To those who mentioned that 13 sucks: it does. At least, compared to 7. Nice graphics. Good combat system. But I felt like a hamster running through a tube when I played it. Until I think the last two hours, no free roam, no side quests, no towns. Just one story event after another.
@nostalgicbadger I agree, the linearity is the only flaw, but I didn't even have that much of a problem with it. But other than that, the music was great, the graphics were great, and the combat system was amazing. In short that game doesn't deserve nearly as much hate as it gets.

They are both classified as Tetra or Ancients and Shin-ra, an orginization in the game had her captive, trying to learn more of the ancients and their powers. Sephiroth was originally in with Shin-ra as something called a soldier first class. He later found out they had betrayed him and he was some sort of experiment to them. So he decided to take down Shin-ra and the whole world with it using a materia called black. And now I'm out characters lol.

@AbbiXIII people dont like 13 because its completely linear which is contrary to the final fantasy title itself. the story was awesome. they should have sacrificed the amazing graphics for a little more depth and playability. people hate games nowadays cuz the focus is too much on graphics. they need to take it back to basics.
@AbbiXIII I completely agree with everything. I just want to make one small, insignificant point. I don't want to seem like one of the graphics whores out there, but they DO play a significant part in the overall game play experience. But people's opinions change with the times. I mean, 15 some-odd years ago, people thought the graphics on the N64 were kick-ass, that nothing could top them, then along came GameCube, then DS, then the Lite, then Wii, and so on. Things change, accept it.
I'll keep that in mind for when the developers start producing quality games again...
FPS and race lovers are lucky considering recent games, but if you like Adventure/RPG and similar kinds of games you're royally screwed (only a few good releases per year, and not every year).
@Seymour13 well there are jrpg's over in japan not in english that americans havent gotten a chance to see much of, like the Tales series, but still we need more rpgs.

As a general rule of thumb, original pieces of art tend to be vastly superior to "fanservice" forms of media.
It's why FF7 is superior to any of its spin-offs/sequels/movies and why FFX far exceeds FFX-2 in terms of depth, artistic value, and meaning.
It's also for this reason why I am glad there have been no additions to the continuity of FF6. It's just so beautiful as is, all it might need is a 3-d remake but no sequels/prequels please...
I thought FF13 was pretty bad. Never played X-2 but if it was worse than 13 than that is a shame as well. But this stuff, I played FF7 over a decade ago and I still catch my mind playing the music spontaneously after over ten years. That is true brilliance

There are no bad Final Fantasies, there are better and worse ones, thats all. I've played, completed and loved pretty much every FF game out there, I liked some alot more than others, but by no means were they bad.

NONE of the Final Fantasy games have the same storyline. They are all different. The only one with a continuing story is with what was associated with FFVII and FFX. but as for the actual numbered series, none are canonical.
@XMilleniumProd Actually, in FFIV : TAY... FFI, III, IV and V were all implied to be connected; moreorless, all the Final Fantasy games where the "Crystals" are a major plot device.

Well, none of the games in the main canon really share much of a plot, except the Crystal Myth, but Crystal Chronicles has that too... Oh well. There not a "number" or an offshoot of one, so i dont think they really count.
FFVII doc was good just cuse its diff. dont mean it aint good but ya X-2 sucked but in X-2 i do like how they showed all the things from FFX very few game do that
FinalFantasy 7 had the best story in my opinion(I've played all of them apart from 11). Because it had no speech dialog so you had to loose yourself in it and imagine the true emotion it had to offer.
The graphics wernt top noch but i think thats the best they've made yet.
The newest FF 13 was a true disappointment in my opinion. I bought that game 3-4 months ago and i still havent completed it because i cbf to play it. It is so boring.
@littlejon10 XIII's battles were fun, as well it had SUPERB graphics. but the story is a tad confusing, it just didn't feel like a final fantasy game. I want to see what the hack n' slash vs. XIII is gonna have?! (also AGITO)
@DreamFlareous I did too. And I'm a huge critic of bad games. FFX-2 was just a giant breath of fresh air for the heavy storied FF games of the past. It was a needed break in the seriousness. I think that most people who didn't like it probably didn't understand that.
Meh, every final fantasy up to 10 were pretty good for their time. 10's systems were good, but the characters and storyline were fairly weak. It went downhill from there. Let's see what 13 brings.
Final Fantasy IX was my personal favourite. VII was good but fanboys like the type that I see have commented on this video hyped the game to be this 'life-changing experience' and so I expected too much from it and was left severely disappointed. Though I did like Final Fantasy VII, it remains my least favourite of the series simply because it was ruined for me.

