  • Is there a chord quality you can identify in the A# area or is it just a lydian section?

  • Great stuff man I watch all of your vids. Tell me though does the Steveness wear off on to you after a while?

  • I just subscribed... Thx Dave... My new guitar teacher... but I play Bass ... got a guitar though.. shut up and play , Bob

Are you kidding? That's Dave's party piece. Go listen to it off of Steve Vai's Live in the Astoria, London DVD. Available commercially.

  • what ibanez s that?? Is it custom?

  • just like any Strat.

  • I am watching your solo spot on "Where the Wild Things Are". Face melting!! Do you get one of these every show?

  • yup.

  • Working with Steve would be like my dream job. Other than being a professional guitarist myself. I am dying to see him live. Im definitely going to have to travel outside of Iowa for that. I can totally see how working with him would be educational. Whenever I see instructional videos from him I always get great ideas for my own playing. And btw nice playing. You've definitely been hanging around Vai. Thanks for sharing.

  • i really need to start learning some theory after 5 years of playing im starting to really want to know what i'm doing and why it sounds the way it does.

  • daveweiner . com / lessons

  • sir come to philippines!!!!!!

  • if i had to describe steve's playing in one word, i'd say that it as almost spiritual. It seems that when steve plays the guitar, it's not just a guitar, but a part of him. The guitar is an extension of himself, and his music is a piece of his soul. At least, that is what i believe.

  • Great stuff man. Do usually play seven-strings?

  • Since 93. But not so much anymore.

  • Why did you stop using them

  • I still use them, just not exclusively. I find 6's offer better tone, playability and feel.

  • OK, thanks a bunch man.

  • Thanks for taking the time Dave. Your an unreal guitar player

  • Thx very much.

  • Any advice for aspiring guitar players?

  • STEVE KICKS ASS... just pointing the obvious, but i have to say you are fantastic player too "A player worth playing with Steve" xD

  • actually from 5:28 to 5:33 sounded a lot more like joe sat. He usually uses a lot of legato playing in major scales.

  • Hey out to you Dave from Canada, wow very nice playing. How did you end up playing with Steve. By the way check out my wifes cousin Aldo Vaccaro on youtube. You will be cleaved form the planet.

  • tham thats something steve would actualy play

  • nice guitar budy! lack??

  • i think you answered your own question.

  • this may sound thick but were do you get the tab from or music. because i really like his lessons very Inspiring and give you a lot of new things too and try help plz

  • more info --->

  • Dave Weiner rocks forever!

  • He reserved the episode 7 for Steve hehe..

  • Yeah I noticed that too, haha.

  • Oh by the way man, could you tell me/us the title of the intro/outro song? I'm assuming it's an original

    Thanks a lot

  • Thx! Intro and outro music info is at the end of each vid.

  • Love those 'Vai chords'. Maj9 chords are awesome, great vid man

  • damn dave u nailed steve's playing style right on the head.

  • stop talking!!! just play!

  • Explanation is necessary to understand the full potential.

  • definately, i cant play guitar myself, but have been dying to for some time. So to hear thoughts on the instrument is good for me so I can understand more about the instrument im literally weeks away from picking up and beginning to play. to quote nelson from the simpsons: 'what you playin' polly wolly doodle? well it sounds polly wolly craapy!' lol - i might just start with 'for the love of god', im sure thats easy to play............... :S

  • I agree that the "inspired by" is awesome!

I think Dave and Steve foil well in their musical personality. They are a great musical match.

  • Im mean wow 2:24 :)

  • wow 2:34

  • Dave, this episode will be a classic. Many Thanks!

  • I know you're not really a tapper Dave, but if I can suggest one riff of the week, I'd suggest an "inspired by Steve Vai tapping riff of the week". I'd love to see what you can say about it!

  • Definitely. Steve has such an awesome unique tapping style

  • Wow, very good. I'm gonna have to put some of those into my playing.

  • do something inspired by fredrik thordendal... *evil laughter*

  • Wow Dave, thanx a lot for this week's ROTW, there is so much in there!

It's funny because I now just realized why I liked these progressions so much in my playing, because I've been listening to a lot of Steve over the years.

  • LOL. At 3:39 you sound so bored that it's just a major chord.

"Hmph this one here is major. Not GOOD enough for extentions and suspensions..."

  • I should have this down by next year....:)

  • Excellent lesson as usual, Dave. I see you have been using a new custom Ibanez lately. Would you please share with us what kind of pickups you are using?

  • DiMarzio Bluesbucker 7s

  • smooth :D

  • did you use the right hand side of the jemini?

  • green channel

  • Very nice Davey Wavey

  • Awsome video! I'm always stunned of the greatness they have! by the way maybe a weird question but please anserw what kind of Camera are you using because it is so good quality!

    Cheers

    Rob

  • zoot allures

  • Yep. Pretty much.

  • In fact, I vote for a BONUS "Inspired By: Frank Zappa!" PLEASE.

  • This was great. I can never figure out his chordial stuff...

  • So, is that Jemini worth the buy? I'm thinking about getting the thing

  • WOW, I think you are beyond a lot of players, you can walk almost on any territory, and on top of that, you teach how to do it! :D

hey dave did you came up with this steve vai like tensions?, did you just improvised or had somethin' written before you start?, you really impress me ÔoÔ

  • This, like every ROTW, is improvised.

  • Steve is amazing and so are you! I love your lessons! If only I could play that great! lol

    -Blair

  • what could be a better birthday present for me than an inspired by steve vai riff of the week? absolutely nothing from youtube.

  • How did you become so diverse? How much of a role do you think college played in that? And what was studying music in college like?

  • The desire to study various genre, and then doing so, will make you a diverse player.

  • this is a good stuff. would love to see more of this.

  • I was waiting for this one ;) Keep up the sick videos Dave.

  • nice playing, i wish to be as diverse as you AND steve vai in the future :)

  • Hey Dave ! Great lesson again !

Just a question I've been asking myself for quite a long time now :

How do you practice when you play in such a giant band?

Do you have huge special room or something? How often do you repeat together? Are you more working on your own riffs. Is Steve just sending you the stuff he did and you come up with something for the rythm?

    Thx again :)

  • Great lesson Dave. All Steve's esence is catched perfectly. Thanks.

    Regards from Madrid

  • 'like the wind' thats right...I never thought about it like that
