  • wow you really gave good evidence that it was just a humbug!thank you!i never even believed it was a munchkin hanging himself anyway!

  • Great story! Love It!

  • Thanx for explainig and making it clear now i no it wasint a guy hanging

  • actually people are looking in the wrong place.its right behind the house and for a split second you see his body swing out into view.from what i have heard he killed himself because he wanted to be immortal and since he is on a major motion picture he is.they kept that because no one noticed this is what i saw and heard look it up if you have to

  • Look it up... where? Why don't you provide valid proof to back up your story? I've done my research and found that there was no suicide. If you want me to believe your cockamamie story, provide some real detail and some proof of it. "From what I heard" - hearsay is not proof. "He killed himself" WHO? Doesn't "he" have a name? "He wanted to be immortal" Since when does suicide make anyone immortal? "They kept that" Who kept what? "No one noticed" No one noticed WHAT?

  • @TheBlueFlamingo ok seriously this is just what i heard and what i saw. When I said kept that I meant they kept the scene because no one noticed. But I DID MY RESEARCH.One of the stage hands fell and got caught on the wire BUT he didnt die.The only person who died out of this whole movie was the tin man and that was after the movie was made.

  • Which stage hand? Got caught on what wire? What does this have to do with anything? And, yes, Jack Haley (the actor that played the Tin Man) is dead. He died in 1979, a full 40 years after the movie was released. All the other actors and everyone else associated with the movie is still alive? You better do some more research. They're pretty much all dead by now, but that's really not that remarkable since the movie is over 70 years old.

  • @TheBlueFlamingo thank you for this cute story.everything u made on here makes sence, ive tried looking it up on google ,now come on,u can find anything and everything on google,no name no nothing,so im convinced it was untruthful, thank you for this short truth u made ;)

  • If you're suggesting that someone can kill themselves in a movie studio full of people with cameras pointing right at them and on one would notice, you really need to rethink this. No one noticed a dead body when they struck the set? Anyway, I am not going to believe your story just 'cause you heard this somewhere (from where?) If you want me to believe this crap, give some solid evidence. A newspaper article about the story from 1938 would be a great start.

  • Please look up 'Wizard of Oz 2011: Hanging Munchkin Found on VHS Tape'

I did too see this when I was a younger child and it scared the crap out of me. I know the difference between a bird and a hanging person so I don't even know how people would try to trick you with that crap.

  • Yep. Someone added a digital image to the film. I'd like to see them take the "tape" from the box, put it in a VCR and then see what is on the screen.

At any rate, the "object" in the video, even if it really was there in the original print, is not clear. 'Could be a side of beef for all I can tell. I'd still like to know the name of the person that hanged themselves and see a legitimate news story. Why is it so hard for you guys to present some solid PROOF?

  • Seriously Cue,all the guy is asking for is proof, and you can't even link him to a site with any?

  • THANK YOU!!! I am willing to believe there really was a hanging, but I just can't take someone's word for it. I need to see some real proof. If it really happened, it shouldn't be that hard to prove.

  • @TheBlueFlamingo I use to believe the hanging, till I watched the movie a day later after having nightmares, that some "dead guy" was gonna get me.

  • Filling your inbox? Need I remind you, you came here and started posting in my channel, on my video. What? I'm not supposed to respond to you? Why? Is it against the rules to challenge your little ideas? You sure don't mind challenging my ideas. I was just trying to help you make a point. What are you so mad about? Even with my help you don't have the brain power to back up what you say. Poor baby. Run to mommy with your tail between your legs. You're blocked. You've become annoying.

  • You're the one that is so adamant that some unnamed person died without a trace on the set of a motion picture. The burden of proof is on you, not me. I am not the one throwing a hissy fit because you're refusing to see truth, reason or use any sort of intellect in this matter. If you choose to continue being an ignorant boob, it's no skin off my nose. You are the one that wants me to believe something just because some ugly twat in a video says it's true.

  • I don't see anywhere where you have stated something is "your opinion". I do see where you said fighting on the internet is retarded, so why are you fighting? And what does it mean when you piss and moan and throw hissy fits like you're doing? If you're not wrong, it should be easy to prove. There must be all kinds of proof of someone that died on the set of the Wizard of Oz. That kind of thing doesn't go unnoticed. So, where is your proof?