@Neogothic how old were you when FFVII came out? If you were like me, growing upwith only FF2(IV) and FFIII(VI), FF Crystal chronicles, and then being introduced to FFVII, And it's jaw-dropping 3-D graphics and in-depth storyline, It'd be life-changing for you as well.
I was 8 when VII came out I believe. I can understand, for those who play it before any other of the series' installments that it is an amazing experience but it's folly to expect the same reaction from anyone playing the game for the first time. I was disappointed due to the fact that, quite simply, "I'd played better" (from a personal point of view) beforehand and I'm not talking about graphics here either.
How fucking stupid and ingnorant do you have to be? 14 games are out and 1 game was worse than the rest(X-2), BUT it wasnt anywhere near as bad as you make it out to be.
@LordSande They are just following everyonelse like sheep. Yeah X-2 was worse than the rest but it was the first FF to have a sequel. FFVIII and XIII are my personal favourites.

He means Sephiroth, because that's his opinion. Don't start a nerd rage fight over what boss was the best. It's a matter of opinion because they don't exist in the same world. Also, don't bring up any fighting game where they do exist together because they only do in said game for the mechanics of gameplay and no other reason.

But the final boss of FFX was Yu Yevon...that doesn't make sense, who the fuck is Yu Yevon? I wanna kill sin! Well sin's not the last boss. He's not even the second last boss. He's the THIRD LAST.
At least the game doesn't just pop up with a random final boss (unlike FFIX).
If you paid attention when you were talking with Yunalesca in Zanarkand, she explains that the real reason that Sin keeps coming back is because of Yu Yevon and the Final Aeon.
The party therefore decided to take out Yu Yevon, as he is the cause of Sin being such a persistent problem.
I read that, but that's the very first time you even hear of Yu Yevon, at the very end of the pilgrimage in Zanarkand. Sin had character development. Sin was the inevitable, colossal being that could toy with you, then crush your bones or leave you washed up in an uncharted territory cold, hungry and lonely, depending on if it liked you or not. Sin is how villains should be made. Heartless gods of vengeance that you swear to destroy once and for all.
You clearly weren't paying attention to IX's plot either then. Necron was the heart of the Iifa Tree and the creator of mist. He arose when Kuja destroyed the worldstone as basically the reaper of the planet. The worldstone essentially kept Necron from arrising and returning the world to nothing, as per Garland's warning. The only reason he appears so 'random' is pecause it was never really said that the destruction of existance would come in the form of a 'reaper' so to speak.
That's the main story behind FF7, Jenova is essentially a malignant cancer that came from a far away place, unknown amongst the stars. She's an alien, but the psychotics in Midgar (hojo) fucked up and imbued a bunch of people with her cells. Thusly plaguing the entire planet with Jenova Cells, granting her immortality essentially. Until FF7AC when the Holy Rain purifies the world by Aerith's influence.
Seph Controlled Jenova...even AFTER his apparent death...and many speculate that the only reason he was defeated was because he was busy controlling meteor AND holy.
Sephiroth was trying to control the world. Research the story line and watch AC. He mentions taking the planet by force for his mother and riding it through the cosmos as a vessel to find another planet to dominate. Also, he is evil. He isn't acting out of insanity, he's acting out of revenge for what SHINRA made him into and for what the world did to his mother. He thinks she is the rightful owner of the planet, even though she is a shapeless alien and not actually a female human.
11 and 1 do count. They're Final Fantasy as well. And so will 14 when it comes out. Just because it's an MMO doesn't mean it's void of label.
Even against the wills of fans, X-2 counted too, and Dirge of Cerberus...
The only one that doesn't really count is that 'Spirits Within' movie, which we all know was just a tack on of the Final Fantasy label to help convince people to buy it.
its not that I dont count them as Final Fantasies, its just that the way there story develops is much different than the others so they're really incomparable. I also played FFXI a lot.
@LawlMaster I didn't think Spirits Within was that bad, some people expected it to have something to do with the games, but no it was completely different from all, just like the games have nothing to do with each other and have their seperate stories.
@LawlMaster dirge of cerberus is actually pretty important to the main storyline of FF7 so i find it strange as to why people wouldn't consider part of final fantasy

actually thats not quite true, in square-enix'es FF7 book, they state that sephie had control of jenova the whole time he was in the northern crater , he was the main villian through and through, cloud was his puppet and jenova was his strings
It'd be great if they made a movie about what happened when The Cetra fought Jenova, and how some of them survived (including Aeris's ancients). Heh heeh..
He was a great villain, in Final Fantasy VII. Then everyone put him on a pedestal, and he's become somewhat of an anti-hero, as some consider Jenova having the relentless hold on all of his moves.
You take away Jenova, you take away bad Sephiroth.

Sephiroth is the same in logical senses. Humanity pissed him off so he wants to end them. He was lied to his entire life. I find his approach wrong yes, but I still can't see him as evil. Evil is used way too loosely anymore.

FinalFantasy 7 had the best story in my opinion(I've played all of them apart from 11). Because it had no speech dialog so you had to loose yourself in it and imagine the true emotion it had to offer.
The graphics wernt top noch but i think thats the best they've made yet.
The newest FF 13 was a true disappointment in my opinion. I bought that game 3-4 months ago and i still havent completed it because i cbf to play it. It is so boring.

