Great videos man. I've been fascinated by the japanese culture for years and plan to visit there one day. From all the stories and videos you posted it makes me want to go there more now lol. Question? I'm working at a great job repairing computers remotely at home and I'm able to work any where as long as I got a great internet connection (even overseas.) The thing is that I want to keep this job, so my question is would it be harder for me to migrate there if I like japan when I visit?
If it is your business and it's net worth is $100,000+ there is a visa that will allow you to work in japan. As far as any other visa; work visa requires a sponsoring company and the requirments of the visa are either atleast a bachelors degree or 3+ years of professional experience in the field your getting a job as, spousal visa's are available if you marry a native japanese citizen, work holiday visa's are allowed for a certain group of countries (not US unfortunately)
Your videos on here continue to be a godsend, for the inquisitive and curious, but above all for those of us who are, or are going to be, in the land of the (still) rising sun. I hope to get there in the near future, but have to take care of selling my house and family business first. I wonder how hot or cold the foreign teacher market is after the earthquake though, I haven't been able to get a clear picture thus far.
Hey man, I have been looking to come over to Japan for a while now and am trying full throttle to get myself to a point where I can compete with a lot more "scholarly" people than myself. I was looking through videos about alternatives to the JET program because there's always a chance I won't make the cut. And I stumbled onto your video. Gotta say my heart goes out to you and it just fuels me even more so that even if I get rejected, I can keep trying.
it's good to hear people with difficulties become successful. seems like God was with you all that time. i wanna go to Japan so bad. i'm really starting to despise what the culture in america has become
I guess i have 2 dreams and 1 of them is to live in japan. I have a lousy job and a practically boring, routine-driven-life that goes nowhere.
I am at a point where i am feeling more anxious because the older i get the more i deny myself the pleasure of drawing, or writing or doing anything i used to do when i was a teenager. I really want to bail out of this country and try japan. I look at Nelson Mandela. Dude spent 25 years in prison and later became president.
Really nice vid. Thanks for taking the time to make it. I'm in a similar-ish situation. I worked for Nova in 2004-2005 on a working holiday visa. I currently in the UK trying to get another job in Japan but it seems impossible as most schools have stopped recruiting from overseas. I recently applied to a company called Interac. It's been a couple of weeks and I haven't heard anything from them so now I'm looking at other schools like Aeon

It seems that you have had your fair share of trails and tribulations in Japan. Is Japan going to be your new home or do you plan to come back to the united states?
@gigasbleach99 i always never say never, but for now i have no intentions of ever leaving. the hardest trials are far behind me now and life has only gotten better and better since then.
I wonder if I will be able to tell such a story in two years too. But I am actually really going to Japan for a year (starting this August). You really seem lucky, but luck is a talent too, you know :P

That was some good foresight jumping the NOVA boat before it sunk. I probably apply for 2 jobs a day and have yet to find one. Frustrating to say the least.
thanks for the video upload, ur story is truly inspirational!! ur story drives me even more to live and work out there in japan, i have a question, wats the song that u used in the background....Keep up the videos!!
That was a great video. I started watching your vids yesterday when Victor recommended you. I look forward to watching more. I really identify w/ how you felt after college. The difference is that you took a leap of faith and it seems to be working out for you.
zehi is a type of way of saying feel free to...blah blah. tokyo e kita toki wa zehi watashi no ie ni yotte kudasai - when you visit tokyo feel free to visit our house.
well i havent lived here long enough to apply. depending on your visa you have to wait a few years to apply. when i do it i will make a youtube video on it.