  • 11. Why are there so many conflicting stories about what happened and who died?

    12. Why didn't anyone talk about this alleged hanging until 1989?

    13. Why does Jerry Maren so vehemently insist it never happened?

    14. Why did they include the scene in the movie if it has a dead body in it?

    15. Did you really think this through?

    16. Are you really this gullible?

    17. Are you really so stupid as to believe someone died just because some dumb chick in a video said so?

  • 6. How does someone kill themselves in a studio full of people and no one notices until years later when people start seeing it on a DVD?

    7. When and where was the funeral held?

    8. Why is this not mentioned in any official history of the making of the Wizard of Oz?

    9. Why do so many experts in urban legends claim the alleged hanging to be a rumor and nothing more?

    10. Why are there so many different scenes that allegedly show a hanging? (There are more than two)

  • I've seen it. It proves nothing. It shows a girl dancing and somehow they conclude that she's dead? How could she be dancing if she's dead?

But, all right, since you're such an expert, please answer a few questions:

    1. What is the name of the munchkin that died?

    2. Where is the body buried?

    3. Where can I find an obituary?

    4. Where can I find a copy of the death certificate?

    5. Where can I find interviews with the cast and crew explaining what happened?

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • i do doubt that a munchkin actually died, and that is clearly a frikin bird, but i hear that in a compeley different scene a little earlier in the film, that there is where the munchkin hangs (herself, from what i hear) and you can see the noose and everything...i have yet to find it...

  • Yeah, there's a scene in Munchkinland where the Munchkins are all swaying back and forth and for some reason someone decided one of them is being hanged because she's swaying back and forth. Never mind that they're all making the same motion. The "noose" is really her hat. Even if this story were true, one has to wonder how someone could hang themselves in a room full of hundreds of people and not be noticed.

  • the non-existant suicidal munchkin as

    the non-existant suicidal munchkin xD

  • Glad that made you smile.

  • KENYA REFRECE FTW.

  • omg I love this music

  • Kevin MacLeod is a genius and a half. I use his music in most of my videos.

  • definitly a crane. just watch this :) /watch?v=N4gh6BEPN8Q&feature=related

Bad Quality bud in mky opinion the best video that proves it

  • Really, the best proof is that no one can prove it actually happened. That video, really, is just the same as watching the movie. It looks like a crane either way.

  • Great JOB Flamingo! I watched another video revealing the emu/crane/bird-its very clear. My friend is pressed on this & I can't wait to show him your vid.

  • Good luck. There are still people that believe the rumor despite all the evidence against it. They can really be stubborn about this.

  • uhhh. the alleged "crane" is an edit. its hard to see and u may have to watch it a few time to catchi it, but it is actually one of the munchkins.

  • Which one of the munchkins? What's the name of the alleged dead munchkin? The scene with the crane was shot before the munchkins were cast, so how could a munchkin have been on the set? I imagine an edit that doesn't exist would be very hard to see, yes. If there was a hanging, why not cut out the few frames where it can be seen? Why edit in a crane? When did this edit take place and who was in charge of it?

  • Where can one find an obituary for the alleged dead munchkin? Where are the news stories, the interviews with people involved with the movie? Why is this not talked about in any book or documentary about the film except to say it's a hoax? Why did they leave the footage of the hanging in the film and later cut it out? Why didn't anyone notice the hanging when it happened? Was this munchkin invisible or something? Your lies are too full of holes to be anything but laughable.

  • @st0rmpage its a freaking wing of a crane...you can see its body go behind the tree before it sticks its wing out

  • Catchy tune.

  • but did the first tin man die because of lead paint in his costume?

  • No. The first Tin Man was Ray Bolger, who switched roles with Buddy Ebsen so he could play the Scarecrow. Buddy Ebsen had a severe reaction to the aluminum dust in the make-up and was dropped from the movie, but he didn't die from it. The third Tin Man was Jack Haley, who also did not die from the make up (the formula had been changed by this point).

  • who the hell cares. it happend like 60 years ago. there is alot more problems going on then some stubby miget guy who was said to of killed him self. THE PAST IS THE PAST AND FUTURE IS NOW!

  • Someone's not getting enough sleep, I see. Kinda crabby, aren't you?

