The biggest problem with this is that there is FIRE involved!!! if your giong to go to this extream use a heat gun from home depot...but for some strange reason this does work and some how you reflow your CPU/GPU you have very heat sensitive electronic parts such as Capacitors, Memory and anything else that is on the motherboard that you will kill in this process. Good Luck!!
To everyone bashing this... you guys are the retards. This guy is using ingenuity you lazy dumb asses. This is a last resort fix to a stubborn box that has had the legitimate repair done more than a handful of times. If half of you jackasses have worked with xboxs you would know this.
@Jblloyd89 agreed, I work in the professional rework and repair field for electronics assemblies, and as I was watching this I kept thinking "this guy would be a pretty good repair technician" if he had all of the right tools, he already has the ingenuity part down, so all in all good job to him
This guy is crazie but funny, I have shown a number of people this video and every one has laughed in disbelive, There is some smoke back here. Then hits it with scissors ha ha you legend. :)
From what I have seen of 99% of all the repair videos on YouTube for Xboxes this I have to admit is the 3rd most stupid thing to do I have seen! you do realize some kid is going to try this? Be a decent person unlike the 90% of all fake repair men robbing kid of their money using YouTube to learn how to repair and remove this video
you fucking moron, you don't simply replace the x-clamps with bolts!!! that does nothing!!!! and all these heat related "fixes" are actually breaking it more. i pray that this was a satire and you don't really believe this works... when you replaced your x-clamps you were supposed to clean your CPU and GPU and then re-apply thermal paste before reattaching your heat syncs. i hope you read this and realize that you could have avoided destroying your xbox with about an hours worth of effort.
@gamefreak22574 insulting will not change anything. Actually when replacing x-clamps, thermal paste was reapplied, and it worked for some time as on the rest of fixes. I just wanted to destroy it, and it worked back. Sold it working, and still works. So is not so stupid.... fucking moron...
@afterxleep "I have already replaced the X-clamps with bolts" that tells me nothing about the thermal paste and to decipher what i said i mean to say you didn't try this with a mindset of it working. i have been watching videos of people destroting their xbox's when they could have fixed them for little effort. seeing as you were trying to destroy it and it came out working... i am speechless...
@gamefreak22574 replacing the xclamps WILL fix most problem because it is applying pressure to the CPU and GPU and reconnecting some solders and those "heat related fixes" are the ONLY thing that will fix the console and only the really stupid ones cause more damage the heatgun fix is the best way to fix most problems and almost always works you are the fucking moron
@TheChickenrun3 and you know what i mean by the "fixes" i am speaking of the "penny fix" "the towel fix" and such errors where you purposely overheat your console. of course you need heat to fix them, but you need precise heat, as in heat you controll, not simply fry your console.
u so stupid just block the fans and tern it on till the 3 red light tern to 2 then pull the power out dont ternit of pull it strat out then let it coll douw walla iv dun this with 6 xboxs that all werk now
I see your problem - YOU TOOK OUT THE AIR BAFFLE! This 'stupid-looking' chunk of white plastic actually directs air over the heatsinks and out the back - no air baffle, not enough cool air going over the heatsinks!
Oh, and this method is one good way to melt all the platic parts attached to the motherboard, which will require new good parts...
And bashing the heatsinks while it's hot will not make the paste stick better - it will crush the solder balls, requiring a re-ball to sort...
This person is stupid putting the 360 on a cooker, but if you want to destroy your xbox then you might as well do it this way. I would have used a hot air gun to do this, that way you can direct the heat to where you want it, and not all over the xbox, and by using a hot air gun not only would it be safer, but you wont burn the console.
or you just overheat it you can do this when you put your xbox in a towel and wait for 15 min it overheat the xbox and will reset it just like an hard reeboot
@Xxpsphacksx Dude it wont reset. and it will defiantly wont be a hard reset. if u dont know anything about electronics. dont talk about it then. so people wont follow ur saying.
