Not that this isn't impressive or I'm saying I would do it, but it's not as foolish as it first appears. He's actually tethered to the container via his left wrist, underneath his long sleeve shirt to a climbing style harness under his pants. That's why he never lets go of the rig. The shot where he's hanging by his ankles is an entirely different skydive.
