Because they don't love Pete for doing the windmill. What Pete did was to become a guitarist with his own style. Instead of putting his power towards doing solos, he instead has been an acclompished rhythm guitarist. He's also the major songwriter in The Who.

correct, he speared his hand in Tacoma and I think the story was he saw a hand surgeon soon after in the ER and was told he was lucky that it went between two tendons, otherwise it would have been much worse. I think the injury that affected his playing more was actually a fall off his bike in the 90s when he hurt his wrist, but ironically I think he mentioned it rejuvenated his soloing becuase he couldn't go back to playing quite the usual manner

I live in Washinton state and I've had two surgeries (Carpal Tunnel and Trigger Finger) performed by the same doctor in Tacoma that operated on Pete Townshend's hand. The doctor himself told me the story and also the cool things that Pete Townshend did as a way of thanks (backstage passes, extra-special seats, etc.).

I think wikipedia made a mistake (common) but I may be wrong, but I heard from more official sources that it was the strings. Perhaps he jammed into the whammy bar, but if you were to drive it through, that means you have a metal bar sticking through your hand which sounds highly unlikely.

No doubt, every air guitarist alive needs to credit Townsend as inspiration. The guy just plays with such attitude, passion and ferocity - even if he didn't invent the powerchord, he certainly perfected it! Not to mention he wrote some of the greatest rock songs of all time.

@BDFPA, Paco is a tremendous guitarist and I've been a long-time fan. But perhaps you ought to broaden you horizons just a bit to a few other genres of music. Blue is a beautiful color, but there are many others to appreciate, no? Plus, I just can't see Paco smashing his classical guitar into a mountain of HiWatt amps cranked to ear-bleeding volume and screaming feedback - somehow it just wouldn't be as big a testosterone moment! No other band epitomized rock music as well The Who - PERIOD!!!

However, i recognise skill when i see it and Paco is superior in every aspect of the guitar in comparison to Pete. Furthermore, music is completely subjective and in my opinion there are many bands that epitomized rock to a greater extent compared to The Who. PERIOD!!!!!!!!

Paco's great, in his own style. But so is Pete, yet in an entirely different way. I've been playing guitar about 33 years. I love classical, jazz, blues, country - ALL types. Does Pete have the chops or technical virtuosity of Paco? Of course not. But then again, I don't listen to VIRTUOSITY, but to MUSIC!
