Alibre is a cad program that you can grow with, without the fear of expensive upgrades, which for some cad user's,end the use of a product..I hoping I can adford to stay with Alibre for ever,I'd much rather give my money to a charity, then give it to some bloated software company, who thinks everyone is making millions from there software
As soon as I get my new computer this is the first thing I'm buying. The student version of inventor only lasts a few years, but IIRC this has free updates for life?!
You can get it from their official site, I use the Express (free) version at work and it allows you to do quite a bit of stuff with it. They will send you emails about discounts for the actual version.
Shame free version can't import 2D drawing to work from (unless I missed something it renders it not free but useless)
I was testing Alibre - got around to B-spline and found them almost impossible to work with (most everything else is good) - I fired up CorelDraw (Alibre can learn lots about editing curves) - had curves I needed in seconds - but when I tried importing I could only get the 2D drawing - couldn't work in 3D from them

The Alibre Xpress version has several limitations compared to Alibre Design, which is why it's free.
B-spline functionality is under improvement.
