That plow looks like it might have a "rolling coulter" , a rolling blade that precut the soil, as mentioned in Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. Her Pa got a new one of these and said it was a big improvement on the old implement.

This is hard work even if the horses are doing the pulling. Just keeping the plow in the ground takes some strength and output. Ask the plowman.
