You forgot to mention the center speaker is also smaller..And yes there is a noticeable difference between the 2 subs the Z-5500 is louder & deeper..& also the center speaker on the Z-5500 is much louder & clearer..As you can see you cant compare & there werent made to compare..Way i see it looks is also important the Z-5500 you have to admit give you that better look effect & the rest is just bigger..Over all Logitech just made the Z-906 to be affordable not to out perform the Z-5500..
And the z-680 satellites look crazy outdated to me, so when my 5500s died- I just hooked their satellites up to my z-680 and it's like I still have a set of 5500s. The 906s don't come anywhere close to comparing to either system...Logitech cheap-d out big time. The 906 speakers don't have that crystal clear thick digital like sound to me...and when the volume goes past a certain level it's automatically adjusted, which is lame. IMO everyone should avoid the 906s and get a pair of z680s.
@Cap420 To each his own i guess...Tell me what type of sound card do you have hooked to your sound system...I use the creative lab fatality 1 pro game series which has 64 mg of X Ram and i hook it to my pod by opticial cable..
@DWcriticism My sound card is ridiculously outdated..LOL I have an original sound blaster audigy platinum...using a coax cable to connect the speakers to digital out out my sound card. The z-680s and 5500s (when I had em) both sounded incredible with my set up...but not the 906s! i've even tried the 906s on an ipod and am less then thrilled with the sound quality. Hopefully logitech actually upgrades the next set of speakers they come out with & not try 2 deceive their customers.
@Cap420 I cant believe it i had the very same card..Man thats not a bad card at all thats also made by creative right..I remember i had to change virus protection because my nortons didnt get along with my sound card i wouldnt have figured it out but i recieved a e mail from creative...Tell me have have you ever heard of placing a vibration damper under your sub to cut back on the vibration..What i heard many system just stop working and logitech thinks itd due to over volume vibration
@DWcriticism Yeah i've had this card literally since 1998-199...its never failed me and always gave me great performance so I never felt the need to upgrade. Do you think using an optical cable instead of a coax would improve the 906 sound at all? I'd need another sound card for that though :( Never heard of using the vibration damper...interesting I might have to look into it thanks
@Cap420 Yes i find using a optical out is the best for quality if your sound card supports optical..It seens on high volume everything is so crystle clear.I was told once & it makes sense your speaker system is only as good as the sound card & hook up you use.My friend also has the Z-5500 & he only uses onboard sound & its terrible.Yes i recommend a vibration damper..look under vibration isolation it really cuts back unwanted noise & vibration & most important it prolongs the life of your systen
@Cap420 What i done i made my own vibration Damper it looks like a footstool on top i have a square piece of rug and underneath i have two types of foam and and i put on 2 inch legs with rubber caps & does it work big time..With out it i place a glass of water 3 inches from the sub & i hit the bass & the water just bounces and on the damper the water hardly moves so it works. And there is a noticeable difference in quality..if your interested i could show you mine to give you ideas
i see u also have the z5500. So tell me is it worth it to buy z906 rather than z5500? i dont know which one to buy. z5500 have a 10'' sub but the z906 have a 8'' sub. which one you prefer better? thanks
@pure3lite1 You must buy an optical cabel and an adapter for Mini Optical. The Macs support mini optical jack(In the headphone jack). (Read the manual of your iMac and look for inputs)
Best set up is the z-680 sub and pod with the 5500 satellites...which is what I use. The 680 sub is even more powerful than the 5500 sub. With every new speaker release, Logitech downgrades everything. The 906 isn't nearly as powerful as the 5500, or even the z680..plus the satellites look sort of ancient IMO. Logitech is really going downhill. I've seen the 5500s being sold on sites like ebay for nearly a grand, they are still in huge demand. The 906s are cheap..and cheap to manufacture & ship.
@Cap420 Man how can you make that statement I had a pair of the Z-680's and i still have the pamphlet & the 680 5500 & the 906 have the very same subwoofer only difference is the 906 woofer box is smaller but i do have to agree logitech has taken a big step back when they made the Z-906
@DWcriticism The z-680 and the z-5500 have the same amount of watts (505), while the "upgraded" 906-s only have 500 watts. IMO the z-680 sub is the best sub Logitech has ever come out with...it's incredibly powerful and durable. The 5500s are an overall better sounding system, but the z-680 packs the most power. You can have the z-680 sub level turned less than half way up, while to get that same amount of bass on the 5500 you have to set it at the max level.
@666nargarothfreak666 hahahah :) yes the z 5500 is much better it has more features like boost and plus mode and a massive 10 inch 188 watt sub and its crystal clear :) my z906 recently broke down from overheating problems :)
and so far i am very happy with it. But the guy in the store where i bought my system who said that the Z 5500 Got many problems with the display. But my system is still good. and i put my speakers never to the limit. because i know that is not good for your system. not for an sound sytems. Its like a car if you go faster than the top Limit of your car. Than you can overhead your engine. it i practicly the same :)
@34skyline What a understatement look around its so easy to buy the Z-5500 new. i had a choice & on boxing day 2012 i bought the Z-5500 because i go with quality.I find the Z906 has tomuch plastic for my liking.look at both pods who wouldnt want a nice led blue digital read out the main front speaker & the subwoofer is bigger on the Z-5500. Plus myself i like all the aluminum thats on the 5500 pose to all plastic on the 906 the specs are the same on both so its pretty obvious the Z5500 is better
@DWcriticism The Z-5500 was not aluminum just looks like it and i'm quite sure that the Z-5500 is plastic also, The only aluminum that the Z-5500 had is on the stand for the console, On amazon and other online stores the Z-5500 is going for $971-$1700, Unless you can find them used on ebay for less but that's crazy spending that much on the Z-5500 that was once was $399, For basically the same spec's and at the same time save money the Z906 sounds more logical.
@34skyline Not at all i was at a store and i checked out both units..also both subwoofers were on vibration dampers so you can get the true sound pose to dealing with vibration & there was a noticeable difference to bad but the Z-5500 was the crowds choice..When you get them side by side you can really see the size difference & i found that to be a turn off..
@MADdrummer971 The z5500 is a good model but way to faulty. I've had 3 sets of the z5500s all which broke and had to be replaced by logitech. I would definitely suggest you get these over the z5500s. z906s are more reliable and the pod is better. Plus z5500 sub was overbearing and not tight at all
Wow, can't believe they put all the inputs from the control unit to the sub :( They could've at least provided both options. Also I hate it how the power cable is now fixed to the sub - if that gets damaged you can't easily replace it. And you can't switch it off from standby either
@TheGiannispanatha13 Proof? Ain't trying to start a debate or anything. I'm in the market and I have the tough choice Z-5500 Vs. Z906, I've been hearing a lot that the Z906 packs the same punch in bass even though it's got a smaller sub and also that "apparently" the overall sound quality is better.
Really wish I could just get a straight up answer on which one is better I'm sick of looking. Might just close my eyes and pick at random lol.
So. I'm super confused. I've got my Mac Pro. It has Optical Audio on it. So, this system can be used by just the optical audio on the Mac Pro? I know you've got a Mac Pro, have you done it this way? Any help would be great.
@chargerfun34 Yep i use a optical cable to hook up the Z906 to my Mac Pro, Radio Shack, best buy or any other places carries a optical cable and then plug it into the subwoofer optical input
They are awesome...Ive got z5500 for my pc and i have z906 for my hd 3d tv... You dont need any home theater etc etc ... Just take this awesome speaker system...Logitech is the best...
@34skyline The z 5500 subwoofer has 188 watts and the z906 165 watss, so z5500 has more power than z906, But, the z906 has new technologie thats make the sound more full then the old, both are greats sets, i have the z5500 and a gave garden party's whith it and the sounds is still good at 100%
@olivierhacking well I don't use the 3.5 audios jacks (green, black and yellow) because the Mac Pro does not have a sound card, I use a optical cable for my sound
@34skyline Exaclty Z906 sounds better but Z5500 is louder the z5500 has a Sub (188watts RMS power) Left/Right: 62 watts RMS Center: 69 watts RMS Rear Left & Right: 62 watts and the z906 has a 165watts RMS Subwoofer and all their Satellite Speakers has 67 watts RMS...
I connected z906 to my ps3 via optical. changed the setting to optical at the ps3, ticked the first 2 option and still no sound? Am I missing anything?
@34skyline do not worry, if the difference between the two systems is not so much, maybe buy the Logitech z906, since I already have the Logitech Z2300, I will be more comfortable placing the two subs because they are both 8 "! ! one last thing! the difference in power between the Logitech Z5500 subwoofer (188w) and the Logitech z906 (165W) feels?
@34skyline I wanted to know if it was possible to have a video comparing the two systems, Logitech z-5500 and z906! you think that there are differences between the two! both power and sound quality!
not hatin man but isnt it a bit dumb using a 5.1 system if your going to have the back speakers in front of you lol? How are they compared to the z-5500?
@rodrigosendas I would like to have two of the speakers behind me but having wires all over the place will be annoying, The Z906 hits harder then the Z-5500 and I was surprised at that with a smaller subwoofer the plus side on the Z906 it takes less room, The 3D Stereo is new on the Z906, Z-5500 does not have this feature \, if your in the market for 5.1 speakers I will definitely buy the Z906 but if you can find a good deal on a set of Z-5500 go for it they still awesome speakers
So you got now like a 10.2 surround sound system?? x)

