autism is FAKE. people made billions of dollars telling stupid people their kid is autistic. you give attention and reward your kid for ignoring you, and they do it more. GEE WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT.
God. Watching Mason do this reminds me so much of my son.
I would also take what other well-meaning aspie parents say with a pinch of salt. Every case of aspergers/autism is unique. What may be effective for their child might not neccessarily be effective for yours.
I have noticed that you believe that your son is having meltdowns, to quote you "out of no where" this is not true. You just are not aware of what is upsetting him. You need to learn him, I can tell you from watching his videos that he is very sound sensitive. Your constant talking and trying to comfort him is actually doing the opposite. Im assuming you put these videos up for help. I would like to help you! My daughter was severe like your son, she would scratch her face, pull her hair and
(continue from post that started "I have noticed") bash her head. She would wake up screaming in the middle of the night. She did not start speaking until she was 3 and did not speak in sentences until she was 4. She is now learning French as we moved to France. Its hard for her. Like your son she has a lot of sensory issues. Please watch my daughters videos, Id like to try and help you and your son find the right plan to help ease both of your frustration. You are not a bad Mom!
I still stim and its how I calm myself, you are actually making more noise than he is btw and obviously stressing him out more. As an autistic person I can tell you that just because someone is smiling does not mean they are happy. My 9 year old with Asperger's makes exploding sounds when he is "playing". My 6 year old with classic autism makes these same noises. She runs up and down the hallway every night, its how she unwinds from her day.
Please dont take this in a bad way, Im trying to help you and I have Asperger's so I am honest. Im not going to sugar coat things for you. It is good to distract them sometimes but you are doing it the wrong way, you actually sound very annoying, and you think he sounds annoying? You say that sometimes a mom can only take so much. You need in home therapy for him not drugs. My daughter went from being non verbal and severe to moderate/high functioning. Please contact your local Regional center.
When I said my daughter makes the same noises I meant the same noises your son is making. I call them "autism noises"....they all sound pretty much the same. I hope you dont get mad, Im a bit nervous but I want to help you and your son. If you want to see the progress my daughter has made with TEACCH therapy you can look at her videos.
you need to stop filming him and get him an ABA therapist. ur supposed to DISCOURAGE spinning.. or any kind of "stimming" and redirect him. you need to look in to help.. this .. is NOT helping him. Hes not doing this to be happy.. hes doing it because hes frustrated.seriously. get help.
@TheAnthonie1226 ABA is pure evil! I have High functioning autism/aspergers and I stim because it helps me calm down it is therapeutic ABA is like training us like dogs it does not change our behavior DIR floortime does!!!
@lkjhb1 the TEACCH method is like floortime. They basically just played with my daughter and used the things she liked...like pink and princesses. She was very severe right before diagnosis. No pointing, waving, speaking, eyecontact, she would take your hand and lead you to what she wanted. She did not respond to us. After only a few weeks she could say everyone in the families names. It was awesome to hear her say Mommy :).
Sorry I dont understand you very short message, I put several messages on your video. Your son is very young, if you are talking about the TEACCH method or in home therapy....how long did you try? Like I said he is very young sometimes it takes a year or so to see improvement. If you son has a mental condition he needs medication but if he has autism he does not need to be medicated unless you believe that autism is a mental illness.
Sorry about the typos....the you's are supposed to be your. Im suffering from severe anemia right now so Its hard to concentrate. It may be related to my auto immune disease. Im just telling you that I am autistic, I have three autistic children out of my five and my oldest that passed away in august from drug addiction (early onset bi polar disorder and the drug abuse started when he was 13) I hope you check my page and see my daughters video maybe it will give you hope.
@TheAnthonie1226 do you have an autistic child or are you autistic? Discouraging stimming is like discouraging breathing. Yes you need to help show then there are other things in life but trying to stop stimming all together will make a child violent or cause them to burrow deeper into themselves. I need to stim and so do my kids, no not all the time but we NEED to do it. ABA is being phased out for therapy methods that do work like TEACCH and floortime.
I love the title "Stimming Bender"! I teach preK kids with autism and sometimes they just have to stim. We have a little boy who likes to be "one with the rug" like your son. It is their world and sometimes they just have to stay in it. My son has Asperger's too and there is no way I can interupt him watching a YouTube Legos video.
@waarce my daughter does a lot of verbal stimming and she loves to sing. She does not flap as much as she used to but she does when she is very stressed. Spinning is her big thing...I always wonder how she does not get dizzy. Its Vestibular, they need to spin to ground themselves. Im more like my son, I will puke if I spin LOL. The therapist used to spin my daughter in her swing and the faster the better!
Leave your physician/pediatritian if he/she doesn´t know how to treat aspergers or autism & demand your money back! Docs didn´t do their homework! The information is already out there since years! Google & youtube "Dr. KLINGHARDT - HPU - Lyme - Heavy Metal Detox - Nitrostress - Traumas and traumas passed on - Today´s high electric exposure & its affects on microparasites & their microtoxine production in your body"! Visit a KLINGHARDT-protocoll-trained doctor!
I dont mind him stiming and I know it makes him happy and the spinning and rubbing his head is his way of relaxing him self. I do join in with him (its my only way of going into his world and coneccting with him) but sometimes it gets to the point that he will do it for hours and thats when I try and engage him in other activities, because for my sanity there is only so much a mom can take of hours of high pitched screams and his loud stiming sounds and running around the house like a wild man.
milk! i heard that makes some autistic kids do strange things! my sister has 2 autistic kids and they run around n cicles when they have anything dairy
my boy does this sometimes. we get up and do it with him and say yay dancing! so now hes sometimes starts to do it when we say yay lets dance. we try to fit in with him and slowly try to stop doing the things by us not doing them needless to say you have a beautiful little man there
I don not mean to disagree with anyone or upset anyone but I see this stimming as happy behavior. My 5 yr old son is ASD and does the same. Remember, we don't always have to make our kids fit into our world. This is him showing you into his world.
I get like that too when I stim, Im autistic but stimmed less when older, mostly bit myself as stimming when stressed, and pace and wring hands rest of time. stimming is really harmless behavior and to non autistics or people without SPD it seems like it puts us in our own worlds but really is helps us understand this one
Ya, I've tried clapping my hand, whistles, bells, trying to make him sit to read a story to calm him, putting in his favorite video etc... it works sometimes, but once he gets going its hard to stop him.

My son, at almost 6, he does spins in circles, flaps his hands and does other odd movements. Additionally, he will do verbal stimmings.