  • Comment removed

  • @F00TIFY - Funny, I always thought the present is now and the future is tomorrow...

  • The hanging didn't happen, only in crazy land it did.

  • Agreed!

  • Oh, and to top it off, there's a new video claiming the "suicide" was actually on the roof of the Tin Man's cottage...however, the person who posted it disabled comments, wonder why! LOL

  • Because they can't be bothered with the truth, you know. *grin*

  • @TheBlueFlamingo Nobody knows where the hanging happened, let's leave it at that and have a good laugh.

  • this was not the scene it happened in,it was in munchkin land...really

  • And can you point out a reliable source for that? A newspaper article? An obituary? Anything? Who was it that died? What was their name? I need solid proof, not just more flimsy stories before I'll believe it. Really.

  • @TheBlueFlamingo - Not to mention that there were over 100 people on the set for the Munchkinland sequence...the idea that a suicide would've taken place there is even more ludicrous than the rumor about it taking place in this scene!

  • The idea that it happened at all is absurd. It's been over 70 years since the movie was released. You'd think by now someone would have found some valid proof of the suicide, wouldn't you?

  • @TheBlueFlamingo - Yeah, def...funny how, for everyone who claims to have "proof" that the suicide happened, they quickly clam up when pressed to supply it.

  • @nese67 Maybe you didn't get my other comment, but I need a reliable source on this. Any newspaper clipping, obituary, anything but just another rumor spreading around the Internet would be appreciated. I mean, you can prove that you're not just spreading another dumb rumor, right? Really?

  • OMGGGGGGG THANK YOU!!!!!!!! i never could see i munchkin in that shot anyway i knew it was fake

  • I'm not saying it's a dead guy.. I really don't know. But I don't think "Blueflamingo" helped me decide.

  • That's a good thing. Check out a few more

sources before making up your mind.

  • This is a buch of bull shit. I honesty don't care about some old picture. Since when did they have computer animation open to the public around the time of this movie? They didn't. Thanks. Bye.

  • I don't know. I've had several people try to

tell me that they used computer graphics to

cover up the hanging. No idea where they

get the notion such a thing would be

    possible in 1938.

  • i swear its nothing

  • well not saying it is a dead man but it was half behind a tree and the scarecrow fell over did he fall over because he saw something while looking in that direction but i heard they put the crane in there to cover something up maybe another suicide?

  • The Scarecrow falls down a lot. That doesn't prove much. And how, exactly, did the crane cover up a suicide? And why? They brought a crane onto the set and suddenly the suicide didn't really happen?

I'll stick with the truth. These goofy little stories about the suicide are way to confusing.

  • @TheBlueFlamingo - Not to mention the crane's clearly visible in the background earlier (during If I Only Had a Heart), unless you subscribe to the ridiculous theory that the crane was "digitally added" into two separate scenes.

  • If I believed every story I heard, I would believe: the movie was originally in black and white, MGM ran out of money so they couldn't reshoot the scene, MGM paid everyone lots of money not to talk about the hanging, Disney paid everyone not to talk about it, a flying monkey was hanged, the original Tin Man was hanged, the girl that wanted to be Dorothy was hanged, the body was hidden in the chimney, the hanging was really in the Munchkinland set, the hanging was really in the witch's castle...

  • Your conspiracy theroy would have worked out if Disney HAD paid for this movie, Disney is not associated with this movie. Also, once again there is no concrete evidence showing anything in your theroy to be probable. Also, what "Mafia"? Where are the documents that point these out and the so-called Garland interviews, it is unlikely that the interviews from the 60s would ALL be gone nor the transcripts of the interviews.

  • Please make an attempt to read comments and try to comprehend them before making a knee jerk reaction. I began by saying "IF I believed..." as in I do not believe any of these theories. I was merely repeating as many stupid theories as I could recall. This is also why I ended by saying, "it's so much easier to believe the crane is just a crane." I hope this made things easier for you to understand so you can stop griping at me for no reason. Geez.

  • ...newspapers were told not to run the story, lots of newspapers (though, no one knows which ones) ran the story, the munchkin killed himself because his girlfriend left him AND Judy Garland wouldn't date him AND he was retarded AND he was drunk AND he got tangled in some wires AND someone murdered him, but it wasn't a munchkin it was the child of the producer who was playing on the set AND they were upset they didn't get the role of Dorothy or the munchkin, or it was really a mafia hit and..

