  • whats the song?

  • @same9871 Yesterday Went Too Soon by Feeder

  • A 2008 pro BT video suggesting BT are faster eh?

A colleague at work told me her Virgin ISP, I told her mine is indeed faster. But I also told her BT is crap because the damn thing cuts off at random time, it is their problem (took them 2 calls to admit that when that bloke realized I was not scared).

And no, Virgin is no better. In fact none of them are.

  • WTF????? The Virgin went slow??? That sucks!!!!

  • Wtf?!! Virgin is such a rip off!

  • VIRGIN INTERNET IS RUBBISH.

    RESONS: BREAKS DOWN OFTEN

WHEN YOU CONTACT THEM, GOOD LUCK, IF YOU GET THROUGH.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ADVERTS.

  • @dtzms1 Same with BT. And I am not fooled by either adverts or angry uppercase. (Sorry, its funny!)

  • virgin are shite

  • Virgin media has very high quality bandwidth but you need to have the coax installed. Using ADSL wont get you anywhere. ADSL is such an old modem line it should be put in the history museum. BT's CATIV is screwed, its worn out in need of renewal and that wont happen due to them pushing WIMAX so forget ADSL. WIMAX sucks its a health issue worst than mobiles cell towers. Fiber optic cables are the real deal so you need learn how to manipulate virgin media its a double sided coin after all

  • Been on virgin media since it was blueyonder and before that tele west and never had a problem till I got the new superhub on 30mb now I have problems with wireless but there bringing out updates which appear to be improving things you mist have stuck the Internet wire up your cats arse to get speeds that slow on a cable line ???? Even when I lived on another house in the middle of no where I still got better speeds ??

  • @FestMonster This was a ADSL line, and in the few years since I put this video up I moved to AOL and now get arround 8meg so i'm happy with that.

  • I'm on BT and I get 40kbps

  • i've got 20mb, and ive neva had a probelm.....yet

  • omg, i checked the bt website and i can know get fibre optics! :L i am currently on sky and it is only 0.36kb/s download speed! i cant wait :)

  • @mattfox14 I hate Virgin ADSL, also is your long term contract over, have you switched providers? and also whats the song name?

  • @cousinsuk Yes, as soon as the contract was over, I switched to AOL, and they gave me arround 7000 to 8000 kbps so I was happy with that. The song is Yesterday Went Too Soon by Feeder

  • Right, I can actually confirm those results

Virgin Media ADSL is using BT Wholesale Connect as where BT is obviously using it's own network.

With Wholesale Connect, BT Prioritises their own traffic while slowing down Connect Customers. The only reason they do this is to allow BT Broadband users to experience a better connection than if you were taking broadband out with another company through their exchange.

I've had Virgin Media ADSL and all I can say is that it was TERRIBLE. BT Business FTW

  • BT are pure hell.

They will even charge you to get bb removed from you're line hahaha !

  • There is a fault between the exchange and your house. Its nothing to do with Virgin! Im guessing your not on LLU and still paying your line rental to BT.

A few years back both me and my neighbour used to be with AOL. He would get 6-7Mb and i would only get 1-3Mb. ADSL is on a ratio of 1:1 which means one person to one wire unlike cable where its shared 50:1.

Every wire is different, and not all houses in the street go to the same exchange. This is what would be causing your problem.

  • @M3rkieman Bt is Beast :)

  • Tht's rubbish i get 8mb with bt

  • why not go cable on VirginMedia? Its a lot better then using sometimes unreliable ADSL through a phone line and a lot higher speeds.

  • I use bt its good

  • BT is better than Virgin. I've been around the Broadband Block as it were and BT Total Broadband is slow at times, and very unreliable with their new BT Home Hub 2.0 (B Series), I then made the switch to Virgin Media on their ASDL package, which was worse than BT, so I then made the move to BT Infinity, I used to get a 2Meg download speed, with 1Meg upload, now, with this fiber optic stuff, I'm getting 20Meg Download, and 7Meg Upload, that was on a Speed Tester! BT Infinity is worth the money!

  • #1 This video shows no proof whats-o-ever when it said you're testing virgin media's internet speed.

#2 Download speeds vary from how far you live from the exchange, I live 933meters away and I pay £38 for Virgin's 50MB package, I get round 49-51MB download speeds and round 1.5MB upload speeds.

