Zamora destroyed the future featherweight champ Eusebio Pedroza in a bantamweight title fight in 1976. He ko'd Pedroza in 2 rounds in Mexicali. Zamora was a tough hombre.
yes...zamora was a sucess like fighter but when he come to ags mex destroy all boxing team, beacuse he dont know nothing about
training i lose 4 fights whit him i was a real mexican promise but he never suport to me i mean no body of my partners i just want to say thank you zamora you take me out from boxing
Although Zarate was the WBC champ and Zamora was the WBA champ this was actually a 10 round non tile bout.Both sanctioning bodies wanted the fighters to pay huge fees to sanction it as a unification bout.There was no way this was one was gonna' go the distance anyway.
I believe this fight still stands as the highest combined ko percentage of 2 fighters goin' at it.Zarate was 46-0(45ko's)comin' into this fight and Zamora was 28-0(28ko's)WOW a combined 74-0(73ko's)
Great Fight! Zamora never truly recovered from this fight, retiring just a few years later at only 27. If Zamora would've lasted longer, I think he would've had to be on the list of all-time great mexican fighters. We already know that Carlos Zarate is at the top of the list.
Really, Zarate was the greatest bantamweight ever? I thought it would have been the great Brazilian Eder Jofre or fellow Mexican Ruben Olivares. Well, those 3 are definitely top 3 for sure.
I too remember when this fight happened...I think it was at the Olympic Auditorium in LA and if I'm not mistaken, it was a non-title fight, the reasons for which I can't remember. The KO percentages of the two fighters set a record. Boy that Zarate was somethin'...Ring Mag rates him the greatest bantamweight ever.
He was number the 1 bantamnweight ever no one his weight had ever had over 40 KOs before him and then Wilferdo Gomez was second to have Kos over 40 and also the first person to beat Zarate.Guadalupe Pintor managed to get over 40 Kos (42). Zarate's full record is 70 fights 4 losses (KO 2) 66 wins 63 by KO.

Zamora was a helluva puncher but he was a front runner... couldn't take it when somebody fought back as Jorge Lujan proved

Zarates first 25 fights were against fighters who had never won a fight.
This was a huge fight though. Zamora was a killer too...

eso es eludir responsabilidades
ningun campeon mexicano se quejo de sus adversidades aunque hayan sido muchas;
y el que se quejo no llego a ser campeon
lo siento el box no es para putitos

Great fight! The only title unification that approaches the excitement of this one was the VWA/VWF match between Starman and Great Puma (Nintendo).