  • the mafia paid MGM to keep quiet, they weren't able to reshoot or edit scenes in those days, the hanging can only be seen in a special edition VHS tape that many have seen yet no one owns, it's been talked about in many documentaries none of which are available anywhere now, no one talks about it because no one liked him anyway, Judy Garland talked about it a lot in interviews that are no longer available anywhere...

It's just so much easier to believe the crane is just a crane.

  • LOLOLOL Great video. But I can't find a video of the scene that doesn't scream at me ):

  • Scream at you? Are people turning the scene into screamer videos now? Good God, what next?

  • Haha, I know XD The ones that don't though, are to terrible of quality to see anything.

  • honestly blue flamingo what could we do without you :)

  • Oh, I'm sure you'd find something.

  • BRAVO^^ COOL VIDÉO :)

  • Thanks!

  • I don't know. It depends on how brave you are. If you're really brave, nothing in this video will scare you.

  • Well, of COURSE! I'm pretty sure everyone knows that no one actually killed themselveson the set, they just think it is a weird coweenkeydink. Right?

  • my point exactly, i have no idea how any human eye can see anything but the bird

  • I can. If you squint really hard peeling onions so that your eyes are watering really bad, not to mention wearing tinted coke-bottle thick glasses that are way too strong for your eyes, it might look like a guy hanging himself. But, yes, anyone with normal vision should see a bird.

  • There are probably at least a dozen other places in the film where people claim they see a munchkin hanging. If you believe all the rumors, you must believe there were people hanging themselves all over that studio.

    1. The 1939 version, which is the one the rumors center around, was filmed in Technicolor. There is no "black and white" version of this film.

    2. The actors playing the munchkins had not been hired yet when this scene was shot.

  • 3. The video you sent is the same exact scene as the "color" version that someone turned black and white before putting it onto YouTube. Listen to the soundtrack, compare the pictures. It's the same film.

    4. There is still a lack of true evidence: a newspaper report, an obituary, a death certificate, the actor's name... nothing. As usual.

Don't be suckered in by phony videos. Use some common sense.

  • Old news

  • This video is both funny and serious

  • Pretty much, yeah!

  • I think MGM came up with this rumor to get sales for the movie.

  • Nah, they didn't need a rumor to boost sales, given how almost 25 years of TV airings (@ that time) had already made Oz a part of Americana when it was first released on video...given it was the first time people could watch the film again and again instead of just once a year, it allowed more of a chance for the scene to be studied (on a TV screen, which has far less detail than a movie one), which led to the rumor.

  • Hey! Thanks for dropping by again!

  • Not a prob...I know it's been awhile. :-)

  • I have to wonder what poor sap would take the time to sit around and make up a rumor such as this one. They must have way too much time on their hands, because I swear, this is one of the most far fetched, ridiculous things I've ever heard in my life! People these days...

  • I always guessed it was a couple of stoners that came up with the idea.

  • Probably so! ^^

  • Nice hanging munchkin drawings

  • Thank you!

  • If the Tin man tired hanging himself the rope would break

  • I suppose it depends on how strong the rope is.

  • Or say the Scarecrow his head would un pop off.

  • The Witch wouldn't need to hang herself. She'd just jump in a river.

  • Awesome vid man nice graphics howd u do the whole cartoon thing???

  • Windows Movie Maker and Microsoft Paint! That's all.

  • Too many Hanging Munchkin videos.

  • I've never stopped to count. How many are there?

  • Millions

  • How did you find the time to count them all?

  • Each time I click on an video and laugh at the stupidity.

  • What's the stupidest thing you've seen in a video?

  • Well, if I'm a moron and you're the expert on the subject, you won't mind giving some real facts, right?

    1. WHO specifically are you talking about? Did "he" have a name?

    2. What sort of material was this "backdrop" made from? Why would they use "see through" backdrops?

    3. How many reliable sources can you provide to back up your story? Y'know, newspapers, books, things like that.

    4. If "he" did it where no one could see him, why do so many people claim you can see "him" in the movie?

  • 5. If the sets were "see through", why are you saying no one could see him?