#3 When it comes to online gaming both download and upload rate matters, but there is no such thing as 'it doesn't recognise your internet speed' .

  • @TNTechHD how do you check how far away you are from your exchange ??

  • i have just canceld my "50meg" connection with virgin. you only get that speed if you are downloading. if you play online games for example halo or cod then it recognises that ! and it only gives u 5meg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read the small print !!!!!!!!!! bt 5meg is like virgins 50meg (for online gaming)

  • @TubedProductions You would also do well to learn basic grammar when posting, such as the correct use of the apostrophe. In the context in which you have been using it, "your" should be written as "you're". I find your reply to be both disturbed and disturbing. Get a life, waster.

  • @TubedProductions A useful tip when posting comments is that the CAPS lock is usually located to the far left of the keyboard about halfway down.

  • @Paulph04 A useful tip when posting comments is to ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT LOL

  • @TubedProductions

Actually, we do offer 10Mb upload and 40Mb download depending on what package you take. Again, this is a upto speed but we cap them both at the advertised speed and not a megabit less!

I work for BT Openreach! All my opinions are my own.

  • that is slow!

  • i have also spoke to virgin in the store and they have said they will have a 150mb service at the end of the year and 250mb sometime next year.

these have already been tested on their networks and are ready.

i think BT have some catching up to do

  • lol all my friends that are on bt always get crap speeds and want to move to virgin

one of them on bt's 20mb service gets 1mb download and 0.7 upload

im on virgins 20mb and get around 19mb download (always, may dip to 12 when my brother is also online) and 2mb upload :D

  • just to let you know btw this is not a true representation as bts 2Mb service is a 2Mb service whereas virgin upto 8meg is "upto 8 Mb" bts service is not adsl max so shouldnt be comparing them, that is all

  • bt's coming back with a 40meg internet and virgin's only got a 10 meg whoo!

  • @smileyb10

Virgin media have had 50mb for a few years now with (currently) no bandwidth throttling on that plan.

  • @Gamerwillz I'm capped after 100gb. Which considering im on BT Infinity and get 38448kbps down stream, that's like, a couple of days downloading. And then bam, I'm limited at peak times for a month to 4mb. Luckily I download after midnight using my NAS, but still it shows BT have poor TM too. Also, torrents are noticeably capped at peak times.

  • @dezontk Godammit! That would be annoying. I personally think that if you are capped, BT should give you 12Mb minimum, that would be great. But 4Mb from 40Mb broadband is just ridiculous!

  • My download speed is 0.13mbps :(

  • Lol i got 20mb in Bt Broadband ! =D

  • Connection throttling is all about more bucks per megabyte

ISPs don't really care about copyright.Corporations are amoral

  • Just a note to the creator of the video. MB is megabyte, Mb is megabit. Two very different measurements.

  • @unrealeck I show both results in kbps

  • @mattfox14 I know, I was referring to the 8MB and 2MB ADSL. It's actually 8Mb and 2Mb. 8MB would actually be very fast. Very very fast.

  • @unrealeck Oh right I see, I did mean 8Mb

  • Considering that at the time this video was filed, Virgin Media were using the same underlying product as BT Broadband (i.e. IPMax), this proves that the speeds you are getting are probably due to a line fault, stuck BRAS profile or a FUP managed account (i.e. outside of the fair usage policy).

I would recommend contacting Virgin Media (if you still have the service) because if there is a fault and that's resolved, you could get faster that your neighbour depending on the quality of your line.

  • virgin isnt 8mb

  • When you did your BT test you where connection from a different house? If this is the case, then maybe the previous house you where in had a shit quality phone line and you where far from the exchange?

  • well he said they were 2 minutes apart so i doubt it, also he is lucky, my BT broadband gets barely 1.5mb, 'apparently' it should be 8, i am within 1km of the exchange and my next door neighbour has 11mb on BE, for less money.

  • im getting Sky broadband 16MB unlimited bandwidth tomorrow (or in a few hours) and its going to be a huge improvement over my shitty carphone warehouse 8MB broadband which goes from 4000kbps in the morning to 3000kbps in the afternoon (19:00pm) which sucks because im usually gaming on my xbox around about that time, so ill get disconnected from xbox live randomly and when it connects back up its really slow and laggy.

  • i wouldnt bother with plusnet either they suck

  • my bt doesnt get half of that and im on the 8mb plan :(

  • Im on the Unlimited plan thing and mine varys ALOT sometimes its less than 1mbps and sometimes more that 4mbps.