The only positive thing this kind of overheat will do is unwrap the bord thats why its working for some little time. the GPU isnt made for such hight temps while it is running. so it will damage over time.
Hey, you stupid kid! Excessive heat melted the plastic axclamp below! The fund will be short-circuited at the bottom, and they trade off things! Strength would not recommend to anyone!
@MesserAaron13 3 RRoD can mean anything and isnt limited to a power failure, the 3RRoD is usably displayed this way since the xbox isnt able to put anything on the screen anymore. there is a secondy code that will tell more about the exact problem. and the blinking center leds means there is no Disk-Drive connected.
The idea is melting the solder balls that connect the chip to the board
Guy is doinitwrong with all that heatsink tapping, and not removing the front panel wireless controller card and LED display ring panel (yes you can remove it easily.. jesus, lazy people..)
This is a great example that some people have no business taking apart complex electronics. Heating it up with a gas stove was bad enough but banging on the processors when it's hot enough to melt the solder is just completely retarded. At least it's a xenon board (non hdmi) and isn't worth much. Really though you have no way to tell how hot things are getting, the metal case was transferring heat and got so hot that you melted the ring of light lens. Things could have gone a lot worse though.
this method of repair is more ridiculous than the "oven fix" !
thanks for showing, i wouldnt have the guts to try it id get bitched at my gf hardcore, its bad enough i steal her blow dryer for gpu and ram reflowing...
all the rrod is the processor and the gpu solder melting the solution i found for this was to remove both processor and gpu very carefully with heat then get all the solder off of the board and the gpu and cpu then very carefuly with a fine tip iron just tin the backs of the connections and the ones on the board and i used a solder that melts at higher heat i made my own heat sync system too and had the curent xbox for 2 years and i leave it on every night and theres no issues
@1polaricat This strange part is. Its better for a hardsoldered processor to be on all day and night than one that is switched on and off frequently. since this will warp the bord over and over again.
All the heat guns, frying, blowtorch , towel wrapping is no good for fixing. It only makes the problem worst. I just say save up some money, save a headache and hand it to a professional where you can fix the problem once in for all.
would it not be easier to get an xclamp conversion kit rather that have xbox for breakfast?............Quote "I AINT NO FOOL, I AINT GETTING ON NO PLANE"
It fixed it because usually RROD is caused because of the heat caused by the cpu and gpu make the motherboard bend giving it bad connections, heating it and pushing down just unbends the xbox, pretty genius actually, but VERY dangerous
for all of you that dont know. Heating a xbox360 up in the microwave isnt good. but it actually can fix the rrod problem because it can reheat the thermal sink and actually rebind it self to the gpu and cpu.
this is retarded you know why the xbox get the fucking rrod ITS BECAUSE THE THERMAL COMPOUND HAS SEPARATED FROM THE FUCKING HEAT SINK AND GPU.... it does not take a fucking expert to just replace the thermal compound Fucking ammatures shouldn't be able to use any electronics
@fmpanic000 no it's because the motherboard flexes when it gets too hot. when that happens its puts stress on the solder on the cpu and gpu, and can cause the connections to crack. what he's trying to do in this video is to melt the solder to give it a better connection. not saying that this is the best method, but he's certainly made it work.
@fmpanic000 hmmm ive never heard of that before thanks for the insight.....it just make me a bit confused going to this much effort to fix a broken xbox when its not that expensive to buy a new one.
Dude, this is retarded. Don't do this, you'll burn your house down. Buy a new xbox, slims have no problems. I used to fix these pieces of shit for money lol. Just replace the x-clamps with screws and bolts and reapply more expensive grade thermal paste (arctic silver 5). Wreck on dem hoes and make buckzz.
Im pretty sure you want to avoid smoke... your a dumb ass and that smell is your board frying. Again. something you want to avoid. and to tell you the truth your very lucky that shit box turned on...