@olivierhacking well I don't use the 3.5 audios jacks (green, black and yellow) because the Mac Pro does not have a sound card, I use a optical cable for my sound

I've got the Z2200s (?), and they are pretty good. Would love to upgrade to this, not sure I have the space though D:

@34skyline do not worry, if the difference between the two systems is not so much, maybe buy the Logitech z906, since I already have the Logitech Z2300, I will be more comfortable placing the two subs because they are both 8 "! ! one last thing! the difference in power between the Logitech Z5500 subwoofer (188w) and the Logitech z906 (165W) feels?

@TheAlessio4ever playing BC2 I can feel every shot when I fire my sniper rifle, The Bass is very clean and it hit's hard

@34skyline I wanted to know if it was possible to have a video comparing the two systems, Logitech z-5500 and z906! you think that there are differences between the two! both power and sound quality!
TheAlessio4ever 9 months ago
hello, you can do a video comparison between the Logitech z-5500 and the z906?
thanks

Hook me up with your old speakers. Mine went out about a month ago and it sucks hearing my games through laptop speakers. Hook your boy up.

not hatin man but isnt it a bit dumb using a 5.1 system if your going to have the back speakers in front of you lol? How are they compared to the z-5500?
rodrigosendas 9 months ago
@rodrigosendas I would like to have two of the speakers behind me but having wires all over the place will be annoying, The Z906 hits harder then the Z-5500 and I was surprised at that with a smaller subwoofer the plus side on the Z906 it takes less room, The 3D Stereo is new on the Z906, Z-5500 does not have this feature \, if your in the market for 5.1 speakers I will definitely buy the Z906 but if you can find a good deal on a set of Z-5500 go for it they still awesome speakers