  • @Stoked1994 i am on 8meg BT and we get 3.90MB/s lol

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz i get 1.3MB/s :@

    BT sucks

  • @Stoked1994 i know ye m8 they are shit, when ur on the 8mb or 20mb option they cap your speed ! im switching to 20mb sky coz u get about 5mb/s all day no matter what time lol :P

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz ah your lucky, im not aloud to change :/ sounds good hope it goes well lol :)

  • @Stoked1994 yeh i do a test wen i get it and i will give u results :)

  • what software is this

  • Just happened to see the latest BT advert as I was passing the TV in the living room to make myself a cup of Nescafe coffee. They started saying "Your favorite programmes". I hate it when advertisers say "your favorite programmes". It is so rude. They don't even know me so how do they know it is my favorite programme . I'd never even heard of the stupid programme. They only say that because they no you can't answer back and they know exactly what I'd say if I could.

  • oh, and the government for letting it still happen. Ofcom are a bunch of lame pussys

  • the UK sure does take the piss out of us cuntsumers with poor download and upload speed and too much money a month. They are having a laugh year in and year out

In Japan they are offering a staggering 1 GB connection download SPEED AND upload on unlimited for £30 a month

Britiain isp's rips the arse out of our pockets. i blame BT for this continual theft

  • @ExtremeBogom What makes you think Brandson has anything to do with Virgin Media? Virgin Mobile was his creation, not Telewest/NTL/Blueyonder etc. Moreover, there is clearly something wrong with the Virgin connection if that is the speed, at least 19Meg on my 20Meg and soo many other people will tell you the same.

  • @Cerberus256

That post is over a year old. Things change. My speed is as advertised. Go away.

  • @ExtremeBogom Glad to hear it. Comment may be old but its still there, thought your words were strong that's all.

  • @ExtremeBogom Its a bit stupid to tell people to go away when you've left a comment publicly on a popular website which allows people to reply at will.

If you don't want people to reply to your old posts perhaps you should delete them?

    Have a nice day.

  • @bobbystar101

I actually did that after the initial go away comment.

  • V media broadband is an absolute crap.the signal keeps getting lost almost most of the time.don even bother to install v media especially broadband.

  • I disagree, I have an excellent service from them, best in the UK in my opinion.

  • Probably be the kiss of death but because my comments are usually anti everything think it's only fair to ..you know. No problem with Virgin Broadband and I'm not a fan of the Richard Branson ...you know.

  • got my bt hub about 3 weeks ago....i can download at like 70 in the morning and 6 at night....the connection is shit and im 4 meters away from it,BT is a total waste of money tiscali was better and half of the price...so FUCK BT

  • 4 seconds in and buffering with bt broadband on a 1 minute video. youtube is impossible.

  • of course you can have more than 1 phone line per household. i have 4 lines and 3 ADSL connections.

  • Errrm ... How can you have both Virgin ADSL and BT ADSL. I used to work for BT and unless you have a business we will only install one phone line per household!

What you have done, is had stuff downloading in the background during the so called "VM" test, then switched it off during the so called "BT" one. There both on the same line, so dont try to be smart!

  • Because of my appalling Virgin Media speed, my internet was un useable, I was in a long contract with Virgin that I was unable to cancel, and as you say I cant have 2 ADSL connections on one line, I made a deal with my next door neighbour, that I could use his wifi connection if we both go halfs on the bill. I agreed and he told he his security key and all was well, I simply connected to my own wifi recorded a speed test with screen cam softwear, switched to his, and did the same.

  • I have bt, urgh its terrible.

had a peroid of where the net would be down every 5 minutes for several days at a time. couldnt do anything!

  • Virgin does suck

But i think it sometimes deppends on where you live.

For sure if you live in the South East BT is the way to go, i found that out myself, i live in kent.

  • just got BT fibre broadband, ive got 35 megs download and 2 megs ipload

  • iv got vm 10 mb connection and get 0.19 mb it sucks

  • Make up your mind. First you get 2Mb then 0.19 ... Grow up! I get the full 10Mb

  • I think what TERMINATOR2452 is saying is that he is on the a upto 10mb contract

  • i hate vm they suck big time they only dream of being good

  • my 10mb virgin connection only makes 2mb.. stay clear of this company....they wont even come out to fix it and hanged up on me when i phoned them.....4mb TISCALI are better

  • i think vm is great try the 50mb package its too quick

  • fuck uk,

  • WOW!