@afterxleep iv had my xbox 360 jasper version for a wile now and iv had no problem with it. the way to get rid of the red ring is to get rid of the dust that is on your south bridge and on your gpu. and cleared out of your fan. i have my xbox opened because i had dust built up.
"As you can see, it is melting the plastic here" - that blue round thing there is called "burning gas" did u know thats hot.....you fucking retarded shit face
this makes no sense.all those crazy xbox ring of death physical fixing videos make no sense.if its like that then why doesnt my tv work again when i fry it?
@afterxleep Have it required any repairs after other than shown in the video? Or it working without any faults since17.02.2009? Sorry for my Bad English.
I suppose as long as you dont overheat it to the point of melting and ruining shi then it should be fine. I would take the heatsinks off first though.... they are cooling the chips and also that high of temp probably ruins the thermal compound. Just my 2 cents.
Pretty bad idea to be honest. Stick to the heat gun method. To stop RROD from coming back I have to leave my JTAG out of its outer casing and use a little USB Fan on top of the GPU Heatsink. Does the job as the Temperature is 20+ Degrees lower than it is otherwise!
@stevie179 Ive had the machine for about 3 years and JTAGGED it last year. Its not scrap at all I need to use a better fan to improve the cooling system.
@1polaricat lol use electric cooker i did a REBALL of the GPU And CPU with a leaded solder wich was more stable with the heat of the xbox warming up you see MS use lead free solder because children use this << BAD EXCUSE lol any way lead free solder isnt as flexable as lead witch i one of the main sorces of the RROD problems error 0020 0102 and all other gpu and cpu failer
@afterxleep No its not the Jasper Version has 2 new Heat sinks and they have less Capaticors than this onethis one from what i see was made before 2008
@afterxleep No its not the Jasper Version has 2 new Heat sinks and they have less Capacitors than this on this one from what i see was made before 2008
dont touch the electronisc in side it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially if uve been touching metal, and u need the thing that brings the fans wind to the cpu!
frying it will Reflow it, and also make the solder nice n hot so it resolders a better join (*should put flux around the chips then putting the heatsink back on*)
This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen for an attempt to fix rrod. You're lucky that all those capacitors didn't explode in your face and kill you.

u shoulve removed da rf module b4 u put it on da oven..

I suppose as long as you dont overheat it to the point of melting and ruining shi then it should be fine. I would take the heatsinks off first though.... they are cooling the chips and also that high of temp probably ruins the thermal compound. Just my 2 cents.
frosty9595 11 months ago
Pretty bad idea to be honest. Stick to the heat gun method. To stop RROD from coming back I have to leave my JTAG out of its outer casing and use a little USB Fan on top of the GPU Heatsink. Does the job as the Temperature is 20+ Degrees lower than it is otherwise!
djdavedoc 1 year ago
@djdavedoc that means your jtag was scrap when u bought it..
stevie179 11 months ago
@stevie179 Ive had the machine for about 3 years and JTAGGED it last year. Its not scrap at all I need to use a better fan to improve the cooling system.
djdavedoc 11 months ago
This actually could work if you don't leave it there too long.
Max1636 1 year ago
well...you need to overheat it the first time to get rid of the RROD.
first make the fix,
then overheat it (NO fans) until 2 red LEDS are blinking (not 3)
then put the fans on and woala!

i tried this and all capacitors exploded
1polaricat 1 year ago 32
@1polaricat This idea will destroy your XBox 360. You are heating all things that DO NOT NEED TO BE HEATED. You only need 2 spots to be fixed.
ZaCkOX900 10 months ago 4
@1polaricat lol use electric cooker i did a REBALL of the GPU And CPU with a leaded solder wich was more stable with the heat of the xbox warming up you see MS use lead free solder because children use this << BAD EXCUSE lol any way lead free solder isnt as flexable as lead witch i one of the main sorces of the RROD problems error 0020 0102 and all other gpu and cpu failer

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen for an attempt to fix rrod. You're lucky that all those capacitors didn't explode in your face and kill you.