    6. If someone died, where can one find the death certificate? Where is the body buried? How about a police report? Note from a coroner? Anything? Hello?

Oh, wait. Reading this over again, you're actually saying the backdrops were able to see through. The backdrops could see? What could they see through?

    Anyway.

Which is more see through? These "backdrops" or your feeble lies?

  • (: I love this video! I tried to tell my friends this but we just got into a huge argument!

Even if there 'is' another wizard of Oz where that did happen.. who would pay THAT much attention?

  • Hi! Thanks! Ask you friends why the story never made the papers and there's no death certificate.

  • yea i said the same thing about no one seeing it but look to your left and theres a mysterious tree with a rope hanging from it do NOT pay attention to the flippin bird look to the LEFT peoplem the LEFT theres something else funny looking in the scene

  • How, exactly, does a tree look "mysterious"? And even if there is a rope there (there isn't), so what? There are a lot of ropes in movie studios.

  • nvm you obviously dont get what im tryin to say so forget it

  • No, it's just that I've heard hundreds of stories about this and that in the Wizard of Oz. None have any real fact in them, all are pretty vague. So, I have a habit of digging for something real in the stories. If you want me to believe you, you have to do better than, "there's a rope somewhere in the movie on a mysterious tree."

  • i dont know some other video pointed out and it looked fasicinating sorry for soundung Dumb or anything but yea it looked messed but no midget actually hung himself there was a radio interveiw with the director of WOZ and he said there was NO hanging AND that scene was cast before ANY of the munchkins where even cast with MGM so yea i know its not ture but i find it interesting and so..yea sorry for the fuss

  • I think you mean "And that's a mother fucking picture". Yes? If so, then yes. There is a picture in the video. Several in fact.

  • Right, right, right. The whole munchkin has never made sense to me as people don't vanish into thin air when they die. Someone would see it, there would have been a funeral It would have been in all the books about the movie.

  • (comment on your wizard of oz vid) but disney has edited their videos to cover stuff up 4 example "the rescures" naked girl photo in vcr version

  • The huge, huge difference is this: the Rescuer thing is documented and verifiable. This munchkin crap is not.

  • Thank you for this!!! Also Jerry Maren, one of the Lollipop kids, said that no munchkin committed suicide during the production.

  • Right. And he was pretty agitated about the rumors as I recall!

  • Well, who wouldn't be, considering how often they prolly had to deny it? LOL...in fact, Maren actually made an appearance @ an 05 outdoor screening of Oz on Long Island, NY, but I didn't get there in time for his Q&A session. :-(

  • Aw, bummer. I love Jerry.

  • Yeah, and being a game show fan, would've also loved to ask him about the Gong Show and why he departed after about a year....oh well, maybe next time.

  • I've already offered my proof. If you can prove otherwise, please do so. If someone was hanged, I would like to know the name, date of the hanging, papers in which the obituary was run, papers that carried the story about the hanging, etc. I will, indeed, "eat that" when you can offer some real proof that I am wrong. I'm sorry if the cartoon was drawn too tall. How tall is your imaginary munchkin friend?

  • dude you pwn man. tell off all the people who try to tell you otherwise. they cant respond LOL

  • And yet another one for the "hanging Munchkin" crowd has surfaced, this one on Qtpie7241's vid of the legend...witness the dialogue between myself and yet another musician, "elaynekicksass" , for your amusement. :-)

  • Yep. Well, you know, forget all you read in books, websites and documentaries. You should listen to her because she watched the Wizard of Oz on TV before you were born, so she's an expert. Actually, I watched it since '72 (maybe even earlier) and I never saw a shadow. Just another one of those "it's true because I say so" types.

  • thanks for uploading this I new it was a bird the hole time and I never heard of the roumor when I was a little girl and I thoght it was a bird when I first saw it. Anyways thanks for uplaeding this :)

  • Hi! You're so welcome.

  • You gotta admit the munchkin mafia story seems to have the ring of truth to it.

  • Since munchkins are fictional creatures and the person making up the story isn't providing any real facts (names, reliable sources, etc) no, it has no ring of truth to it. The only thing I'm not sure about is if it's a joke or an out and out lie.

