Troy Critchley from Austrailia ( and Wylie, Tx) was the driver and Larry Price (the orgainizer & the fool you see in overall in the middle of the street) are the ones responsible for this tragedy.
Troy Critchley plead guilty to 28 charges of reckless assault and was sentenced to 18 months probation.
How can you kill 6 people and only get probation??????
On March 4, 2008, the McNairy County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Troy Critchley on six counts of vehicular homicide due to recklessness, a Class C Felony, and 22 counts of reckless aggravated assault, a Class D Felony. Neither Cars for Kids or the City of Selmer were named in the indictment.[9][10]
On March 20, 2008, Troy Critchley surrendered to authorities and was booked on the charges. Bond is set at $35,000.00. The trial was set for November 3, 2008.[10]

I was there.Brook Pope was the nicest girl I have ever met. So close to God and everything. I would sometimes go over to play Halo with her brother Daniel. Her parents were and are still devastated. Me and my mom visit them often. You can just tell. By seeing them. That they are torn apart. Still...

For all the criticism meted out towards our small town (much of which I agreed with) one fact remains-6 beautiful lives were lost and a community was shattered. i was in kfc at the window and saw everything that went on when my mom came to my table and looked out with me she looked at me and i was panicking and we prayed harder than ever we cried all week in selmer.
I had been involved in an accident the day before this happened and was on the same floor with some of the victims. The nurse told me this had happened.
I want to say, the people at the scene, doctors and the hospital staff were top-notch. I'll always be grateful for their kindness and care. I'm still carrying around a plate and 9 screws in my hip as souvenirs.
My wife has worked at this sonic for the last 4 yrs and was friends with most of the victims. If it was not for her being off that day, my family and i would have also been injured or worse. please remember these people in your prayers.

The Queensland-born, Texas-based Critchley was facing life in prison.
In the plea deal with Tennessee prosecutors and approved by the victims, the 37-year-old will be sentenced to 18 months of probation and a suspended one-year jail sentence.
Good - it was an accident, there were no guard rails, no protection for the crowd at all - if anything had have gone wrong (aside from the obvious), people would have died - this was negligence on the part of the organizers. As an Australian - I feel that even the sentence he received was to harsh, but then again, someone had to cop the punishment, but I think six deaths on your conscience is punishment enough.
Especially some of the families who are Christians. They should know and understand FORGIVENESS more than anybody. Because Mr.Critchley is no doubt going through a lot himself and will for the rest of his life. And for Christians to step up and show him the love and forgiveness that God has shown to them would mean a lot more than pointing fingers at him and demanding money. For an ACCIDENT!
And also the organisers city,pd,fd,etc. should have had more safety precautions, but the driver had the final say so. He did not have to take his car out there, nor did he have to stay in it as long as he did. It was all in his hands. But do not take me the wrong way I know he did not purposfully put anyone in danger. And I also do not think he should spend time in prison over it. I was there when it happened and knew one that was killed and many that was injured. And no the people on the side of the road did not know that a car like this was going to be out there, this event has been goin on for many years and it has always been short burnouts. They had no idea that a car was going to come screaming by them at close to 100mph.

I can't imagine what the friend went threw when she knew Scarlett died right there. i do agree there should have been more saftey involved there, but its still sad and people should show sympathy.

I saw the swollen bodies of two little girls... I saw the extreme dark blue eye shadow and the vibrant red blush they used to hide the bruises... , I think that is my Aunt Leona screaming out for my little cousin, Raven, in that clip. Listen carefully.. You hear someone scream Amy and then in a very similar voice the name Raven appears... the resemblance to my Aunt Leona's voice and that one is uncanny. She was across the road with Raven and Nicole's little brother, Riley, because he was scared of the noises from the car so they were leaving. She saw it happen. The scream at the funeral I was at sounded exactly the same.

We are not stupid. I was at this event. I go to the event every year. And every year it is the same thing, a few days of fun and the parade of cars. And every year these cars show their stuff by burning out. It just so happened that this year something bad happened. It doesn't mean we are stupid, it means that you need to live life like there is no tomorrow because you never know what is going to happen. Quit being jerks and have some compassion.

The throttle didn't get stuck. Troy did the proper burnout procedure for a Pro Mod car. There was no VHT or rubber laid down on the track, so when he let off the throttle (at the overalls guy), the car restored grip unevenly. This small weight transfer is seen after a burnout many times in any type of drag car. However, since the road they were doing this on sucked major ass, and there was 0% grip for any type of racing car, Troy left the road and hit a few people.
6 people died in that accident. A 15 year old girl, a 21 year old man...it was extremely terrible and those people who left stupid bullshit comments should have more respect. This was a car show for KIDS...there were children there...some who got seriously injured. Don't be a prick.

This was a poorly set up public demonstration of the power of these cars, as for people who post comments bashing it or other forms of autosport, you really need to take a good look at how you are representing yourself and the type of racing you are involved in, if any.
this was a horrible tragedy, i was looking forward to seeing Troy at the Dragstock IV event in October, but he's anounced that he'll be sitting out the rest of the season.

