Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 is my choice, runs perfectly on my 5 year old PC with Core2 Duo 6420 @3,2 and 4 Gb of ram. A bit slow at start, but no problems after that.

Starting from 2010 version Kaspersky keep me secure and happy.

In our tests, it was way too heavy. It really slowed down some older systems tested YMMV. Did you notice any slowdown of your system?

My config is i7-2600k@ 4ghz also I have 16gigs of ram and crossfired 6970 and an ocz agility ssd and I noticed almost no slowdown (when scanning cpu usage is couple of percents higher(5-10%). I used to have MS security essentials, which somehow failed to detect over 30 viruses on my PC, so I remembered the good ol' days when I Kaspersky ruled, I installed Kaspersky IS 2012 and it fixed my system :D

@DiegoJediSith I know what you mean. The problem with Comodo is their stock settings are not very effective. It's good if you have a little advanced computer know how to set it to be effective. Otherwise, It's best to avoid it altogether. MSE on the other hand, according to av-comparatives, is starting to impress me. I use it and the new version is alot better lately.

the older version of Bitdefender slowed down the speed of my internet to the point where I had no other choice but to uninstall it. The 2012 version of Bitdefender is acutally really good in terms of security, speed and price. I might just purchase a 2012 Bit-defender.

My father as Panda Antivirus and sometimes I will get an option to allow or deny a connection on some of the games we play online. In my personal experience, kasperky has suited my machines all-over, it doesn't slow down computer performance, friendly-user interface (I hate little maps that don't explain themselves), updates are fast, you don't get little notes saying that you "might" have a virus. I do a LOT of Torrent so yeah..it helps knowing that you're safe when you are having one-time stands with unknown data :D

Ya just mentioned the advantages , but never mentioned the fatal flaws some AV have , Avast will disable System restore , Bitdefender is the worst , disable system controling , can't show hidden files , can't change some system setting , people want anti virus not a virus take control of their systems in name of protection.

Norton is never and will never be good.

Stay away from Avast , Norton , and Bitdefneder , the rest are good.

I hate BitDefender. I have used it on multiple computers with multiple operating systems and never once has it installed correctly. Settings will revert to defaults when the computers are restarted and aspects of the software will randomly disable. This is testing on fresh windows installs as well OEM.

Norton (2012) is one of the best in terms of performance.

It's a massive improvement since older versions were terrible.

I still prefer F-secure or Kaspersky. Bitdefender if it didn't take so long to configure.

Norton is a bloody virus it self! Ever tried to uninstall it? I got a new comupter recently and it came pre installed. I did not want it so I clicked uninstall. It was chewing for 25 minutes, nothing happens. I had to use a little program from a competing security software company to remove the damn thing. I now have ESET and it seem to do its job, I'm happy with it! :)
