I do hate that people misuse 'less' when they mean 'fewer', but it's about on a par with people ending their sentences with prepositions.

For example: "You use 'fewer' when you're talking about things you can apply numbers to."

One slight nit.

It's entirely correct to use "less" to things that you can "apply numbers to", if those things are actually continua.

So "less people" is wrong, because dividing people into parts is illegal in most states, but "less than three days" is correct, because you can divide a year into smaller parts. Same with "less than ten metres".

I might add that Jack did not get any of his examples wrong in the video, but I thought I might clarify.

The use of less with a countable noun has already become correct in some kinds of (perhaps non-standard) English and I think it's only a matter of time before it becomes correct in standard English.
