My cousins and I used to play this when we were little. Cousin Lee would be Dean Martin and my cousin Linda and I would be his ding-a-ling girls. And then our moms bought us girls Ding-a-ling outfits! OH THE MEMORIES~!!! :D
When Dean got married again, this time to Catherine Hawn, her first order of business was to get the operatic Golddigger (at far right) fired. It didn't escape Hawn's attention that this Golddigger almost always got a little too chummy with Dean on camera, and he wasn't exactly resisting. And, well, Dean was Dean, so.... whooosh... she was gone.
A man who could do it all and you are right there are a lot of talented people out there and just to think while doing the show he was making movies and performing in Vegas all at the same time. He made it all look so easy. Long live the "King of Cool"!!!!!!
I have a lot of audio recordings of these songs he sang with The Ding a Ling Sisters. The ding a lings also sang a short song by themselves and sometimes sand complete songs by themselves.
You couldn't even have a variety show like this today . I can't even think of someone who could host one successfully, and you just don't have that kind of talent out there today. Don't me wrong there are a lot of talented people out there today, but not the caliber of back then.
I've thought it over, and I am at a loss as well. I can think of current performers who could handle one special. But not a weekly variety show, no way, no how.
The only person that I believe that has the talent, wit and charm to pull off a veriety show today is Drew Carey! (Not Rosie O'donnel). Todays "stars" are so compartmentenalized they couldn't handle this. When I watched the Rosie Fiasco, I thought to my self, why didn't Drew Carey do this, now, the whole system is afraid of this amazing feat of entertainment...
Wow those song and dance girls are gorgeous plenty! (I like the first brunette) I wonder what ever became of them? Glam hairstyles of the early 1970s are the best. 50's & 60's too stiff and late 70's to outrageous.
What the World Needs Now... Wow ... Been a Dean fan for a long time and I always seem to discover snippets of songs I never knew he did. I am only 30 I missed on most of Dinos career. Thankfully I have a Grandma with good taste and grew up on him. Thanks for this!
i hear that the blonde is an alien … i dont see it tho

That's Renee Anderson (Alexandria Quartermaine on GH in the early 80's) on the right.

@Edgeofurbania Drew Carey??? I've worked with him... Great guy, but not even close to the talent Dean had.

What the world needs now is...more Ding-a-lings! Hats off to Steubenville's favorite son.
Just think, he threw off a goofy klutz (Jerry Lewis) and got a sexy bunch of golddiggers and dingalings...My hero!