@DreamFlareous I did too. And I'm a huge critic of bad games. FFX-2 was just a giant breath of fresh air for the heavy storied FF games of the past. It was a needed break in the seriousness. I think that most people who didn't like it probably didn't understand that.

Meh, every final fantasy up to 10 were pretty good for their time. 10's systems were good, but the characters and storyline were fairly weak. It went downhill from there. Let's see what 13 brings.

Final Fantasy IX was my personal favourite. VII was good but fanboys like the type that I see have commented on this video hyped the game to be this 'life-changing experience' and so I expected too much from it and was left severely disappointed. Though I did like Final Fantasy VII, it remains my least favourite of the series simply because it was ruined for me.

@Neogothic how old were you when FFVII came out? If you were like me, growing upwith only FF2(IV) and FFIII(VI), FF Crystal chronicles, and then being introduced to FFVII, And it's jaw-dropping 3-D graphics and in-depth storyline, It'd be life-changing for you as well.

I was 8 when VII came out I believe. I can understand, for those who play it before any other of the series' installments that it is an amazing experience but it's folly to expect the same reaction from anyone playing the game for the first time. I was disappointed due to the fact that, quite simply, "I'd played better" (from a personal point of view) beforehand and I'm not talking about graphics here either.

In any typical RPG, the final boss is the big villian... who was the final boss? Sephiroth.
You kill jenova beforehand, and Sephiroth doesn't change, well for the better anyway.

At least the game doesn't just pop up with a random final boss (unlike FFIX).
If you paid attention when you were talking with Yunalesca in Zanarkand, she explains that the real reason that Sin keeps coming back is because of Yu Yevon and the Final Aeon.
The party therefore decided to take out Yu Yevon, as he is the cause of Sin being such a persistent problem.

I read that, but that's the very first time you even hear of Yu Yevon, at the very end of the pilgrimage in Zanarkand. Sin had character development. Sin was the inevitable, colossal being that could toy with you, then crush your bones or leave you washed up in an uncharted territory cold, hungry and lonely, depending on if it liked you or not. Sin is how villains should be made. Heartless gods of vengeance that you swear to destroy once and for all.

You clearly weren't paying attention to IX's plot either then. Necron was the heart of the Iifa Tree and the creator of mist. He arose when Kuja destroyed the worldstone as basically the reaper of the planet. The worldstone essentially kept Necron from arrising and returning the world to nothing, as per Garland's warning. The only reason he appears so 'random' is pecause it was never really said that the destruction of existance would come in the form of a 'reaper' so to speak.

That's the main story behind FF7, Jenova is essentially a malignant cancer that came from a far away place, unknown amongst the stars. She's an alien, but the psychotics in Midgar (hojo) fucked up and imbued a bunch of people with her cells. Thusly plaguing the entire planet with Jenova Cells, granting her immortality essentially. Until FF7AC when the Holy Rain purifies the world by Aerith's influence.

Sephiroth was trying to control the world. Research the story line and watch AC. He mentions taking the planet by force for his mother and riding it through the cosmos as a vessel to find another planet to dominate. Also, he is evil. He isn't acting out of insanity, he's acting out of revenge for what SHINRA made him into and for what the world did to his mother. He thinks she is the rightful owner of the planet, even though she is a shapeless alien and not actually a female human.

11 and 1 do count. They're Final Fantasy as well. And so will 14 when it comes out. Just because it's an MMO doesn't mean it's void of label.
Even against the wills of fans, X-2 counted too, and Dirge of Cerberus...
The only one that doesn't really count is that 'Spirits Within' movie, which we all know was just a tack on of the Final Fantasy label to help convince people to buy it.
Just my two cents... I played FFXI a lot, sooo...

@TheJakeman2005 I agree. FF7 had the most non understandable story I have ever played for a FF game. Though, for its time, it transcended all other RPGs before it. Which is one of the reasons it is considered to be one of the best games of all time.

actually thats not quite true, in square-enix'es FF7 book, they state that sephie had control of jenova the whole time he was in the northern crater , he was the main villian through and through, cloud was his puppet and jenova was his strings

He was a great villain, in Final Fantasy VII. Then everyone put him on a pedestal, and he's become somewhat of an anti-hero, as some consider Jenova having the relentless hold on all of his moves.

actually ur wrong on that. even if u take away jenova sephiroth is still evil. becuase when he was in the shinra mansion he read all the classified documents on how he was created petty much and it drove him insane to the point were he believed he was a monster and thats why he went evil. he only needed Jenovas power along with the black materia so he could accomplish what he wanted to do and that was to pretty much destroy the world

Insane. hell yes. Evil. Most certainly not. While he was driven mad by the truth he was never really evil. Ive hurt people because they pissed me off, but Im not evil. Sephiroth is the same in logical senses. Humanity pissed him off so he wants to end them. He was lied to his entire life. I find his approach wrong yes, but I still can't see him as evil. Evil is used way too loosely anymore.
