Personally, I think it would be great if apple would put a netbook of their out on the market. With the icreasing popularity of these tiny notebooks I believe it's quite possible that we might see an apple netbook pretty soon. They'd be able to pull it off I think. Especially in the areas that people complain the most about on netbooks such as the trackpad.
Closet thing to a netbook apple would come out with is the iPod touch, throw a keyboard on it and you got something is very compatible. the touch has the full internet, Word Processing, and touch screen would put ahead of the market.
I would love a "IPod tocuh netbook", just need a keyboard and charge 499 for 16 gig(cuz it's apple) and it would be perfect for switchers and people who just need internet and word processing.
History has showed that Apple will not drop their prices. I don't know why, OS X runs pretty good on a MSI Wind netbook. Apple should be fine with Jobs, but then again, history has showed different.
they do make a Apple netbook...its called a MacBook Air..but you see how much they are charging for that don't you? Apple don't do a lot of things they should be doing. First of all, they need to make a Mid Tower, imrpove the Mac Mini, and also like you said make a cheaper laptop.

I don't think Apple will ever make a sub $500 notebook. I also think Apple will be just fine without Jobs.