  • It wasn't a hanging. The official story that did make the papers of the day is that one of the munchkins was shot during a break. There had been gambling taking place among the munchkins and one of them refused to pay his gambling debts. Because gambling was controlled by the munchkin mafia at the time, a contract was put out on said munchkin. While taking wall around the studios he was whacked. I have newspapers. I'm selling them on ebay. Trust me. No cartoon will prove me wrong.

  • What's the name of the newspaper? What's the name of the munchkin that was shot? Why was gambling being controlled by an imaginary race of creatures from a land that doesn't really exist?

  • Oh, and it looks like we've got another hopeless case on evelisse2000's debunking video...witness the argument between myself and a white rapper who goes by "rollerzwest". :-D

  • I swung on over and gave him a couple of earlobe thumpings. Maybe he'll come over here and try to argue with me, now. I don't seem to get as many braindead doofuses commenting on this video as I did on the old one.

  • Nice for a change, isn't it? LOL

  • Whoops! Spoke too soon. Now the story has morphed into the munchkin mafia putting out a hit on some deadbeat munchkin and icing him. It would really help if the believers in this nonsense could keep their stories straight.

  • Good Work!

  • And thank you again!

  • lol everyone is bashing TheBlueFlamingo..I really like this! And I do agree it is a crane

  • Everyone is bashing me? *pout* ...no one likes me... *pout*

  • TRUTH:

A midget named John Hirwarts wanted to be in the movie so badly when he didnt get the part he dressed up as a bird(he was mentaly chanlanged)and tied a rope aroung his neck a commited suicide.Somehow, someway he manedged to get into the scene. after the movie was finised they found his body and baired it somewhere in cailfornia. a picture was taken by the c.i.a and they lost it in the files. later(3 or 4 years later.) they found the photo and destroyed it because they didnt want trouble.

  • Mentaly chanlanged?

  • yes he was mentaly retarded.

  • Still waiting for you to cite a valid source on this.

  • And with piss poor writing skills like this, I don't feel you have any right to make fun of mentally challenged people. Seriously, I stopped trying to follow this mess of letters at "mentaly chanlanged").

  • i am not making fun of mentaly chalenged this is truth.

  • Then, cite a valid source. And buy a dictionary.

  • i know the name of the hanging munchkin John Hirwarts. TRUTH.

  • No one by that name listed in connection to this or any other movie. Cite your sources, please.

  • Stephen Cox's book "The Munchkins of Oz" has a complete listing of every Munchkin who ever appeared in the film...no John Hirwarts among them, so try again.

  • They just didn't list the "mentaly chanlanged" ones that dressed like birds. TRUCK I mean TRUTH.

  • So THAT'S why...amazing how the producers couldn't tell real birds from a man in a suit, either! LOL

  • also they had real tree's instaled into the movie!

  • Trees that could talk and throw apples?

  • LISTEN! the crew was on a crane can you see something that far up...NO and he hung himself when they were already out of sight and finally the munchkin scenes were shot WAY before this scene was shot. LEARN THE FACTS!

  • Cite your sources, please.

  • Yes, Blue Flamingo Productions was only a radio station back in the 1930s.

  • The concept is good. Getting the truth out there and teaching the gullible is wonderful. I don't like the title. Penn and Teller already have a show called "Bullshit", so you might want to think of something else. I think I know the video you're talking about, the ghost girl one. There's a guy here on YouTube that makes fantastic ghost debunking videos called Ictorana202. You might want to take a look at his video on that girl. It's very good!

  • Well, yes. But, the original didn't have any movie clips in it, either. It did have some copyrighted photos, though. There are so many videos out there showing the movie clips, but they don't really prove anything. This has always been about the text; the proof. The pictures and music are just fluff.

  • And re: the closing dedication, I'm deeply touched. :-)

  • Good. You were always around to help use logic and reason with the twits on the original and just thought you should know I really appreciated it.

  • I think I mght have commented on your video about this issue, and I was trying to find it again for some reason... (I really don't know why, LOL) Did you delete it? Just wondering, because I couldn't find it anywhere on YT.

  • Great remake...the animation had me LOL, especially the "human/crane" comparison! :-D

  • Cool. I tried to keep with the original text pretty much, but couldn't resist adding the human/crane thing.
