@FGN123 I think it was the amount of build-up to Shere Khan is what made him scary. Think about it. Almost right from the start he is mentioned, and he is feared by almost everyone who talks about him.

@comicshaun07 I completely agree, they do a good job with the build-up. But at the same time Shere Khan also established a solid template for silky, restrained villains that has been replicated in countless other Disney films (see Scar of the Lion King, Ursula in The Little Mermaid, etc.); and that in my view just comes off as more menacing than, say, Captain Hook in Peter Pan or Gaston in Beauty and the Beast. Shere Khan will scare you, and many of the others are too funny to be frightening.
