True. what the guides did was tie the fish up behind base camp boat on a 6 foot line, where theres a good current. Tied up, the fish has to work to keep from drowning, they keep him tied up for 2-3 days where he works some fat off, so they say, then they clean him to feed many guides and nativesr. They do not waste anything on the river
I've had an 80kg mekong cat on a rod. If you dont run out of line you can catch just about anything. I catch red tails up to 20kg in thailand. very strong fish but the mekong has more stamina than the red tail. piraiba is a better cat down there

How do you know they didn't? Just because the video doesn't show them releasing it, doesn't mean that they kept it. Notice that they were taking pictures with it. The only reason for that would be to prove that they did catch it, and why would they need proof of the catch if they were going to take the body back with them anyway? Don't jump to conclusions just because you didn't see them release it. Same goes for all the other people spouting off about "catch and release, catch and release!"
Let me explain. When you put a limb line in waters you have never fished before and the natives speek of 1000# monster catfish. You rig up for the monster fish. I had know idea what we might catch, sure a smaller rig would have worked for this redtail in the vid. However my main line was broken (600#) by who knows what. so you might say my rig was to small. It would be nice to know the exact size and species you would catch and rig appropately.I choose to rig for the biggest fish and hang on.
the tackle seems a bit over the top, in the uk we use 20lb line for 80lb cats and that hook is blatantly not necessary, at 2.07 you can clearly see the hook point and barb poking out the fish's eye socket, a much smaller hook would have done. even for 500lb fish 100lb line would surely do? and a smaller hook unless you know its gonne be over 150lb

This is a Red Tail catfish, very popular in the stats to aquarium enthusiasts. You can buy them as juveniles, and they are only like 2-3 inches long, but they grow VERY fast. As you can see with the size of this fish, you would need to have an aquarium minimum of 600 gallons to start, and after about 5-7 years you wouldnt be over doing it if you had a tank in the range of 3 to 5 thousand gallons.
It's been reported that they will reach 700 pounds...I've seen some fish roll in remote lagoons that sounded like a mac truck just busted water...I am talking about a huge splash that was as big as a car...no joke. Could have been Pearacu or giant Catfish, was not a gator...this was a monster fish
they do in fact eat fish this big. most the time(99%)we release all fish alive. All trophy fish are relaesed alive for sure. When fishing some of the really remote areas food supply can be limted at times so harvesting a fish like this a welcome site for the guides and some of the remote villages we might encounter.

Called a Candiru Catfish. They stay in the urethera and don't expand at first but rather hook on to the inside with backwards curving fangs. Don't naturally attack hmans, they aim for gills of fish but mess up.

I've had an 80kg mekong cat on a rod. If you dont run out of line you can catch just about anything. I catch red tails up to 20kg in thailand. very strong fish but the mekong has more stamina than the red tail. piraiba is a better cat down there

lol no i am serious there is a tiny fish that you can't see that swims up your pee into your bladder. you think nothing of it 2 weeks later you get horrible stomach pains because the fish exspands inside your bladder

Called a Candiru Catfish. They stay in the urethera and don't expand at first but rather hook on to the inside with backwards curving fangs. Don't naturally attack hmans, they aim for gills of fish but mess up.

poor cat.. if its the right species they sell these guys down the street from me THIS BIG ALREADY! im not joking. they have some tiny ones a inch or so. amazon fishes are awesome for fish tanks. its ridiculous how big they grow. you dont expect them to get 5 times the size of the tank you put them in haha.

People keep Red Tailed Catfish in Aquariums but most people can't keep them as they do grow that size.