  • BT is obviously better. Virgin Media is capping their customers!

  • Thats a negative

  • They all do that it's just that Virgin are one of the few if not the only one that actually tells you about it.

  • BT is horrible.

  • @Gamerwillz Exactly. It's too easy to use up the allowance. Atleast on virgin 50mb you have unlimited downloads. But really, unlimited. (If I posted alot, youtube is messing around for me).

  • @Gamerwillz wrong totally there is no cap limit on 50meg and bt is all copper core cable vigin media isnt

  • @Liquadia - BT isn't all copper core. BT Infinity, their new fibreoptic service, is currently being rolled out. It has an upload speed of 10mbps, compared to the 1.5mbps upload speed of Virgin's 50mbps service. And costs less each month, too.

  • @Gamerwillz r u for real? BT can fucking suck my dick, they CAP your speeds meaning they slow it down when lots of people online because BT internet is shared:/ FUCKERS! SKY Broadband is 5mb/s all the time :)

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz I have switched to TalkTalk Plus which is LLU. Much better. I'm getting 14.3Mb consistently.

  • @Gamerwillz It really depens on your area and how close you are to your local exchange

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz I know, and I'm actually getting 14.3Mb out of 24Mb but I'm pleased with the speed I'm getting. I'm paying £15 (excluding line rental)... very good price thanks to the LLU technology, and it doesn't share Internet speeds. :)

  • @Gamerwillz Yeh BT Are The Famous Ones That Share Your Fucking Internet! I HATE THEM SO MUCH! LOL. Do you know if Sky shares ur internet? i dont think they do?

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz If there is no Sky LLU in your area, then it will be shared because it will go through BT's network. LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) is a technology that takes your connection through ISP's own equipment, not BT's, so therefore it's faster and cheaper. If you have any LLU providers in your area, go for them! You can check by visiting samknows.com, then go to UK Broadband Availability > Exchange Search.

  • @Gamerwillz Yes. my exchange supports LLU services so thats good ?

  • @Gamerwillz with SKY aswell

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz Now that's good! If you're with Sky but not on LLU, you can tell them to upgrade.

  • @Gamerwillz so i would ring them up and ask them to turn upgrade my service to LLU ? and btw do you have msn or skype because i really like talking to someone thats interested in things like this aswell as me ;)

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz Yeah, I think so. If you can't just order a new broadband package from the Internet. Yep, I've got Skype, my Skype ID is gamer-willz. Discuss tonight, not now because I'm at college at the moment.

  • @Gamerwillz its my study day today :)

  • @MitchAndSammyDriftz Oh cool. What are you studying? I study about IT.

  • @Gamerwillz Yep the same here :D haha :P which level and btw i sent u a PM of these amazing settings i got earlier :O its so crazy and i dont have a clue how the hell i got them, PM Sent! :)

  • i have virgin media 20 mb and it gives me 14.53 download speed =)

  • ur getn ripped off then

  • lolz the first test you should check the ip address if its dynamic ip cuz some ip give slower ping time.

  • Guess i won't switch to Virgin

    lol

  • lol virgin fail

  • thats exelent !!!! :p

  • o2 or be are the best if you can get on their unbundeled LLU at your exchange! If not then your like me i get 700k DL and 70K UL from 4PM-3-4AM then speed goes up to 4.3mbit. It totally crap! and they charge me £22/mth for it, Its to do with BT and its shit exchanges, UK is like a 3rd world country when it comes to tech fucking hate being here its utter shit think i will get a gun a shoot some politicians they are the route of the problem

  • i have the 10mb virgin broadband and i have not ever had a problem, i always get speeds of over 9mb, witch is better than when i had BT as they could not even provide me with half a meg!

  • i upgraded my virgin broadband to 10 megabyte (Large) from what was a 2 megabyte connection (Medium) and i only get between 3 and 4 meg connection.

I'm wondering if its because the connections inside my house are copperwire rather than optical (as it was set up years ago by NTLworld and if this is causing a bottleneck.

Or rather if its that the modem that NTLworld provided me (prior to virgin taking over) is only capable of handling speeds up to 4 megabyte.

    Any ideas?

  • Go for O2 or Be. There simply the best providers.