haha well dont get too jealous alot of the games get released with Kanji I cant even read. Like the new Yakuza game...I want it so bad but the kanji it uses is so rare I cant read most of the dialogue.
but like when final fantasy 7 was released here in the us . id heard rumors that number 9 was already being played in japan. i was so mad it was like we were 2 steps behind them. and the playstation 3 was here in the us , japan was alreay working on the playstation 5 or some thing like that lol. so sorry my garden is still green with envy!!! lol peace 8-)
yeah when chrono trigger was rereleased for nintendo DS I was pretty stoked to be in japan since it came out way early. Also it was cool to get my hands on PS3 cheaper and ealier. I guess thats just another reason I am still here lol.
I used to teach at the school you're at. I find your vids pretty interesting.
I don't agree with your comments that Nova's interview was difficult... they took anyone white / black with a pulse. It was always the "fall back" if you ever lost your job. Sucks that the safety net's not there anymore.
if not difficult it was nonetheless extremely drawn out. It has been the only 2 hour interview I have ever had in my life. So you use to work at KIS as well? What campus?
Yeah but actual interviews to be a teacher back home are a lot worse. You have to submit video of your lessons sometimes, portfolios of your work, etc. The really good schools (that pay really well) in Japan also require the same thing. The 2 hours at Nova is a formality, not for judging quality/ability
Yep - Actually some of my students are now yours (I believe). I taught K2.
really? well I know the interview process varies state to state. In FL I worked as an art teacher and after only being asked to see my portfolio and being asked my teaching philosophy I was hired on the spot. Although later when the state of FL decided to eliminate funding for the arts I found myself interviewing for nova.
You taught my K3s? Wow this ocean of porn we call the internet makes the world so small!
very good story Scott! You had to go through ALOT to get to where you are. Out of 20 teachers, only you and another teacher were able to stay? Thats so lucky. Great vid keep them coming
yeah although I have been loving my life in japan it has not always been a easy ride. immigration is a tough process too, and every year I have to renew my visa and status or risk being thrown out of the country since they are very strict.
I sympathize with you man because I know how excited you must have gotten to come out here since I pretty much went through the same thing. Then to watch Nova mess things up for people in such a ridiculious way was rough. ALot of people came out here and found themselves already poor and homeless in japan so you definitely made the right decision. I hope you find future employment and are still able to follow your dreams to come out here.
Well my dad passed away when I would of been in Japan. So it ended up being very fortuitous. I now work in teaching here in the UK and who knows what I may do in the future. We'll see. Thanks for your reply.

yeah but I was actually sick as a dog at the time of making this film, and I was really feeling motion sick in the car (something I never had in the states). I must admit life is alot more cushy here, but we still need to hang out soon since I am finally on well street again...and of course so I can get my 3000yen 笑!
I'll be in Tokyo this weekend, got end of school year party next weekend.
Also, isn't it just a trifle unusual that you aren't sick all year, then you get that big TV and PS3 and suddenly you are unable to leave the house. Don't worry, I had the same sickness.
haha I swear I really did get sick! Although there was some ひうきこもり action on the first weekend I got it! I finally beat saints row 2 though so prehaps my plague will lift.
yeah I did face a really tough time for a while where I wasnt sure I would be able to stay in japan and I had only been there a few months. I did get super lucky making it through that rough spot and am still stoked to be here today.
great video once again. sounds like your a very lucky dude. you did a good job of the editing too. the music at the beginning made it seem...."real" in a way. dont know what other word to use. it really set the mood for the rest of the video. Great video, great soundtrack, great information.
yeah I was actually born in philly and you know its funny you say that because that is the last place I went too before leaving america 2 years ago. small world.

yeah I did face a really tough time for a while where I wasnt sure I would be able to stay in japan and I had only been there a few months. I did get super lucky making it through that rough spot and am still stoked to be here today.

great video once again. sounds like your a very lucky dude. you did a good job of the editing too. the music at the beginning made it seem...."real" in a way. dont know what other word to use. it really set the mood for the rest of the video. Great video, great soundtrack, great information.
keep up the good work!
looking forward to your next Vlog too

You're videos are awsome and very informative! I think it's awsome that you are doing this for people who are interested in Japan!
P.S. So you're from Philly? That's where I'm going to be going for my flight before I start my year in Japan, cuz I live like 45 min away
