dude, my mom stepped on one of these things, and the blood from the insect ate a hole through the bottom of the shoe! These things have acid blood, i'm telling you.
@WmReinhardt Here on Brazil there are some ants that have a very very resistant head and huge "fangs". Locals used them as stiches since their head gets stuck on ur skin pretty painful, and badass ants, i couldnt smash their heads with my whole strengh(u cant smash it with ur feet or ur hands, never tried to do it with a hammer tho).
In California, the Jerusalem cricket is known as a potato bug. Its large, human-like head has inspired both Native American and Spanish names for the Jerusalem cricket. For example, in Mexico they are referred as Nino del la tierre, or child of the earth. Although many Mexicans believe they eat babies, they don't. They just have a baby-like head.
As is true for other large, arthropods (e.g. solfugids), there are a number of folk tales regarding Jerusalem crickets which are simply untrue; first and foremost, they are not venomous. However, they can emit a foul smell and are capable of inflicting a painful bite - but neither is lethal, as some of the tales would suggest. They also do not cry like children, nor do they rub their legs together to make sounds.
@xNBKxRAMuOUT559 Like I've said many times, don't be ignorant all your life, look at the science, they are HARMLESS or I certainly would not handle them!
@xKJx25 dude I agree. When I was a kid, a good friend of mine rolled a rock over and got bit by one of these right in the meaty part between the thumb and index finger. If you ask him, he wouldn't say it wasn't very painful as WmReinhardt stated; it still stung a bit. Even though he cleaned it he still got a small infection with yellow excretion from the bite probably caused by whatever bacteria was on this things mandrels. The street name for these in New Mexico is Child of the Earth.

They make noise by thumping their legs against their abdomen or drumming their abdomen on the ground. They are harmless but still freak me the F*CK out.
