  • and this year the national Jamaican bobsleigh team will do it again in the Olimpics! love that team! :)

  • Ya Boi. These songs raggae to the fullest.

  • Yes, it is. The song is played more than any other song about Jamaica.

  • So the top 5 songs are based on the ones that are played the most rather than the ones that are more popular with people? Just because the national anthem is played more than any other it doesn't necessarily make it the best Jamaican song. Come on now we're Jamaican we can do better than this!!

  • HOLD ON!! With all the brilliant musicians and artists we got in and from Jamrock you mean to tell me that the number one song on the countdown is the national anthem written by some british colonial bloke!? Are you for real!!!

  • @SISTAHTEEK all the Jamaicans are "colonialists", since Jamaica was a desert island, hu :)

  • Jamaica was not a desert Island a population of native people known as the Tainos lived there. There were also the Caribs and some Arawaks that lived in the Caribbean too. The Islands may not have been densely populated but they certainly weren't deserted. Besides which the comment I made referred to having the the top song of the Island being written by a rep of the colonial power as opposed to ascendants of the enslaved people bought to the Island. I don't consider these people "colonialists"

  • @SISTAHTEEK Hi Sista Teek, they were "forced colonialists", maybe. that's very interesting what you told me, thanks, I had no idea. obviously you're an expert. I made a paralell w/ Portugal and Brasil: today Brasilians call us Portuguese "colonialists" and they don't see they are PT descendants. True Brasilians are the natives. Cheers!

  • In my dictionary colonialist means someone who has control over a dependent area or group of people. As far as I'm aware enslaved Africans in Jamaica had no control over any areas or people, not even themselves. They were not forced colonialists they were forced inhabitants and forced labour. I'm not an expert I've just read a few books and spoken to some historians. I don't know much about Brazil but I've read heard and seen that there are about 20+ different classifications of people based

  • on their colour and that the darker you are the worse your circumstances and the worse you are treated. Its not hard to see why a darker skinned Brazilian would call a Portuguese a colonialist, some historical Brazilian films and programs I've seen make it quite clear who is favourable and who is not regardless of heritage.

  • You assume "dark" Brasilians have hard feelings against Portuguese because they were "colonized". Man, you are a bit obsesed about skin color, don't you? Hope you're not a racist! I despise racism!

  • @SISTAHTEEK I'm aware of colonialism and slavery. And I have dictionary too :) racism, colonialism, and slavery did not happen only on thet period and among those peoples.

  • *sigh Listen leondenis00 you are the one who started talking about Brazilians seeing you Portuguese as colonialists. My original point was what the top song of Jamaica is and who it was written by. I think your understanding of the term racism & my understanding is very different so no I don't consider myself a racist, whether you do or not is your business. When your darker skinned having an "obsession" as you call it with skin colour can become automatic due to the way you get treated.

  • The national anthem of Jamaica was made by ",some british colonial bloke" you said. I really tought there were no people in Jamaica before. Just that, Sista :)

  • PS - Glad to know you "don't consider yourself" a racist. But if you are, I hope that next life you born white, yellow or red :)