  • christ, i use 3g broadband mostly cuz its faster than my dsl, my dsl is with eircom and its supposed to be 2mb, but i only get 500kbps.

my 3g is is supossed to be 3.5mbps but i only get bettween 2 and 2.5mbps

i use the 3g for downloading stuff on the pc & laptop and surfin the web and i use the dsl for online gaming on the ps3 since the 3gs ping is shit and internet conection sharing with the ps3 really slows it down !!!

  • Both tests

    Were using the same computer

    Minuets apart

    Using Firefox 3.0.1

----Doesnt effect the speeds at all

  • depending on your range and distance from the exchange box can effect your download but also what time did you do the speed test was it after 18:00 at night??? if it was it mean yiou have been throttled try it during the day then after 18:00 with not downloading any thing you will see the diffrence!! virgin has a download limit after 16:00 and if you go over that 300mb i think limit then you get throttled to min mb!

  • If ADSL is the best option in your area then quite frankly you are very unlucky.

  • I am on BT BB, up to 8mb line and I get 6.5 mb, usually 7 and even 7.5 sometimes. I checked google and we're not even half a mile from the exchange. We're switching to virgin next week, simply because BT are over-priced.

  • Since many complaints to Virgin the speed of my connections has gone upto arround 7900kbps, So I say good move

  • I'm not sure what being far away from the exchange means in terms of distance. I'm 0.7 miles from mine.

  • i have 8mb but mine only goes up to 3mb to 4mb i wouldn't mind it going to 5mb or 6mb but i dont know how to make it do that any software that will help?

  • 02 internet rules!@!@!@!

    wooooo

  • dont trust to speedtest... i have 2 mb with virgin and speedtest says 4 mb

  • japan have 150mb, china 100mb uk Lame

  • cost of laying fibre in an country like this is £30bn.

  • No they don't...

  • Bt is the same as plusnet shitnet.

  • haha theres no chance on this earth that bt is 2mbps downstream! (unless you live next door to the distribution center) im with bt and my downstream says 3.5 mpbs, if im really lucky i can get 500kbp/s when downloading, upgrading to virgin 20 meg tomorow

  • i have 8mb BT BROADBAND and i am 690 meters away from my local exchange and i download at a max rate of 840kb/s

  • VM been with them for 3yrs fuck shit company getting my old bt line going to get adsl 8mb servic no capping through o2 or other. I pay £45/mth xl bb - Phone - L TV so here what im doing. Getting sat dish in to watch my euro channels free! so VM fuck right off branson fuck face drop dead. 20mbt service a con and a lie nx door has bt 4mb lime and its faster than my 20mbit. VM staff liars best way to fuck these bastards up is to leave. Two big stiff righteous fingers to UK companys like this

  • I join you in the righteous 2 fingers!

  • we put VM execs in stocks one in every city in the uk! (branson in london that prick) every day 7days aweek rain or shine we the public get to give them righteous 2 fingers first thing in the morning and when we leave work spread the joy of the fingers! :)

  • Im paying £25 a month for half a meg.. sposed to be 8 mb..but we live far from exchange.. Fucking bs.

  • Something odd has happend since making this video, my virgin 8mb is now getting 5mb down, but for how long?

  • no one gets 8mbs. 7.15mbps max and varies via distance from exchange.

  • Yeah, they should call it up to 7. At least with Virgin I can reach 10,000. 9500 on average.

  • 7.15 is the ip profile. 7.15 is better than 7. everyone knows that :) also, its unfair comparing copper and cable as cable is designed for internet. not everyone can get cable, we don't all live in cities.

  • Both of those Companies are noobs VIA AMERICA VIVA LOS AMERICA DOWN WITH THE UK BROADBAND THEY NEED TO give UK better broadband!

  • True, the speeds are absolute crap in this contry

  • yeah totally agree , im currently with bt on a 2mb deal but all im getting is 500 kb ( half a mb) so im gonna move to virgin and hopefully get a better speed

  • bt broadband is fukin shit..they restrict you when you dl too much,so even if you go 50 mb over youre fuked for the next month...bt i hate you, your name stands for "shit"........

    top tip.......

get a laptop or another comp set up....

    run backtrack 3 live cd.....

use a net gear wg111v2 adapter....

get your self a few wireless points set up :):)

    hey presto..no more slow downloading....

if you use a laptop even better...more invisible...

brute force the shit out of bts site through another wifi:)
