Yes, many will judge you and have preconceptions from the moment they see you. But if you are polite, and don't live up to the typical gaijin stereotypes... Then they will say "hey, hes not so bad..."
It's all a matter of people being willing to give you a chance, which doesn't happen much with foreigners of any country.
But yes, I'm certain that IF you did end up showing that you're not some stereotypical weaboo gaijin who goes around saying かわいい and 馬鹿 not actually being able to read it in anything but Romaji, then I would find that a slight disrespect to my language.
And if all you know about the Japanese culture is from Anime, I would take that as a major disrespect.