Okay, the driver wasn't from here! So get that out of your head! And I know plenty of people from here who spend almost all their time drag racing! Things happen! And for those of you who blame the drive, I dont completely blame him because everybody knew that there would be drag racing that night and that's why a lot of people didn't go. So it was enter at your own risk and not cross the road when you hear racing car revving their engine! So it was a mutual ACCIDENT!

Blame whoever you want. The driver basically murdered them all. He knows how many safety precautions are taken and how seriously taken they are at racing events the car/driver undoubtedly participated in. Fucking redneck idiot driver I hope he dies in a fire. What a waste of oxygen. It takes an insane amount of responsibility just to OWN a vehicle like this let alone drive it on the STREET at any speed. That's so sad. That car should have never have been on a regular street.
I read where there was 8 killed and 12 hurt at the California 200, they were standing within 50 feet of the track. So sad, my prayers go out to the families.
Please keep your family a safe distance from racing vehicles.

Who's at fault is A whoever organized the event for allowing people that close to the track and B the people themselves for being that close to the track. People need to take accountability for their own safety. Punishing the driver send the wrong message.

I was there.Brook Pope was the nicest girl I have ever met. So close to God and everything. I would sometimes go over to play Halo with her brother Daniel. Her parents were and are still devastated. Me and my mom visit them often. You can just tell. By seeing them. That they are torn apart. Still...
But this was terrible and proves that horrible things happen across the world that you think, "Ah, that would never happen to me!" Well we aren't exactly New York City... And that happened...

This happened in my little town and tears still come to my eyes when I drive past the Sonic. For all the criticism meted out towards our small town (much of which I agreed with) one fact remains-6 beautiful lives were lost and a community was shattered. I had been involved in an accident the day before this happened and was on the same floor with some of the victims. The nurse told me this had happened.
I want to say, the people at the scene, doctors and the hospital staff were top-notch. I'll always be grateful for their kindness and care. I'm still carrying around a plate and 9 screws in my hip as souvenirs.

Good - it was an accident, there were no guard rails, no protection for the crowd at all - if anything had have gone wrong (aside from the obvious), people would have died - this was negligence on the part of the organizers. As an Australian - I feel that even the sentence he received was to harsh, but then again, someone had to cop the punishment, but I think six deaths on your conscience is punishment enough.

And also the organisers city,pd,fd,etc. should have had more safety precautions, but the driver had the final say so. He did not have to take his car out there, nor did he have to stay in it as long as he did. It was all in his hands. But do not take me the wrong way I know he did not purposfully put anyone in danger. And I also do not think he should spend time in prison over it. And yes I feel like many of the families are being very money hungry.

I was there when it happened and knew one that was killed and many that was injured. And no the people on the side of the road did not know that a car like this was going to be out there, this event has been goin on for many years and it has always been short burnouts. They had no idea that a car was going to come screaming by them at close to 100mph.

Bad decision the driver made to do this on a public road, no amount of public peer pressure to do this should have swayed a 20yr drag racing veteran. He regrets his decision now but it's too late to turn back his ignorant decision. There is a reason 1/4 drag racing tracks have concrete barriers. Bless the families who lost loved ones.

I saw the swollen bodies of two little girls... I saw the extreme dark blue eye shadow and the vibrant red blush they used to hide the bruises... , I think that is my Aunt Leona screaming out for my little cousin, Raven, in that clip. Listen carefully.. You hear someone scream Amy and then in a very similar voice the name Raven appears... the resemblance to my Aunt Leona's voice and that one is uncanny. She was across the road with Raven and Nicole's little brother, Riley, because he was scared of the noises from the car so they were leaving. She saw it happen. The scream at the funeral I was at sounded exactly the same.

The families of the dead and injured should par-take in a class action law suit for millions against Mr Crichely and the organizers of this even for emotional damages. Money may not bring back family members or heal a broken leg but it will hold those accountable for their actions.

The throttle didn't get stuck. Troy did the proper burnout procedure for a Pro Mod car. There was no VHT or rubber laid down on the track, so when he let off the throttle (at the overalls guy), the car restored grip unevenly. This small weight transfer is seen after a burnout many times in any type of drag car. However, since the road they were doing this on sucked major ass, and there was 0% grip for any type of racing car, Troy left the road and hit a few people.

....Also, assomeone who is interested in many forms of racing, i would like to point out that this is not drag racing. This was a poorly set up public demonstration of the power of these cars, as for people who post comments bashing it or other forms of autosport, you really need to take a good look at how you are representing yourself and the type of racing you are involved in, if any.

Shame on everyone here who posted comments comparing these people to trash and saying they deserved to die. This was a horrific accident in which seven human lives were lost and many others were scarred. 3 out of the 7 victims were under 18; think about the parents who have lost a child, the siblings who have lost their brothers and sisters. May the victims of this tragedy rest in peace and the families and friends who lost loved ones be able to cope and recover from their loss.

Throttle didnt get stuck. You can clearly hear him lift as he passes the guy in the overalls. When he lifted, the rear tires slowed down, finally started to hook. One hooked more or before the other, and it shot him sideways...at that point it was all over. Plain and simple. Now please...everyone quit thinking they are a f'n genious!
