, sorry to break it to you people.

  • @FenrirSkollXxXLuna please stop being a catalyst to rumors and propaganda you don't know are true. everyone has heard those rumors, but don't go parading them as fact. i think this was just a matter of exploitation that was prevalent in the early 20th century and earlier. there was racial pride and ignorance of others which no doubt contributed to the stereotypical portrayals of blacks, asians, etc. anyway, it wouldn't lessen his impact on the animation industry.

  • @dragonstick18 Dude that's great man. What you said gained you my respect as a person in general. Thank you.
